Chapter Text

Every hero has their story. Their wins and their defeats; their gains and their losses. Every hero has their battles that makes them who they are. This story tells the tale of one young hero finding her place in the world and the experiences that come alongside that.

The blaring sound of the alarm dragged Aster into the land of being awake. A groan escaped her lips. She was having the best dream. But it was sadly time to get ready for the day. Opening her eyes, Aster sat up. She glared at her alarm at the other side of the room. It would've been easier to put her alarm right next to her bed but putting it on the other side of the room made it so Aster had to stand up and turn it off, it made her sleep in less.

Turning her alarm off, Aster began to stretch. Her bones didn't feel too sore but she always liked to stretch in the mornings, it helped get the sleepiness out of her system. Once she felt awake enough, she began moving around her room, grabbing her clothes for the day. She tossed her pjs aside and put on her clothes.

Turning to the mirror, she looked at herself in the reflection. Her lime green eyes stared back at her; Her tanned skin shimmered in the morning light creeping through the window. Her coal black hair sat messily upon her head; the tips of her hair a sky blue. An indigo blue hoodie covered her upper body, hanging off her scraggly limbs; a black sleeveless vest peaked out from her collar. Her cloud gray leggings hung from her hips and ash gray toeless socks adorned her feet.

Walking to the door, she was about to open it when a thought popped into her mind. She raced across the room and grabbed her denim blue beanie that was sitting on her desk, putting it atop her head. Her look wouldn't be complete without it. Grabbing her backpack off the floor, she made her way to the door.

Actually opening the door this time, Aster exited her room and made her way down the hall to the kitchen. The kitchen was attached to the living room making it like one big room. Her brothers, Jamie and Joseph were sitting on the couch, discussing something very loudly. Aster almost looked like a carbon copy of her brothers, or at least Jamie. They shared the same green eyes and coal black hair as their papá while Joseph had the same hair but chocolate brown eyes of their mamá; her older brothers also shared their mamá's ivory skin.

Jamie turned his head and grinned at Aster as she walked into the room. "Look who decided to join us."

Aster rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out. Walking over to the fridge, she opened it and grabbed some leftovers from the night before. She put them in her bag then turned to the kitchen table. Her mamá Natalia, papá Abril and abuelo Kane were sitting at the table, eating breakfast. While Aster looked like a carbon copy of her papá; same hair, skin and eyes, abuelo would say she gained her loving heart from her mamá which she wouldn't disagree with. Her mamá and papá would soon leave to open their restaurant that they owned downstairs while her abuelo would stay home. The man in question lifted his head and smiled softly at Aster.

"Morning darling," he greeted.

"Morning abuelo," she greeted back, leaning down to kiss him on the cheek.

Despite getting on in years, her abuelo looked good for his age, his ivory skin only having a few wrinkles, his brown eyes sparkling like they were still young and his brown hair only having a few flakes of grey peppered throughout.

Her papá began to fake pout. "Oh do we not get morning kisses?"

Aster chuckled. "Of course you do but abuelo always gets them first."

Abril continued to fake pout until Aster walked around the table and kissed him on the cheek. Natalia chuckled softly at Abril as Aster leaned down to kiss her cheek.

"Do you have your lunch?" Natalia asked.

"Yes mamá."

"Do you have your belongings?"

Aster sighed. "Yes mamá."

"I just want to make sure you have everything sweetheart."

"I know mamá."

Her mother leaned up and kissed her on the cheek. "Have a nice day."

Aster smiled. "I will."

Hoisting her bag onto her shoulder more, she made her way to the door. Any normal person would put on shoes before they exited a place but Aster didn't believe in shoes, they irritated her feet so she only wore them when absolutely necessary. Anyway, Aster opened the door, waved to her family and closed the door.
