Chapter Text
Eddie’s POV
He feels heavy. But at the same time, he feels like he’s floating in a void. He’s not sure if he’s alive or if this is some version of limbo. His brain feels like he’s hit the reset button and he’s finally gotten to the first command.
*Okay, Munson, you got to move,* he thinks as his senses begin to clear up.
His hearing seems to come back first as the buzzing melts away into steady beeping.
Next, he opens his eyes. He blinks a few times to try to clear his vision. Wherever he is, the lights are dim but they still make his eyes ache.
Ah, yes, aching. That’s something else. He aches. All over. He knows what a medicated state feels like so he is thankful it’s just an ache as he realizes it could be so much worse.
So much worse because his memories come back next and he remembers pain. The worst pain he’s ever felt in his life. He died. He knows he died.
But, the heart monitor, steadily beeping, says otherwise.
Beyond the aching, he feels the heaviness. Heaviness all around him. Radiating heat. And snoring in the cutest possible way.
Steve. His Steve.
Eddie smiles. Steve’s okay. He’s alive, which means so are the others he hopes. Steve’s somehow managed to curl up beside him in this tiny hospital bed. He’s got his arm wrapped around Eddie’s middle.
*C’mon, Eddie, move,* he thinks again. Slowly. Painfully slow, he moves his fingers, then lifts his arm. On the back of his hand and snaking up his arm are several angry, ugly scars.
Scars?
How long has he been out?
He slowly moves and begins stroking Steve’s hair.
“Steve,” he tries to say but his throat is so dry, his mouth feels like sand with his tongue heavy inside.
But it was enough. Steve begins to stir, nuzzling into Eddie like they were at home. He almost purrs against the skin of Eddie’s neck before Eddie feels him freeze. Steve shoots up, eyes wide, a smile slowly cutting across his unshaven face.
“Baby?”
Eddie smiles, “Hey, Princess. What’d I miss?”
