Chapter Text
The five of you move inside after you start to sunburn; you’re starting to get tired and sick already. Everyone is not-so-subtly fussing over you, and you don’t even try to fight it, letting them lead you to the couches. You fwump down, grabbing Fang’s hand so you can pull him down to join you, and he lands in a heap next to you. You adjust so you're leaning on him a little, but not enough that he can't pull away if he wants. He relaxes, throwing an arm over the back of the couch, a light blush on his cheekbones.
It should feel weird…you're more comfortable with a skeleton you've just met than most people you'd known your entire life, but it doesn't. It feels safe, comfortable…and after feeling so lonely over the years, you'll take it at face value.
You look to Edge, almost pleadingly, and he can't resist that look, taking the seat on your other side, thighs touching. You give him a big, goofy smile that he returns with a small one of his own. Over your head, his brother waggles his eyebrows suggestively, and Edge rolls his eyelights. The horror brothers file in, sharing the other couch, and Pine has a smug little smile on his face, looking altogether too pleased about the current arrangement, while Spruce looks like he wants nothing more than to scoop you up and keep you to himself.
The skeletons hold a vote on what to watch, you being too sleepy to really voice an opinion, and Edge wins with a Mettaton rerun. It's like this that you fall asleep so easily, sandwiched between soulmates you weren't even aware of.
It's here in this comfortable space between wakefulness and slumber that it grips you, so tightly, pulling you from a place of love to one of nothingness.
