Summary
Some of the 'fanon' type biographies I've created for canon characters and original characters in the Desperate Hours AU, to use as 'cheat sheets' for myself, to help me remember: how I picture them in my mind's eye; how I've interpreted/changed Tolkien canon as it relates to them; how they relate to (and refer to) other characters; and various other details. Also, essays/discussions on other topics.
Includes:
1. Character Notes for Elrond
2. Character Notes for Glorfindel
3. Character Notes for Thranduil
4. An essay on magic in the DH AU generally
5. Character Notes for Celebrian
6. A character bio for my original character, Ecthelion 'Theli' Diorchil, the grandson of Elurin Diorchil
7. Character bios of Theli's parents and siblings in the West
8. Character notes for Ereinion Gil-galad
9. Character notes re: Elrond’s sons Elrohir, Elladan, and Belemir (OC)
10. A list of OCs in the story “Out of Time” (including OCs borrowed from African Daisy and Kaylee)Now updated with:
11. Lirulin (OC) and Maedhros character notes
12. Maedhros' Multiple Reasons for the Later Kinslayings
13. The Fate of Feanor and his Sons after their Deaths
14. On MaglorSeries

War is never quiet. Not like this. Tonight, there is a hush in which the grass whispers, birds sing undisturbed and brooks murmur gaily, wending their way between the trees, heeding no danger, anticipating no pain. This apparently, is peace. I find it unsettling.
Elrond has never known anything but conflict. As peace settles over the land he must reckon with the unknowns it brings and his place within the future, all while facing the biggest decision of his life.

In Elrond’s opinion, burying himself in work is an excellent distraction from missing Elros. Ereinion begs to differ.
This story can stand on its own, you do not need to have read any of the other stories in this series(es). None of the AU elements of my series as a whole preclude this story from working more or less within the general framework of canon. Please note that this story takes place in the version of this Desperate Hours AU wherein some of the stories have corporal punishment elements. If you would like the version of this story (and the version of this series) with no corporal punishment elements, that story is available here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/73526006

Ereinion Gil-galad discovers a miracle. Elros (not yet Tar-Minyatur) finds his way.
--
"You'll have no luck with that one," one of the other healers stopped a moment to advise them both. "He hasn't moved since the men brought him in; likely, his spirit is unmoored."
"Try anyhow?" Ereinion implored Elrond, softly, and he blessed his friend when Elrond did not question these orders, as if he thought it entirely worth his time and power to dote upon this old, near-dead thrall.

"The land has been destroyed. Very soon, it will sink into the sea. I take no pleasure in that."
"And yet in Valinor you sat for centuries, happy to let others destroy the land themselves." Morgoth smirked at him. "It brings me joy to see how far you have fallen, O Lord of the Breath of Arda."

Summary
It is late in the First Age, and the War of Wrath is raging. In the dungeons of Angband, four children are born. They are raised by Morgoth and Sauron to be terrifying forces of evil, raised to serve him wholly and become lords and ladies of his realm when he wins the War. But Morgoth finds that not all of them bend to his will, finding them to be far more powerful and strong-willed than he expects.
The children grow in a place of darkness and despair, finding joy and love despite the horror, and they become a family against the odds, each of them struggling with which parts of themselves they should be true to.Characters/tags will be updated.

Aragorn, having finished with bandaging Faramir’s ‘light’ stab wound, stood and laid his hand on Faramir’s bare chest. Meeting Faramir’s gray-blue eyes with his own, he reminded him, “Just remember, when you venture into danger . . .”
“That I carry other hearts with me, as well as my own.” Faramir finished, laying his own hand on top of Aragorn’s. “I will do my best to remember, my brother and friend.”
