Chapter Text

Pear had lost control of her mortal body; she was now merely a watcher watching the monster that was her body cause havoc. She wanted to stop it, to intertwine, she had tried and it never worked.

She could only watch in terror as her body attack innocent people, as her body attacked Gem. She tried to tear her eyes away, but it didn’t work, her eyes were stuck, she couldn’t even blink. She didn’t want to look; it made her sick, watching as her body tore Gem apart; creating a huge cavern in Gem’s chest.

She watched Cleo run towards Gem throwing herself beside her as Pearl’s body was surrounded by police officers. Guns pointing at the monster, they shot her body, till it was too week to stand. They surrounded her body with chains, throwing the beast in the back of a truck.

She watched the truck drive on the highway, she watched as her body thrashed against the restraints, screaming and wheeping its lungs dry.

She heard the muffled sound of the police officer’s talking and the sound of her own screeching.
“What do you think it is?” one of them asked.

“I dunno know, probably some sort of lizard thing” the other responded with a ‘I don’t really give a fuck’ tone to their voice.

Gem’s eyes fluttered open. vision blurred and head pounding she looked around. She was laying in a bed in the middle of a clean white room -what she presumed to be a hospital room.

Her chest ached as she turned to sit up, but pushed through the pain, her vision becoming more significantly blurred as she stood up. One goal clear in her mind; she had to find Pearl.

As she began to stumble toward the door her arm snagged on the IV connected to it. She continued to stumble, not paying attention to it, the IV ripping out leaving a small stream of blood oozing down her arm.

She busted through the door, slamming into it with her whole body wight. Stumbling out of the doorway; she looked around, blurred faces were looking back at her, calling for her? (She couldn’t make out what they said) what she assumed were doctors running up to her.

She looked back and forth; there were two corridors, two options. The first was shorter and split of at the end but was crowded with doctors(?) who would stop her, the second a long straight line she couldn’t see the end of, but with less people. It wasn’t really the optimal situation to be in but the second one it was.

Stumbling down the hall her hearing started to clear, she could make out some of the shouts of:

“Excuse me!”

Come back here!” and

“STOP!”

But one specific voice stood out to her, a familiar voice she recognized as Cleo’s.

“Gem stop! what are you even doing”

Gem stopped, unsure what to do, her goal to find pearl seeping away from her drowsy mind. She turned around searching for Cleo’s face. But she couldn’t make it out in the sea of blur that swayed ever so slightly side to side.

Turning on her heal gem continued to make her way down the corridor, she still needed to find….someone(?).She was stopped as a pair of arms wrapped around her in a thigh hug from behind. She strained her neck to look at their face but could only see a lock of fiery red hair, her peripheral vison gone completely blurred.

“Welcome to the job, kid” a cheery voice said, muffled by the thick metal door.

“Uh…thanks” another more unsure voice answered

Pearl tried to see them but it seamed like she was bound to her body again; she didn’t feel back to normal. she definitely didn’t look normal; her arms and legs were still shimmery lilac with dark blue feathers and her hands with long razor-sharp claws covered in blood.

At least the restraints were gone. Pearl couldn’t really recall the events that happened between being in the trunk of a van and ending up in some sort of cell (?). maybe she lost herself completely, and that’s why she’s still the monster.

She tried listening to the conversation going on outside but it had ended. The only thing she could hear now was muffled junk of conversations going on further away and…heavy breathing.

The breath slowed till she almost couldn’t hear it and then the door was pushed open. In walked a tall figure, with short jet-black hair and a pretty impressive moustache to match. they wore a grey suit with a pristine white lab coat over it.

They cleared their voice. Standing quite unconformably hunched, holding their clipboard close to their chest like they were afraid (they probably were too be fair, she was a monster after all).

“h-hello I’m just here to ask you a couple questions- that is if you can even speak….or have a conscience” they said that last bit more to themselves.

Pearl thought for a moment, tried to speak, say anything but the words caught in her throat. Feeling like an irritating cough, like the one where you feel like your throat is being torn apart from the inside but you can’t make it stop, no matter how hard you try.

She was desperately trying to speak, to make a single sound, she could barely breath anymore.

Maybe the guy could see her trying, because they waited, they sat down on the ground and waited.

And for a moment it was almost peaceful, every sound around them diapering, the only thing audible being their slow and steady breath and her own a little more uneven one.

But the moment couldn’t last forever as she began to hear screams and shouts from outside, frantic footsteps running as blood splattered on the little window in the door.
