Chapter Text
Mocha Delight had taken the day off and kept the café closed today. This was usually unheard of, her café seemed to be a morning routine for many of the folk in Cloverly since she opened up shop over a decade ago. But she wanted to make sure today was perfect, because today she would be meeting her niece Citrus Tang for the very first time! She had received a letter about a month ago from her sister requesting for Mocha’s assistance. Her little sister and her husband would be traveling for work over the next several months and their daughter Citrus Tang was having a lot of trouble keeping her hooves clean even while they supervised her. Their parents already have their hooves full and wouldn’t be able to look after their granddaughter.
It was with mixed feelings that Mocha replied to her sister's request. She had left so many years ago right after her sister’s wedding. They both had fallen in love with the same stallion and he had chosen Mocha Delight’s sister. With a broken heart, Mocha packed up a bag and set off on her own adventure to the southern continent and made a home in Cloverly. She hasn’t returned to Equestria even once.
But reading her sister’s letter and getting all the day to day updates about mom and dad, their little diner, her new niece Citrus Tang… Mocha’s heart ached with homesickness. She loved her family dearly and even though she kept in contact through letters, it still wasn’t quite the same as getting to work side by side with her father every day.
Perhaps she replied with more heart than head, but Mocha was sincere when she wrote how happy she was to hear from her and she would be more than happy to help in any way she could. Well she might have gotten more than she bargained for because the next request was for her niece Citrus Tang to come and stay with Mocha in Cloverly. Maybe work in her café over the summer break? It was a really big ask, but it made sense when they explained her talent was similar to Mocha’s in the inspiration of delicious beverages. Perhaps this was something they could bond over, Mocha thought excitedly to herself.
With a glance at the clock Mocha decided it seemed late enough now that she could head down to the docks. After all, today was the day she was going to meet her niece. It was hard to contain herself. Wrapping a silk scarf around her head and tying it under her chin she sets out from the café. The bell joyfully sang as the door closed and the sunlight shone overhead. Surely today would be a good day, Mocha smiled as she picked up her pace to a trot.
