Chapter Text
After that academic year, the announcement of Prince Baekhyun’s official presentation was released. Contrary to their worries, the people still celebrated the news and condemned the Counselor’s mistake. Many empathized with Baekhyun for the expectations placed on him and the ridiculous omega training he went through only to become an alpha. Still, the damage on Baekhyun and Jongdae’s precious friendship couldn’t be undone because of this truth.
Jongdae packed his luggage for a summer with his mother, needing the fresh air after everything. He glanced at the TV and saw Baekhyun’s pretty face, clearly faking his charming smile for the public. Jongdae didn’t want to believe he missed him, so he turned the TV off and made sure that nothing was left plugged before leaving his apartment.
Baekhyun was eating on the breakfast bar while chatting with a butler, free to be whoever he was and dress in any way he wanted because he was an alpha. Although still proper and poised because the omega training stuck with him, Baekhyun was simply happy to have no more secrets to the world. He glanced at the TV on the side, seeing Jongdae at the airport with reporters around him.
According to the report, the young Lord was off to see his mother for the summer. This was used to connect the news about Jongdae’s father winning an award in the United Nations for his diplomatic work. Baekhyun dropped his fork and reached to get it on the floor, feeling heavy in his chest when he stood. The butler wondered if he was alright, sensing the young Prince was hurting. Baekhyun excused himself and left his food, deep in his thoughts and sadness because Jongdae didn’t even say goodbye.
Baekhyun celebrated his 18th birthday in a room full of mostly strangers, forcing himself to smile and be happy about getting older when he only wanted to be with Jongdae on this day. Minseok approached his brother and bumped him lightly, silently asking if he was alright. After the fallout, Minseok did everything he could to be forgiven by Baekhyun, fighting for his wants and his freedom before their parents. He took care of Baekhyun’s stay in the academy and surrounded him with good alphas all while assisting Jongdae quietly and privately. He felt responsible for breaking their friendship, so he wanted to make things right slowly. Thankfully, Baekhyun couldn’t resist Minseok for too long.
“I’d greet you happy birthday, but that would be insensitive of me.” Minseok raised his champagne glass and Baekhyun toasted to that. “Still, happy birthday, brother.”
“Thanks, Min. For once, I’m happy to hear that tonight.” Baekhyun lowered his head with a smile. “Did Chanyeol and Sehun leave?” He looked over his shoulder, seeing the party was still in full swing. Minseok nodded, adding that Chanyeol was too drunk to drive. “I’ll bring his car to his place tomorrow.”
“I was thinking we’d go for a drive with it and return it with an empty tank, but okay, you’re the kind one between us now.” Minseok smirked, tempting Baekhyun with his idea.
“I’ll only bore you on the road. Take Sehun instead.” Baekhyun declined the proposal gently.
“Hey Baek,” The birthday boy saw a small gift on Minseok’s hand, similar to a ring box.
“Are you going to marry me?” Baekhyun teased, opening it until his smile slowly disappeared. The Royal Family Crest badge shone under the lanterns of the veranda of the grand ballroom, winking at the owner…if he would accept. “What’s this for?”
“Dad talked to me the other day.” Minseok cleared his throat, bearing his anxiety to his brother. “I don’t have much time to enjoy myself. He asked me to ascend to the throne when I’m 25. After my graduation, I’ll be studying nonstop until it’s time. Take this as a gift, my trust to you, an apology if you’d consider, and my love for you, Baekhyun. You don’t have to decide now, but I hope you'll accept this proposal to be my Advisor.”
“Do you have to be so formal about it?” Baekhyun cut the stiffness of the situation with his casual sass, forcing Minseok to admit that he was practicing his kingly speech. “I’ll always stand with you, Minseok.” He hugged his brother, congratulating him for being the next King of their nation. “I’m sure Junmyeon will be proud of you wherever he is.” He added as Minseok hugged him tighter. “And super jealous of me right now for being the Royal Advisor to the King.” Baekhyun yelped when Minseok smacked his butt for that remark.
“That’s not actually your gift, that’s more of my gift to myself.” Minseok confessed with a mocking laugh. “This is yours…if you’ll take it.” He brought out an envelope and handed it to Baekhyun.
“Why are you presenting gifts like some con artist or magician? If you’ll take it, if you’ll accept,” Baekhyun mocked as he opened the envelope, stunned yet again when he saw a ticket and flight schedule to where Jongdae was.
“For an omega, he has a lot of pride. It’s very impressive actually. I was worried no one would ever reach your ridiculously high standards but Jongdae ticked all the boxes. And I’ve seen his long list of crushes because he asked me for help before you both entered the academy. I introduced him to some of the alphas and stuff. Dae,” Minseok sputtered a laugh. “He has an interesting hustle about his future, but I think it’s born out of his lack of attention and affection from his parents given the nature of their jobs.”
“Get to the point. My ears are bleeding already.” Baekhyun mumbled, reading the schedule over and over.
“Go to him, Baekhyun. He won’t move because he’s an omega. You’re the alpha. I’m sure you know what they’re expecting since you’ve been in their shoes. Don’t let the freedom I fought for go to waste. And don’t let Mom and Dad know you’re using the private jet.” Minseok whispered to his ear, leaving him alone to think about this. It was a crazy powerful offer only a fool would refuse, so maybe Minseok was a con artist in his own way.
Baekhyun checked his watch and pocketed the papers, hurrying back to the ballroom with heads turning as he hurried across the dancefloor while taking his necktie off. Minseok sipped his champagne from his throne, refusing to answer the questions his parents asked. He simply glanced at them with a shrug, implying that there was nothing they could do about this.
Jongdae walked back to his mother’s house after his daily stroll to calm his mind, but the thoughts were still the same. He tried to be okay in front of his mother, but she knew her son very well. Jongdae wasn’t forced to talk about it, but his mother hoped he’d smile a little more. He went inside the house, announcing his arrival while taking his shoes off.
“Jongdae, baby,” the gentleness in her voice caused Jongdae to look at her. Her embrace confused the omega but held her back regardless.
“Is something wrong, Mom?” Jongdae worried and instantly thought of his father.
“No, no. Someone just came over. He left these for you.” She stepped aside and showed a beautiful bouquet of flowers, two actually, one addressed to his mother and the bigger one addressed to him. Jongdae saw the barely readable handwriting with the royal seal, bringing tears in his eyes. He felt his mother’s arms around his chest and her chin on his shoulder while they looked at the flowers. “Is this the reason why you asked to stay with me for a while, baby?”
“Did he send someone to give these?” Jongdae swallowed thickly since his throat dried too fast.
“Baby, breathe in.” She kissed his temple, hoping he would let his walls down for a while. It was just him and her in there anyway. Jongdae shook his head, refusing to believe Baekhyun was there to leave a strong message using flowers. “Baby, it’s okay. You can cry.”
Her words were his doing.
Jongdae cried softly as he breathed in the scent he missed. He reached for the flowers and hugged them, regretting this walk more than the last. Baekhyun was there, he came and looked for him, and showed his intention to be his alpha before his mother. The mix of asters, camellias, and astilbes only made Jongdae miss him more because he was sorry too. He was so sorry for not understanding him, for leaving him when he presented just because he too believed a prediction.
Jongdae hurriedly got his phone and called Baekhyun to make him stay longer, but the call wouldn’t connect. He panicked to his mother, wanting to get to the airfield to stop Baekhyun from leaving. She hushed her baby boy, saying there was nothing they could do to stop Baekhyun right now. “He’ll wait for you, Jongdae. He promised me he will see you again when you return to the academy. It’s not too late, baby. Trust him, he will wait for you to come home.”
“Mom, I made a mistake. I’m sorry, Mom, I was unforgiving.” Jongdae hiccuped as he stared at his lockscreen that he never changed. It would always be Baekhyun.
So when classes started again, Jongdae went home with hope and confidence as he held onto Baekhyun’s wordless message. Because Baekhyun presented as an alpha, he will no longer be beside Jongdae during classes. The omega was used to being alone by now, thinking it was no different from his former schools. He did have acquaintances that said hi and hello, but he ate alone, studied alone, and went home alone.
For a week, he didn’t see Baekhyun around but saw his photos on bulletin boards because he was in the running to be the Student Council Public Relations Officer in the party of last year’s leaders. This would be Minseok, Sehun, and Chanyeol’s last year on campus too, so it was a sure win for these alphas. Jongdae casted his votes early, supporting the Alpha Heartthrob squad all the way. He made his way to class, stopping when someone almost collided with him. He looked up, seeing Baekhyun again after so long.
Baekhyun smiled kindly but kept his hands to himself because things were different now. He was an alpha and Jongdae an omega, thus their codes of conduct were different too. “Hi,” Jongdae whispered breathily, gripping the banister tightly as his senses heightened upon scenting the alpha he missed terribly.
“Hi,” Baekhyun stepped around Jongdae, changing their position so he would be the one looking up to him. “Did you get my flowers?” Jongdae nodded bashfully, stuttering his thanks. “It’s good to see you again.”
Jongdae noticed a different aura around Baekhyun, slightly intimidated yet flustered that he could be this dominant. The necktie looked good on the young Prince, too good to pull and just kiss him but they were being watched and they knew it. Jongdae wasn’t too unfamiliar with this side of Baekhyun, getting flashes of the memory of their sleepover and how he took care of him. Baekhyun could hear Jongdae’s heartbeat racing, smiling sheepishly as he lowered his head.
“L-Likewise,” Jongdae nodded then bowed slightly, truly becoming a putty omega in front of an alpha. “You look good, I mean well. You look well. I mean you always look good…because you’re the Prince. But I mean you look well, like healthy. I’m not saying you’re fat, no. You…you got more muscular. So you look well. Forget I said anything.” Jongdae lost his training of thought for a couple of seconds but Baekhyun just let him ramble, secretly loving the sound of his voice even more.
“Thanks. You too, you’re still very pretty.” Baekhyun smirked coolly even if he’s embarrassingly sweating under his blazer. If they were outside of campus, he would’ve hugged him already. Jongdae locked eyes with the alpha, blushing instantly as the entire list of crushes in his mind tore apart, leaving the first name only. The bell rang, signaling that their time was up for this meeting. “May I walk you to your room?” Baekhyun offered charmingly.
“No, no, it’s okay. You’ll be late. I can manage.” Jongdae almost slipped on the next step.
“I insist.” Baekhyun stepped closer, closing the gap between them as Jongdae’s eyes lit and his lips curled in a slight smile.
“You’ll be late, Baekhyun.” Jongdae slipped out of formalities as Baekhyun smiled genuinely this time, flustering Jongdae further.
“Your point?” Baekhyun arched his brow and Jongdae just lost. If they were still both omegas, Jongdae would’ve won, but he had no power over an alpha, especially an alpha he liked. So Jongdae walked first while Baekhyun stayed three steps behind him, protecting the omega until he reached his room. Baekhyun nodded at Jongdae before leaving, glancing behind to make sure the omega went inside. Jongdae was still by the door, watching him leave until he was out of sight.
All day, they sat in class with their heads in the clouds, thinking of each other like lovesick puppies, a real alpha-omega campus couple blooming because they finally knew where they stood in each other’s lives. The question now was, what’s next?
Baekhyun didn’t pursue Jongdae aggressively as the omega and everyone else thought. He took his time and ensured that he wasn’t pressuring Jongdae into anything, still waiting for Jongdae to give him the go signal, the okay to come closer and return to his life. But how could Jongdae do that when rumors about him kept circulating the student body?
Jongdae didn’t pay attention to most of them, but Baekhyun and Minseok were dragged into it this time. Someone said that he slept with the brothers and caused them to fight, thus making Baekhyun and Jongdae stay away from each other towards the end of the previous academic year. Minseok dumped Jongdae after knowing that he slept with Baekhyun and even asked the young Prince to abort their baby. It was very absurd, fanfiction psycho levels of imagination in fact.
So Jongdae stayed away from Baekhyun and asked Minseok to give him space until the rumor died down. Minseok thought it was a crazy rumor, so he kept acting the same with Jongdae even if he asked for some space. In the elder Prince’s defense, avoiding each other would only mean that the rumors were true. “But Baekhyun will not like it if you keep hanging out with me.” Jongdae worried.
“Baekhyun’s more mature now. Besides, I support whatever’s going on with you two.” Minseok winked as Jongdae blushed deeply. “What’s gotten into you? You’re so prim and proper around me now. Slouch, come on. And wait, are you wearing lip gloss?” He leaned closer to look at the omega’s lips. Jongdae pushed him back, wiping it off quickly. “Why did you take it off? Are you seriously amping up your looks for Baekhyun? Jongdae, wow, I never thought you’d be like other omegas around here.”
“Leave me alone if you’ll only tease me.” Jongdae pushed him away gently and cleaned his lips with slight humiliation.
“Don’t take this the wrong way but, were you wearing lip gloss when you first kissed him?” Minseok wondered, but he was only helping. “I bet you didn’t have any of these makeup and Baekhyun still fell in love with you. Personally, I prefer your natural look. You’re already very pretty, Jongdae.”
“I am?” Jongdae smiled softly, touched by his words.
“Pretty enough to get my picky brother’s attention, and that says a lot.” Minseok rose and wore his satchel. “Just be yourself, come on. Don’t be like those plastic bitches around here just because of some rumors. If I hear one more, I’ll scream to everyone you two already claimed each other.”
“Minseok!” Jongdae slapped his arm to quit joking around. Minseok laughed maniacally and waved goodbye to get to class, letting Jongdae clean his face with wet wipes and smiled at his reflection, knowing Baekhyun would like this more too. Just like magic, someone draped over his back and placed a bottle of juice on the table before coolly walking away like nothing happened. Jongdae saw Baekhyun wink at him before going on his way, looking very proud of himself.
The omega saw his favorite soda and pulled the note underneath. Baekhyun apologized for the rumors going around and reminded him that his bravery and strength was something those people envied. At the end of the note, Baekhyun asked for his attendance at the term break party and a request to save him a dance. Jongdae looked around and spotted Baekhyun with the rest of the Alpha Heartthrob Squad, looking at him with an anxious smile. He smiled and nodded, giving his answer to the Prince’s question.
—👑—
The term break party was held in Sehun’s estate in the west of city central. It was the most accessible for all students since there was a tarmac and a docking port by the seaside. Baekhyun and Minseok arrived in their private jet, in style of course, and got the party started. No teachers, no chaperones, no codes of conduct. Yes, there would be underaged drinking, but there was tons of security with breathalyzers and condoms were available everywhere. All those who attended had to sign waivers that they would be responsible for their actions and hold none of the Student Council accountable for what happened. These rich kids and their lawyers.
Jongdae arrived slightly later than the intended time since he had a video call with his father. He thanked his driver and asked him to keep his phone open in case he’ll need a ride home. The omega went inside the estate and scanned the vast backyard for familiar faces. He got a drink from the bar and said hi to some acquaintances, getting compliments on his amazing look. Jongdae put in some effort by wearing comfy ripped jeans, a plain shirt, and a designer jacket that had a belt around his tiny waist.
“Is that My Lord Jongdae?” Sehun saw the omega looking hot, giving him a kiss on his cheek before changing his drink with something stronger. “You are a vision, Jongdae. Stay away from those alphas, they’re bad news. I’ll bring you to Minseok’s table.” What was this? Sehun was chatty? The Prince was very drunk from the looks of things.
“Is Baekhyun here?” Jongdae said directly to Sehun’s ear, making the host smirk loosely.
“Of course he’s your target tonight, you and many others.” Sehun laughed. “He’ll go to you when it’s your time, baby. There’s Minseok and his boyfriend, get your butt over there.” He patted the omega’s butt before entertaining other people.
“Minseok has a boyfriend?” Jongdae mumbled with intrigue, knowing the face of the student on Minseok’s lap. It was his classmate Kyungsoo, Prince Kyungsoo actually. The moment at the food fight blossomed into something? Wow.
“Finally! My family’s complete! We can have a photo now. Where’s Baekhyun?” Minseok looked around as Kyungsoo snickered with the rest of the Student Council members and their partners around the table. No wonder they were called the Alpha Heartthrob Squad, everyone was taken except Sehun.
“What family? Baekhyun hasn't even made a move on Jongdae since the start of the year.” The Secretary chimed with a scoff. Kyungsoo waved adorably at his classmate, patting the empty space beside Minseok so Jongdae would sit. He felt slightly apologetic for not approaching him sooner because he was unsure if Baekhyun was sure about Jongdae. Apparently, Minseok and Kyungsoo got together seriously in the summer at a hiking activity and just fell in love in the mountains, using the food fight incident as a springboard to get this ship going.
“Who said Baekhyun didn’t make a move? He flew all the way to where Jongdae was to ask Jongdae’s mom if he could court her son. That’s fucking special.” Chanyeol defended as Jongdae blushed, realizing that the story had already reached many people.
“Baekhyun walked Jongdae so many times to our room. The Prince works silently but strongly.” Kyungsoo wiggled his brows, impressed with Baekhyun’s approach. “And these shits still have the audacity to make a rumor about the brothers sleeping with him? Pathetic.”
“Hey, calm down.” Minseok squeezed Kyungsoo’s thigh and kissed his lips in front of everyone. Chanyeol cooed and turned to his mate, kissing him too. Actually every couple made out, leaving Jongdae out of place in this snogfest.
He stood up and excused himself, announcing that he was going to get another drink. Jongdae weaved through the crowd, smiling at the people he knew until he reached the bar. He waited for his drink patiently but someone bumped into him hard. “There you are, omega. I’ve been looking everywhere for you.” Jongdae pushed the alpha off of him, fighting his way out of his hold. The other students just watched and took videos because the waiver stated that each one was responsible for their own experiences.
Minjun lifted Jongdae to the bar top and tried to tie his hands with a keg hose, trying to get on top of the omega. His friends kept cheering while some concerned students called for security or tried to find Sehun.
“Minjun, get off!” Jongdae slapped his face and rejected his kisses, slowly letting fear and defeat consume him because of the alpha strength forced on him. He ducked and bit Minjun’s arm to let go, kicking him back when his hold loosened, letting him fall off the bar pathetically. Minjun bumped another person when he stood and that made some people run away or move to a higher place, the circle expanding around him.
“Are you seriously touching my boyfriend in front of me?” Baekhyun chuckled and gripped Minjun’s shirt collar. Jongdae sat up with the help of some concerned students, helping him off the bar safely. “Some guts you have, Minjun.”
“Huh? What boyfriend? Him? Baekhyun, you’re bluffing.” Minjun thought it was a joke, but Baekhyun wasn’t laughing. The Prince judged this pathetic beta openly, intimidating the witnesses. “How could this be your boyfriend? He slept with me during summer break too.” Minjun pulled his shirt from Baekhyun’s grasp and pulled Jongdae flush against his body with his hands roaming his body. Jongdae pushed him again and Baekhyun caught Minjun, suckerpunching him unconscious.
Everyone screamed and stood frozen, thinking Baekhyun killed Minjun. The Prince whistled at the bartender to check for a pulse as he stepped over the body to check on Jongdae. The bartender gave an okay sign, meaning Minjun just passed out. So everyone went back to partying, leaving him on the floor. Baekhyun rubbed Jongdae’s wrists while asking for two drinks from the other bartender. “Sorry I couldn’t meet you at the entrance. I was driving the boat.” He shrugged lamely and Jongdae just blinked. “Want to go for a ride?”
“Do you have a license for that too?” Jongdae asked cluelessly as Baekhyun nodded with a slight smile.
Baekhyun got his drink and Jongdae held his own, letting Baekhyun hold his hand intimately as they weaved through people to get to the docks. He passed by Minseok’s table and nodded that he would head out to sea again. Minseok saluted them and winked at Jongdae as the others cheered them on loudly to get back together or just date already. Baekhyun screamed at them to stop being embarrassing as Jongdae smiled bashfully, feeling that the right time was here.
The Prince helped Jongdae get on the speedboat that had a royal seal on the instrument panel. Jongdae didn’t know where to stand or sit so Baekhyun moved him in front of him, caged in his arms while he steered the boat to the water. The sea breeze felt so good on their skins, Jongdae leaned on Baekhyun as the boat drove farther from the shore.
“Try driving it.” Baekhyun said to his ear while putting his hands on the wheel before putting his hands over them. Jongdae took control quickly, going wherever he wanted as Baekhyun held him steadily on his waist.
They turned off the engine once they reached the farthest buoy, deeming it private enough to talk privately. Baekhyun lined Jongdae’s shoulder with light kisses, embracing him tightly as he breathed the omega’s scent. Jongdae looked at the horizon then craned his head to look at the alpha. “Should we fight now?”
“Up to you. What should we scream about first?” Baekhyun smirked lazily, kind of getting sleepy in the silence and the gentle rock of the waves.
“What about…you visiting my mom without even waiting for me to get home?” Jongdae rolled his eyes as Baekhyun apologized right away. Minseok only gave him four hours without counting the travel time to and from the airport. “Mom loved the flowers though. She was so shocked to see the Prince at her door. She thought she did something wrong.”
“No, I told her I did something wrong, that I hurt her baby.” Baekhyun kissed Jongdae’s head sweetly. “I wasn’t honest with him. I was scared to be myself when I had no reason to be.”
“You were scared of thinking I would hate you for being an alpha.” Jongdae finally understood this. “I only got mad because the news didn’t come from you, Baekhyun. Minseok knew, Sehun knew. Even Chanyeol knew and I’m your best friend. I thought you trusted them more because you’re all alphas while I’m an omega.” He explained that he felt insecure and outnumbered by alphas for his attention.
“The only omega in my life, the only one who matters more than all the alphas in my life, I thought that was obvious.” Baekhyun snickered as Jongdae felt stupid for being insecure over nothing. “I wish you had more faith in me, baby.” He kissed the omega’s neck gently to give him the affection he failed to give during their time apart. “I missed you.”
“Me too, I missed dragging you around.” Jongdae teased, feeling Baekhyun’s smile on his skin. “So um, you being an alpha, um, it’s…it’s fine, I guess.” He made it clear in the most awkward way he could say.
“Why are you blushing?” Baekhyun noticed his cheeks resembled apples.
“Me? No! It’s just…it’s,” Jongdae looked at the alpha’s chest and blushed deeper. “It’s a good look on you. I’ve been dreaming of this since we were kids. I’ve thought of you that long.” Baekhyun scoffed incredulously, not believing that even if it was true. “What happens now? Will you just keep sniffing my neck?”
“Your perfume’s amazing.” Baekhyun smirked, proud to have his creation on his omega’s skin. “You’re in control, Jongdae. I’ll follow what your heart wants us to be, but I want to court you properly, as an alpha.” Baekhyun expressed to keep his pride intact.
“What’s the point of courting? You already told everyone back there you’re my boyfriend.” Jongdae tutted his tongue against teeth, pretending to disapprove of the claim. “My Dad will not like that you came to my Mom but not to him.”
“What do you mean I didn’t? I flew there after meeting your Mom.” Baekhyun’s brows furrowed as Jongdae stared at the alpha, dumbfounded. “What? He didn’t tell you? We even had a drink, which knocked me out on the flight home.” He added with a cute giggle, the traces of his omega training becoming second nature.
“Wait, so I’m the only one who isn’t aware of your plans to court me?” Jongdae turned around in Baekhyun’s arms, ready to scold the ears off of this alpha.
“What do you mean you didn’t know? I’ve been courting you since we slept together. I just went feral when Minseok made a move on you. Repeatedly” Baekhyun rolled his eyes upon remembering it.
“Y-You have?” Jongdae suddenly saw the signs, the small gestures, and the intimacy they displayed unknowingly. “Oh.”
“Yeah. Oh.” Baekhyun teased. The faint sound of music from the shore reminded Baekhyun of his request, stepping back slightly to ask the omega’s hand for a dance. Jongdae stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Baekhyun’s neck, slowly dancing to Best Part with the gentle rock of the waves.
“This playlist is so Sehun.” Jongdae commented as Baekhyun laughed because it was true. “It’s a good song though.” Baekhyun sang the lyrics softly for Jongdae’s ears only, romancing the omega he liked since they were kids. Jongdae closed his eyes and loved the song even more with Baekhyun’s voice.
As the outro played, Baekhyun lifted his head off of Jongdae’s shoulder to let the tips of their noses touch as he whispered the last of the lyrics. “If you love me, won’t you say something?” Jongdae blushed deeply as he looked at Baekhyun’s sincere eyes, knowing the alpha genuinely asked this from him.
So Jongdae leaned in slowly, flicking a glance to his eyes if this was alright. His eyes fell shut when Baekhyun pressed their lips together, letting actions speak louder than words. Baekhyun pulled back slowly and kissed him gently, taking his time in remembering how Jongdae liked it. The omega smiled when they pulled back, biting his lip slightly out of giddiness. Baekhyun couldn’t hide how much he cared for Jongdae anymore, peppering his face with kisses before locking him in a hug so protective and possessive, Jongdae simply melted into him.
They went back to shore as the sun set, joining their friends for a bonfire by the beach. Chanyeol gave Baekhyun a high five, commending his smoothness as Minseok opened his arms to hug his future brother-in-law. Baekhyun sat on a big bean bag then Jongdae fell over him, sharing a blanket and holding each other closely as if someone else would steal the other. There was no denying they were soulmates, true mates just by the way they looked at each other’s eyes. Minseok reckoned that these two would end up claiming each other by next semester since their chemistry could make anything combust.
And that they almost did. Baekhyun held himself back and bruised Jongdae’s lips with kisses instead while they tried to have sex again, safely too, during Jongdae’s heat days later. When morning came and Baekhyun returned home, he greeted his parents and his brother good morning and asked if someone could join them.
“No way.” Minseok couldn’t believe Baekhyun beat him to this.
Jongdae appeared, delighting the King and Queen because they have always been fond of the omega. Baekhyun subtly, yet not so subtly, reached for the omega’s hand and locked their fingers together as Jongdae leaned on Baekhyun’s side, hugging his arm.
“Can my boyfriend join us for breakfast?” Baekhyun’s eyes sparkled with happiness, pleasing his parents greatly.
“No, it has to be your mate. Sorry, Jongdae.” Minseok chimed.
“Oh, okay. Wait.” Baekhyun lifted Jongdae on the edge of the table and made a move to claim him there and then, making everyone panic. The young Prince laughed at their reactions, enjoying Jongdae’s nervous trembling the most. Jongdae apologized for Baekhyun’s reckless display, so embarrassed before his future in-laws.
“Sit down, dear. Eat everything you want here. You have to stay healthy if you’ll have pups with Baekhyun.” The King took care of Jongdae immediately, making Baekhyun choke on his food. Pups already? They weren’t even 20 years old. “Baekhyun, when do you plan on marrying? I was thinking you should go after Minseok. Jongdae wouldn’t mind, right?”
“Oh my god, Dad, not over breakfast.” Minseok felt a secondhand embarrassment now.
“Then move faster and introduce us to your boyfriend. Don’t think we don’t know, Minseok. Their kingdom has been sending too many gifts to you. Are you the omega in the relationship?” The King scolded him openly, not minding Jongdae’s presence.
“So, how did Baekhyun ask for your hand, Dae? I’m expecting it’s not romantic at all.” The Queen was intrigued while they ate, embarrassing Baekhyun this time.
“Oh, I honestly didn’t know he already did. He made me breakfast and took care of me when I was in heat. It was so bland, Your Highness, so casual. But he took me to the sea and we danced together on our second chance. It was very romantic. He actually has the potential to be sweet.” Jongdae put a good word in, but he too embarrassed Baekhyun.
Save the royal brothers from these people. They only wanted to fall in love properly.

Jongdae sat on the Student Council’s lunch table, waiting for Baekhyun to finish his business with the Headmaster since the upperclassmen had classes. The omega said hello to those who said hi to him, sometimes chatting with some students to ask how they were doing. After the term break party, Baekhyun made it clear that he was dating Jongdae and had plans on marrying him when the time came. Their promise rings were enough to prove it, the same one Chanyeol had with his mate. The omega chatted with someone from OSG, giving him suggestions for better suppressants.
“Baekhyun, hi. It’s okay to sit here, right?” The OSG member acknowledged the alpha that sat beside Jongdae, looking around consciously in case the upperclassmen came.
“Yeah, it’s fine. Here’s your drink, My Lord.” Baekhyun snuck a kiss on Jongdae’s cheek then minded his own business by eating chips.
“You’re eating junk food again? Have some carrot sticks, babe.” Jongdae slid his container and Baekhyun made a face.
“Jongdae, feed your big puppy well. I’ll see you at OSG tomorrow.” The other student shook Baekhyun’s hand and squeezed Jongdae’s shoulder before leaving.
“You heard him, feed me.” Baekhyun opened his mouth, waiting for Jongdae to put a carrot stick in his mouth. Jongdae closed Baekhyun’s mouth and kissed his lips quickly, looking around for any faculty members. “Babe, we’ll get caught!”
“Won’t that be fun?” Jongdae giggled, planning to sneak another kiss in. Baekhyun looked over his shoulder and kissed Jongdae’s cheek quickly, clearing his throat excessively as if it would hide their cheekiness. The omega leaned on Baekhyun with a laugh, enjoying their free time together.
“Jongdae, I’m curious about something.” Baekhyun raised as he munched on a carrot stick. “Your crush list, who’s the first name?”
“It doesn’t matter.” Jongdae closed his eyes, wrapping his arms around Baekhyun’s torso while resting. “I set the bar too high for the rest of the alphas on that list. I’m not disappointed at all with the result.” He let the tips of their noses touch sweetly, giggling cutely.
“Show me the list.” Baekhyun demanded, getting more curious now.
“There’s no need, I swear.” Jongdae moved his satchel away, knowing Baekhyun will do everything to see it. The alpha wrapped his arm around Jongdae’s waist and bit his shoulder playfully to grab Jongdae’s satchel, his notebook specifically. “Baekhyun! Baekhyun, no fair! Ah! Ah!”
Baekhyun got the notebook and ran away, opening the pages quickly for the list as Jongdae yelled for him to give it back. The alpha shook his head and saw the list, seeing his name on the first line. “I knew it! I was right!” Baekhyun screamed out of joy, pumping his fists in the air as Jongdae ran to him and covered his mouth. “These shits have nothing against me!”
“Babe, you’re so embarrassing!” Jongdae held his arms, looking around to make sure no one was bothered by them. “Of course you’re the first. What part of ‘you’re my first love’ don’t you get? You’re supposed to be smart, right?” He sassed, thinking Baekhyun was being so childish right now.
“I knew that. You told me so many times. I just want to rip this list up now that you’re mine.” Baekhyun’s smile was so cute, Jongdae let him tear the page in front of him. “Have I told you how pretty you look today, babe?” Jongdae shook his head, loving this part of the day since he and Baekhyun became official. “You’re pretty, so pretty. I’m so lucky, the luckiest alpha in the world.”
“You and your superlatives,” Jongdae draped his arms over Baekhyun’s shoulders sweetly, forgetting they were on campus.
“Because I love you, Jongdae, super.” Baekhyun embraced his omega, swaying them side to side until they were back to the table.
“No, I love you more.” Jongdae mumbled.
“No, no, I do. I love you so much more.” Baekhyun nuzzled his face to Jongdae’s neck to prove it.
“You’re such a liar. I love you more.” Jongdae rolled his eyes with a sappy smile.
“Get off our table if you’ll only make us vomit.” Minseok cringed at their endearment, openly judging them as the upperclassmen gathered. Baekhyun pulled Jongdae to sit on his lap, letting them eat while they munched on carrot sticks together. “Where’s Kyungsoo?”
“He’s in heat. Didn’t he tell you?” Jongdae said, finding it odd.
“He did. I just thought it’s over.” Minseok shrugged. The alphas with partners around the table reacted violently at his lack of sensitivity towards his omega.
“I don’t know him. He’s not my brother.” Baekhyun looked away, amazed Minseok would say that when he left his omega alone to endure his heat.
“Minseok, Kyungsoo’s heat should be done by now if you visited him.” Jongdae winked as Minseok chuckled, nodding to his words.
“You think I didn’t last night? You two were so busy making noise, you didn’t notice me leave.” Minseok blurted, making the alphas howl at Baekhyun’s game. “Remember the plan, guys. I will get married first.”
“Then hurry up! I can’t stand wearing condoms anymore.” Baekhyun threw a carrot stick at him.
“Jongdae, I’ll recommend you to my doctor if it’s alright. Instead of taking birth control pills, which we all know Baekhyun doesn’t approve of,” Chanyeol’s mate leaned forward to share what he knew that seemed like a secret.
“He doesn’t like wearing condoms either.” Chanyeol added, giving a high five to his fellow alpha.
“Have a temporary plate on your womb for now. I doubt Baekhyun will lessen his sexual activities with you when you two are still so young.” Chanyeol’s mate introduced, intriguing the young couple. The four of them huddled and talked about the medical procedure, seriously considering it to not be a burden to the royal family’s plans. Meanwhile, Minseok called Kyungsoo to check up on him, pleased to know that he’s coming back tomorrow.
Things became happier for everyone since then, falling in love freely, studying and working towards their futures. Baekhyun enjoyed Meet the Robinsons again because Jongdae watched it with him, and just him, while sharing snacks and a blanket, making out from time to time until they fell asleep in the theater room. They woke up past dinner time, too comfortable in each other’s arms to even notice their hunger. Baekhyun pulled the blanket over their heads and slept again, hoping Jongdae would never leave his side at night again.
Jongdae kissed his alpha’s forehead, hoping to meet him at dreamland even if they were finally living their dream of being together. If they would go back in time and meet their 8-year old selves, they were going to tell them to stand and sit closer together, hold each other’s hand and not think of anything, never worry about what they were going to be after presenting and just trust each other. Second genders were only limiting labels to what they could become but their souls, being soulmates, held more power than anything when it came to love.
Baekhyun met another day with Jongdae by his side, loving mornings because of him. His parents already sealed a decree on Baekhyun’s betrothal before Minseok because it didn’t entail another nation’s tradition or approval. By the time they turned 20 years old, this would be publicized and they could marry any time they wished. Although it was tempting, Baekhyun still respected Minseok’s timeline, opting to wait two more years because with or without that paperwork, Jongdae was his forever. He didn’t mind waiting since he had company during the wait, a friend to lean on, a partner to walk with for the rest of their lives.
By the time they reached their last year in the academy, Baekhyun and Jongdae decided to claim each other with the consent of their parents. Jongdae couldn’t stop staring at his claim mark by the juncture of his neck and shoulder, thinking he was still dreaming. Baekhyun laughed at him, staying shirtless to let his claim mark heal faster.
“Am I dead? Is this all a dream? Did we really just claim each other, Baekhyun?” Jongdae leaned back against Baekhyun’s headboard, giddy and tingly in just the alpha’s shirt. Baekhyun nodded as he picked up their clothes on the floor to put on the chair. “I think you killed me when you bit me. This isn’t real. It’s stinging!” Jongdae gasped adorably as Baekhyun shook his head with a laugh.
“It’s real. Mine hurts too, but it’s special. I’ll love how it will scar me eventually.” Baekhyun tilted his head to show Jongdae. They purposely chose the same spot too, how cute. “Stay still.” The alpha sat beside him and dabbed some ointment on Jongdae’s claim mark, being as gentle as possible to not hurt him. “All done.” Baekhyun kissed his lips and stood, leaving the room to get their breakfast.
Jongdae bit his finger as he looked around Baekhyun’s room, the identity of his mate sinking in his mind. He didn’t give much thought on Baekhyun’s status until now, now that they were officially each other’s mate. Did Jongdae care about it? No, not really. Baekhyun was still the same with and without a crown, so Jongdae didn’t have a hard time adjusting to this life. Slowly, his mind started drifting into the horizon of dreamland as he absentmindedly placed a hand on his belly. How many pups did Baekhyun want? Jongdae forgot to ask before they claimed each other.
The alpha returned and saw his omega deep in thought, leaning on the archway until he noticed his presence. Jongdae blinked and returned to reality, seeing Baekhyun staring at him with so much love in his eyes. “You’re so worth the wait, babe. My bed has never looked this good.” The alpha sighed dreamily, smitten to see his omega, his mate in his bedroom. Jongdae has been here many times before but that morning just felt so special.
“Baekhyun, I forgot to ask you something. How many pups do you want to have?” Jongdae worried about his womb, hoping he could give Baekhyun everything he wanted.
“As many as life gives us,” Baekhyun hasn’t put much thought on it either since he wasn’t mandated to have a specific number of heirs unlike Minseok. “As long as you can still carry them safely. You’re still the most important one to me.” He crawled back to bed and kissed his omega’s hand sweetly, pressing it to his cheek. “Should we have three? Five?”
“I think three is fine. They’ll be all over the place if we let them overpower us.” Jongdae smiled fondly, loving conversations like this.
“Let’s do our best.” Baekhyun winked, implying that they should have more sex if they wanted to have that many children in the future.
“When is Minseok’s coronation? How much longer do we have to wait? I feel like we’re running out of time, it’s silly.” Jongdae expressed softly, sharing his worries to his best friend.
“We have enough time, babe. Let’s just live honestly, okay? Keep moving forward.” Baekhyun mumbled before kissing his shoulder. “Let’s make this dream last forever.” Jongdae liked the sound of that. But he couldn’t stop thinking of having pups with Baekhyun soon, finding it sweet to have their hands over his belly while they waited for the right time to have one.
Before Baekhyun and Jongdae graduated from the academy, the young Prince was announced as the Royal Advisor to the King prior to Minseok’s coronation to ensure the citizens that there were good people supporting the next King. Alongside that, the public announcement of Baekhyun’s betrothal with Jongdae created a buzz, expecting Minseok’s wedding news to be next. And they were right.
Since the process of partnering two nations was so tedious, so many traditions and agreements had to be made just so Minseok and Kyungsoo could marry. Two months after their wedding, Minseok ascended to the throne as King with Omega Prince Kyungsoo by his side. And not even six months after the coronation, shocking news circulated the stations and social media as the Palace Public Relations Office announced the date for Prince Baekhyun and Lord Jongdae’s wedding next month.
Minseok barged into Baekhyun’s office with Kyungsoo telling him to calm down first, both wondering what the rush was for and why this didn’t pass through the King’s table. Baekhyun and Jongdae were on the sofa, just chilling on a workday…during work hours too…as if all the nation’s problems were solved. Their parents went there too, hoping the brothers wouldn’t fight since Minseok liked his schedules to be followed religiously.
“You said we can get married after Minseok’s wedding and coronation. I’m just following the plan. Minseok, you know we wanted to get married years ago. Can you please give this time to us now? We really don’t see why we have to wait when there’s nothing scheduled in the future. Besides, it’s not just us two anymore.” Baekhyun shrugged, seeing there was no problem with the date. They didn’t want a grand wedding and it wasn’t going to be in the same year anyway. No tradition or superstition would be broken,
“Hold on,” Minseok glanced at the seated Jongdae who kept his hands on his belly, knowing he should be standing in the presence of the King. “Not just you two anymore? Jongdae’s pregnant?” The Queen and Kyungsoo gasped, already excited even if there’s no confirmation.
“Yup, five weeks.” Baekhyun shrugged, hoping to not get an earful from his family. If only he took a video of their priceless reactions but remembering it was good enough. Jongdae stood and hugged Baekhyun’s side, announcing officially that they were going to have a pup soon.
“My Baby’s all grown up.” Baekhyun’s mother hugged them first, genuinely happy for this blessing as his father had to take a seat, thinking they were far too young to have a pup.
“Oh my god, you beat me there again.” Minseok chuckled, getting dizzy because life was going to change again. “What if that breaks the 20 generations of alpha lineage?”
“If our pup will, all I ask from you is to give them both alpha and omega training. It’s really an eye-opener, Minseok. If we can add this in the early education’s curriculum, I think it would change the new generation.” Baekhyun spoke his mind, consulting this idea with Jongdae beforehand. “But we urge you and Kyungsoo to keep trying again.” He hoped it wouldn’t offend Kyungsoo.
“I won’t tie your pup to the throne, Baekhyun. You know you have to succeed me regardless if I have children soon. Only then will the next generation take after us. Don’t worry about it for now. You have to get married first and make sure my niece or nephew comes to us safely.” Minseok hugged his brother, congratulating him for this achievement. Baekhyun has truly come a long way in terms of maturity and selflessness, it was so wonderful to see.
True to Baekhyun’s promise, he never silenced Jongdae throughout their marriage. Everything Jongdae wanted, Baekhyun gave it and more to him and their three pups. He understood Jongdae better than anyone because of his omega training during his early teens, using it to be a great husband to him. At the same time, Jongdae was more than a child bearer and homemaker to Baekhyun, working hard as a lawyer that upheld omegas’ rights in parliament.
Baekhyun was so turned on every time Jongdae schooled alphas in sessions and debated with them, he couldn’t keep his hands off of his husband at night. Jongdae felt the same with him when Baekhyun imposed his dominance with his wisecrack remarks and sarcasm. His body felt so hot when Baekhyun loosened his tie at the recent session because he was determined to win the argument.
From sharing their opinions in OSG to fighting for equal rights and omega privileges, these two became the voice they promised to be so the future generation could live better. When it was time to clock out of work, they left their brains at their shared office to rock the bed like animals, unwinding together in each other’s arms.
“This is a dream, right? We’re still in a dream?” Jongdae asked after a great round of sex, catching his breath as Baekhyun kept whispering curses beside him. “How do you still have energy after popping your neck veins at the session earlier? Are you still mad about it?”
“Very.” Baekhyun caught his breath with a ridiculous smile on his handsome face. “You were so sexy when you stared down that Counselor. I wanted to take you there and then.” He laughed and Jongdae did too. Jongdae cuddled his side and kissed his cheek in thanks.
“Baekhyun, you can open your eyes.” Jongdae mumbled, knowing Baekhyun was still in his high. “You’re not dreaming anymore. We haven’t been in a long time. This is real.”
“Thank fuck it is. I won’t trade this life for a dream. You’re my dream, Jongdae.” Baekhyun kissed his forehead sweetly, staying consistent with his affection towards the omega. “Have I told you today how beautiful you are?” Jongdae shook his head, giggling adorably like he didn’t age a day. “You are, always. Thought you should know,” Baekhyun winked.
And he made sure to let Jongdae know this for the rest of their lives together, dreaming with their eyes open.
