A Tale of Sorrow and Stone

Chapter 14: Epilogue

Chapter Text

Several months passed and Willa eventually made it back home. She was exhausted; physically, mentally and magically. She'd basically had to float Sam's statue back, she hadn't dared touch it, who knows how her magic would react. She also didn't let anyone else touch it, due to not wanting to explain what happened and fearing a reaction similar of that of those villagers. But eventually, she'd made it back.

It took several months of dragging Sam's statue across the land but they'd made it back to a safe haven. Although it didn't feel like a haven anymore. It was too empty. No more days of her, Sam and Nau hanging out and teaching each other magic. No more days of playing stupid games and enjoying each other's company. No more days of happy memories made together.

Willa let out a sigh, gazing up at Sam's statue. She'd put him at the edge of her clearing, close to the river. It had been his favourite spot. Pulling out her wand, Willa made several types of flowers grow around the base. She'd put the statue on a pedestal to at least make it look like a proper statue. And so anyone that came by wouldn't ask too many questions. The young wizard sat in front of the statue cross-legged, staring up at it. Avis flew over and perched herself in Willa's lap.

"Do you think there's any way to reverse the spell?" the kingfisher asked, staring up at Willa.

Willa sighed. "I don't know. I didn't mean to cast the spell in the first place. And even if we were able to, there's still the fact that he'd still be cursed."

"So he's stuck this way," Avis stated.

Willa nodded. "Maybe it's better for him this way. He won't be able to hurt anyone again, I think he'd want this."

Leaning forward, she began gently playing with one of the flowers at the base of the statue. She would spend the rest of her life guarding this statue, hoping one day he would be able to be freed. But unless that day came, he would be forever frozen in his prison of stone.
