Chapter Text

Campbell and Joe now sat in Camps room. They’ve been together for almost a year and Joes happy to say this is the best he’s ever been. Joe looked down at his guitar (which was Campbells old one) and he began to strum. Campbell played along.

‘Please allow me to introduce myself

I’m a man of wealth and taste’

The record spun around in the record player Campbell had bought Joe for his birthday. Joe had begun collecting CDs for them a while ago and Camp was confused as to why he would buy them if he couldn’t play them, Joe said it was for decoration but the Scot was still mildly confused.

Been around for a long long year…

‘Stole many mans

Souls and faith.’

‘Hey Joe,’ Campbell said, his fingers still brushing the strings. ‘Yea?’ Joe looked up at him and smiled, ‘do you ever…wanna leave the asylum?’ Campbell blushed a little and looked away. Joe shrugged, ‘not really, nowhere to go. I don’t have any education and I have no support so I’d just end up in some homeless shelter again.’ Campbell sighed, ‘thank god…if you left I’d be so lonely,’ he chuckled. ‘Why? Do you think you’ll be stuck here forever?’ he asked with a half smirk.

Campbell nodded. ‘I’m too loony Joey. Loonier than anyone here!’ he grinned, ‘I mean, I once through a sock out the window because I didn’t like someones car!’ he laughed. ‘Sounds normal enough to me,’ Joe shrugged. Campbell nodded, ‘cause you’ve been surrounded by loonies your whole life,’ He claimed, ‘fair point.’

They sat in silence for a bit. ‘Did you love…Sandor?’ Joe looked up, somewhat shocked at this question. ‘Yes..no?’ he looked down, ‘I don’t know,’ he sighed. ‘I really don’t want to think about it,’ he put down the guitar. ‘I’m sorry Joey,’ Campbell frowned and wrapped an arm around him.

Campbell sat outside the office. His dad had come in for his check up today, but Campbell knew he didn’t really care all that much for him. ‘Campbell!’ his dad called as he walked out the door. ‘Good news,’ he said but his face suggested otherwise.

‘Wha’?’ Campbell mumbled. ‘Your being discharged,’ he gave Camp a half smile. The Scott’s eyes widened and he stood up straight ‘What!’ he blinked a few times and grabbed a fist full of his own hair, ‘Oh… oh’ He sat down again. ‘Pack your bags,’ his dad said, ‘you have a train to catch tomorrow at two,’ he finished and began to walk off.Camp looked up and raised an eyebrow, ‘why?’ he asked.

His dad stopped and turned back to him, ‘Your moving in with your aunt, I believe it’ll do you good,’ he smiled. Campbells heart sank, ‘No…noononono I am not moving there,’ he shook his hands about. ‘Nope, not happening,’ He spoke as he got up, walking back to his room.

‘Campbell Bain get your arse back here!’ he yelled. Campbell shut his door behind him and sat on his bed, hugging his knees close to himself. The door creaked open and Campbell groaned, ‘go away’ he sighed. ‘Camp?’ said a soft voice, Campbell looked up to see Joe. ‘Joey,’ he sighed and smiled ever so slightly. Joe sat beside Campbell and hugged him, ‘what’s wrong?’ he whispered.

Campbell took a deep breath. ‘I got discharged and my dad wants me to move in with my aunt,’ he choked on his words. ‘It’s hours away Joey, I won’t be able to see you,’ he whimpered and sniffled, wiping his nose. ‘Camp, it’ll be okay…here,’ he pulled camp down with him and they huddled close, ‘We’ll make it through this, worse things have happened to us,’ he breathed and kissed the Scotts forehead.

Campbell sighed and stayed close to his boyfriend, calming himself down with the reminder of how close they were. That’s when the Scott had an idea.

‘Joey,’ he began, ‘what if we ran away together.’ Joseph sat and looked at Campbell as if he had ten heads. Joe shook his head, ‘Campbell, are you mad?’ he rubbed the bridge of his nose, ‘and don’t say you're a looney please,’ he continued ‘be serious about this, where would we go?’ Campbell sat up, ‘we go to the subway and buy the tickets for the train that are the furthest away from Glasgow, and won’t have us waiting five hours to arrive.’

Joe sighed. ‘I…do you have a plan?’ he asked. Campbell lit up, ‘so you’ll go?’ he grinned, ‘if you have a believable plan, otherwise we’ll have to become pen pals.’ Joe replied. Campbell nodded, ‘okay, well…We pack our bags, hide it under the bed and at midnight we’ll sneak out the window and head off to the subway,’ he explained, ‘and as i said, catch the train for the furthest location!’

Joe nodded along with him, and then stood up. ‘Okay, I’ll go back,’ he smiled and left the room.

The room was dark and the moon was split in half. Campbell sat up on his bed and held his bag close, looking out of his window. ‘Sorry, Camp,’ Joe whispered and closed the door as slowly as he could. ‘Tried to get myself out of bed but…it was so comfy,’ he smiled. Campbell stood up and pecked Joes lips. ‘It’s alright Joey,’ he said and walked over to the window.

He twisted the handle up and pushed it open.
