Chapter Text
Aemond jolted at the landing of Vhagar, remaining still for a few more moments listening to the dragon settle within her nest. Rain pelted down around the dragon’s pit, the sound echoing within the open chamber.
“My Prince.” one of the attendees called. “The Queen Dowager wishes to speak to you.”
“I will see her in a few moments, I wish to change.” Aemond slid from Vhagar, glancing back at the dragon who settled to sleep. Sounds of bone breaking ringing into his ears.
“She has requested-”
“I will see her, after I have changed!” Aemond yelled, his raised voice grasped the attention of everyone. Loud outbursts of anger were only heard from his brother in the Red Keep. His chest heaved with anger, rising and falling in deep shaggy breaths.
Quickly escaping the dragon pit and his dragon, he wound through the halls and back passageways to find himself outside of her door. When he entered, he found her wake sitting by the window, her hand tracing the rain as it fell on the stain glass. His back to her hand still on the handle, he felt himself begin to shake slightly for the first time since hearing the dragon snap in half…along with his nephew.
“Death came with the rain tonight.” Helaena walked over to him slowly. He heard her night dress against the stone.
“I didn’t…Vhagar she…I said no.” Her hand reached his elbow, pulling softly for him to face her. Removing his patch, the sapphire glistened in what light still remained in her chambers. “I didn’t want to kill him.” Aemond looked scared, his hand shaking while he reached for her wrist. “I just…I wanted his eye, his eye for an eye.”
“Aemond-” He pulled her into himself.
“I don’t want a prophecy from you.” Helaena hugged him back, while he shook from the emotions, he allowed himself to feel since the death of his nephew.
“It is war then?” She asked.
“With fire and blood.” He whispered back, kissing the top of her head, he held her face longingly. His one eye was red from tears. Helaena traced his brow bone above the sapphire, the gem had always been her favorite. “I didn’t listen.” He shook his head. “I didn’t…” She pressed lightly against his lips, a soft kiss he placed to her fingertips.
“The night is dark, and the dawn will be darker.” Helaena gripped his hand tightly. “The rain will not stop for a while.”
“Don’t forsake me.” Aemond whispered, gazing into her eyes. “I am the monster they have always dreamed of me being.”
“You are a dragon.” She reasoned, placing a kiss on the palm of his hand. Aemond knew her gaze, had drifted to seeing more unwanted dreams and nightmares, the future not yet foretold.
