Chapter Text
“O-oh, I’m so so sorry! Let me help you with that!” The unfamiliar voice stammers.
Finally lookin’ up to see the person speakin’, I notice that he’s a bit smaller than the other people I’ve met while here and that he seems to be wearin’ commoner’s clothes.
“I’m so sorry for bumping into you! I should have been watching where I was going and-”
“Nah, it’s okay!” I scruff his strangely cut blonde hair as he looks down at the floor. “I do stuff like that alla the time too, it happens.”
He looks back up to me with a guilty gaze and stares into my eyes. I’m not a big fan of my eyes bein’ stared into but I’m not gonna say anythin’.
“R-really? I mean, it is my fault for bumping into you . I really should pay more attention to my surroundings.” He scratches the back of his head before apologizin’ with a deep bow.
“Really, it’s nothin’… uh?” I motion for his name.
“Oh! Uh, I’m Nito!” He responds, risin’ from his bowin’ position.
“Nito.” I grin. “’s really fine. Sometimes ya just get bumped inta, ya know? Or yer the one bumpin’ inta people, I guess?”
He nods sheepishly. “I guess you’ve got a point.”
He then squats down to grab the stuff that got dropped when he ran into me. Feelin’ bad makin’ him do all of the cleanin’, I kneel down to help.
“Ah!” He begins. “I’m the one who made you drop your things, I’ll clean it up. You don’t need to worry about cleaning up after a mistake that I made.”
“No, no, I’m gonna help whether ya like it or not!” I huff out.
“O-okay.”
And with that, we both fell silent. I mean, all we were really doin’ was pickin’ up whatever fell outta my salad and the bread so it didn’t take all too long.
I stand back up, headin’ for the trash can, when Nito speaks up.
“I-uh… I haven’t caught your name yet, sir. Would you mind telling me?” He looks up at me with glimmering red eyes. It kinda reminds me of a baby rabbit for some reason.
“Oh! Apologies, I completely forgot to tell ya mine! Uh, I’m Mika! Nice ta meetcha!” I smile at him.
“Mika! Hm, your name sounds similar to that one archangel, Michael. That’s fitting since you’re like an angel compared to some of the other people I’ve accidentally bumped into!” He smiles back.
“That’s very kind of ya! But, whaddya mean I’m like an angel compared to people ya’ve bumped inta before? Are people really that mean out there?” I place my pointer finger on my chin in confusion.
Nito nods his head. “Yeah. Some people start yelling at me and call me a ‘brat’ or what have you. I am just some kid whose parents sent him here, after all. Some people act like I’m gum stuck under their shoe. Especially certain people with money and power.”
“Certain people? ‘M not sure whatcha mean by that.” I tilt my head.
“Well… I’ll just say that working as a servant around here isn’t exactly a uh… fun experience? I really shouldn’t say too much.” He frowns.
“I won’t make ya say anythin’ ya don’t wanna but I’m sorry ta hear that. I hope ya’ve been able ta find a better place to work for now.” I give him a smile to help cheer him up.
“Aaa,” he groans, “you’re being far too kind! I’m just doing what I have to to help support my friends and I and,” he gasps, “oh, no! Speaking of that I’ve really got to go! I’m going to be late!”
I look at him, confused, and try to say something in response. But before I’m able to, he gasps again.
“Oh! Oh no… I completely forgot! I got side tracked! I’m so sorry for bumping into you! This should cover for your lost food.” He tries to hand me some coins.
“Nuh-uh. You keep this, ya need it more than I do. Plus, I only lost a few leaves, I’ll be fine!” I shake my head.
“Really? Are you sure?”
I nod back at his unsure question.
“You really are like an angel then! Well then, goodbye! Maybe we’ll see each other again someday!”
He quickly jumps up and runs away to whatever business he’s got to attend to.
Man, that kid sure has a lotta energy. Welp. Gotta get back to the group. I start running back towards the place everyone was at before.
By the time I get back, it seems as if the other two had already gone away for the night and left Naru to stay and wait for me.
“They left already?” I speak up, startling Naru accidentally.
“Mika!” She dramatically sighs. “Don’t sneak up on me like that!”
“Hehe, sorry…” I drop my head in guilt.
“But, yeah, they also had something to do apparently. They better not be scheming anything or I swear-” She stops.
I bring my head back up to look at her and realize that there’s a small pack of chocolates in her hand. I point to them.
“Oh. These are for you! Tsukasa said to give them to you as an apology for him and Leo not being able to say goodbye. He’s quite strict with his formalities, that boy.”
I giggle and put my hands out for the bag. She puts it in my hands and smiles.
“Well,” she begins with a sigh. “I think I’m going to call it a night myself. It is getting quite late and we have a big day tomorrow.” She grins.
“Mhm. Night night! Go get some good sleep.” I smile back.
“Goodnight, Mika. I will.” She begins to head in the direction of her room.
With the plan nearly complete, I skip back to my room, anxious and excited for tomorrow.
