On the day before moving into university halls (leaving it a bit late), the Fellowship, plus some others, are added to a group chat to get to know the people they will be living with for the next year. What could possibly go wrong with all these characters living under the same roof?
Expect lots of teasing and (mostly friendly) tormenting, a concerning number of things getting broken, and way less sleep than is at all healthy.
In case it isn't already abundantly obvious, I did not create these characters, nor do I own them. I'm also definitely not the first to write in this AU either; this was inspired by a lot of brilliant and funny works which I loved reading.

Here is something Everettian quantum mechanics is very clear on, no matter what the kids on TikTok tell you: crossing from one universe to another would be very bad for both of them. The universe is kind of supposed to be a closed-off thing, and when it turns into an open thing, it has a tendency to spill its organs into the nothingness between worlds. We wouldn't know if this happened until it was too late. Elves, who are much more sensitive to changes in the fabric of the universe, can tell. What they don't know is who caused it, how bad the damage is, or if Damien, the accidental tenth walker, is secretly the most powerful evil being they've encountered yet. (Spoiler: he's not.)
This is my attempt to semi-scientifically explain how, within the constraints of Tolkien's soft magic system, a tenth walker from our world might cross over. I'm being as book-compliant as possible. Expect a lot of messed up effects of magic, realistic representation of the tenth walker experience (0/5 do not recommend), and the extreme effects of the quote "elves are terrific; they beget terror" on my psyche and writing. I have 11 chapters backlogged and all of them planned so you can expect this fic to be finished!

Summary
Bilbo Baggins has been running away ever since… well, let’s just say that certain events from his past have left him heartbroken and fleeing to live abroad. That is, until he gets a phone call from an old friend that changes everything. Facing not only the challenge of taking care of his teenage nephew but also coming home to where his whole life fell apart, Bilbo is not sure if he’s up to the task. To top it all off, he keeps crossing paths with the infuriatingly handsome, tall berk that seems to be just as concerned about Frodo as everyone else in the small town.
Tired of running and trying his best to do the right thing, Bilbo finds that standing still is not as easy as one might expect. After all, once you open your heart to others, you risk getting it broken all over again.
