Once upon a time there was a prophet who was crowned the king of all prophets. This was because he was such a good prophet and could only tell the truth. Nobody else could see somebody’s inner character like him, and nobody’s prophetic vision was even on the same level that he was on.
People from across the seas would come and sit at his stool in his grand palace that was built for him by the people after he warned them of a destructive flood that came a hundred years before. He was this old and older because he knew how to live forever.
His friends aged immortality with him as well, and they constantly came to his foot and kneeled. His head was always high because of his crown and veil. He never had to actually look at the person he was giving prophecy to because his powers worked so well he could always see into the future and describe it.
He was great. He had to be great. So why does everything feel like lying and like it's falling apart?

Here is something Everettian quantum mechanics is very clear on, no matter what the kids on TikTok tell you: crossing from one universe to another would be very bad for both of them. The universe is kind of supposed to be a closed-off thing, and when it turns into an open thing, it has a tendency to spill its organs into the nothingness between worlds. We wouldn't know if this happened until it was too late. Elves, who are much more sensitive to changes in the fabric of the universe, can tell. What they don't know is who caused it, how bad the damage is, or if Damien, the accidental tenth walker, is secretly the most powerful evil being they've encountered yet. (Spoiler: he's not.)
This is my attempt to semi-scientifically explain how, within the constraints of Tolkien's soft magic system, a tenth walker from our world might cross over. I'm being as book-compliant as possible. Expect a lot of messed up effects of magic, realistic representation of the tenth walker experience (0/5 do not recommend), and the extreme effects of the quote "elves are terrific; they beget terror" on my psyche and writing. I have 11 chapters backlogged and all of them planned so you can expect this fic to be finished!
