Chapter Text

George and Dream held Sapnap’s hands all the way to their car, both of them intermittently giving Sapnap’s hands little squeezes, as if to remind themselves that Sapnap was still there with them. They walked in silence, all of them still processing what had happened. The car was parked close, so it wasn’t a long walk, but even still, Sapnap was shivering by the time they reached it.

“Are you cold?” Dream asked as they got to the car, he opened the back door for Sapnap, letting him slide in. George let go of Sapnap’s hand to enter the back seat from the other side so that he could sit next to him. Dream still held Sapnap’s hand tight.

“I don’t think I’m cold?” Sapnap said, still shivering, “I mean, it’s the middle of summer, I shouldn’t be cold, I’m just shivering,” Sapnap said, shrugging his shaky shoulders.

“God, you two. Sapnap, you’re in shock. Just relax back and I’m going to put a blanket on you, then I’m going to put my healing powers to work a bit,” George said softly, already unfolding a blanket that Sapnap hadn’t seen him pull out.

“I’m gonna go to the driver’s seat now Sap, I’ll still be right there though, if you need anything, alright?” Dream asked, giving Sapnap’s hand a small squeeze before he let go, making sure Sapnap was fully in the car before closing the door.

The second that the door closed, George reached over Sapnap to do up his seatbelt for him and then covered him in the blanket. Sapnap was sure now that he must have a concussion. Nothing that was happening right now made sense. George tucked the blanket in around Sapnap and then buckled himself into the middle seat, pulling Sapnap’s head to rest on his shoulder.

“Hmm?” Sapnap asked, wondering what was going on and why George had positioned him like this, but not having the energy to say it.

“Just stay there, idiot,” George said fondly, his hand coming up to run his fingers through Sapnap’s hair. Sapnap felt a warmth start to slowly flow through his body, coming from George’s hand and his shoulder.

“So that’s what healing feels like,” Sapnap mumbled out, the warm feeling made it hard to speak clearly.

Dream snorted from the driver’s seat and Sapnap slowly tilted his head to look at the front of the car, making eye contact with Dream’s soft eyes in the rear-view mirror. Oh, they were moving already, when did that happen?

“Just close your eyes and relax, you need to let your body recuperate,” George said, brushing his thumb under Sapnap’s sore eye and down his cheek before returning his hand to Sapnap’s hair once more.

“Mmkay,” Sapnap mumbled, closing his eyes and giving in to the relaxation taking over his body.

After a short while, Sapnap’s thoughts became clearer and his mind started trying to process everything that had happened today. He had gone from being heartbroken about Dream and George not wanting to be friends with him, to being attacked and kidnapped, to being held hostage as an attempt to hurt his friends, to being saved by those same friends, to now being in a car surrounded by proof that the first thing that happened to him today was a lie that his mind had told him. Dream and George did actually care about him, and they hadn’t been avoiding him on purpose. It almost sounded too good to be true after the day he’d had.

And speaking of Dream and George, what the hell was going on with them? Like, Sapnap understood that they were worried about him, worried that their friend was in trouble, but some of the things they had done tonight made no sense. Obviously them telling him that they loved him, over and over again was just to compensate for how distant they had been lately mixed with the fear that they could have lost one of their best friends. That part made sense. Sapnap had realized at some point during the fight that he had been wrong about them not caring about him anymore, and they had always told each other I love you platonically. That was just how their friendship worked.

But Sapnap was pretty sure that Dream had kissed his head when they were hugging after the fight. He hadn’t really processed it in the moment, due to the shock of the whole day hitting him as the adrenaline drained from his body, but now that he was thinking back, he could kind of remember the feeling of Dream’s mouth pushing into his hair. What was that all about? Sure, they had always been close, and their friendship always been a bit more physically affectionate than one typical for guys their age, but Dream had never kissed him before. Then again, they had all just gone through a traumatic experience together. Dream probably just felt the need to be closer to Sapnap, to do something he had never done before to make sure that what was happening was real.

And what was with George? Sapnap had never seen George cry before, but tonight? Well, that made sense when he looked at it. This whole situation was probably really stressful for George and Dream. They were worried that Sapnap was dead . So the crying made sense. Especially because George had made it clear that he did love Sapnap and that he cared about their friendship. And then there’s what is happening right now. George and Sapnap had never been as physically affectionate with each other as Dream and Sapnap were. But George was also using his healing powers right now. He probably needed to have some form of contact to make them work. That explained the hand running through his hair, the shoulder under his cheek, and the head resting against his. Wait… when had George put his head there? Whatever, it didn’t matter, there was warmth spreading there too.

So that explains it all! Dream and George were both just worried they lost their best friend and they were now overcompensating to make sure that he was safe and healthy. They loved Sapnap, and they were all still best friends, and everything was right with the world. But what had George meant by, ‘we’ve got a lot of explaining to do’ then? Sapnap twitched slightly in George’s hold and suddenly the warmth flowing through George increased and Sapnap couldn’t keep his thoughts straight anymore. The last thought that floated through his head before he fell asleep was that they had probably just wanted to explain how work was overbooking them. He couldn’t help but think that it didn’t matter anymore, they were all together now.

Sapnap woke up to the feeling of being picked up by large hands, “What are you doing?” he grumbled out, his words slurred from the sleep still heavy on his brain.

The hands adjusted him again, one arm going to support his legs while the other gently guided his head into a neck, “You can go back to sleep Sap, we just got home,” Dream rumbled under Sapnap’s ear.

Sapnap felt the call of sleep in the back of his mind, weirdly enough coming from exactly where Dream’s hand was… wait! Dream’s hand! “Don’t use your fucking sleep powers on me, asshole,” Sapnap slurred out. Immediately the sleepy feeling receded.

“Sorry,” Dream said sheepishly, “I just wanted to make sure you got enough sleep,”

“Is that why you’re carrying me?” Sapnap asked, slowly opening his eyes to look at Dream’s cheek. He still couldn’t quite lift his head up.

“Well, um, that and George got to sit with you the whole way here. It’s my turn to be with you,” Dream said. If it wasn’t so dark out, Sapnap would swear that Dream’s cheek turned a little pink at his confession.

Sapnap giggled and hid his head in Dream’s neck, “Alright, idiot, but let me down when we get into the house,”

“Hmm, no, I don’t think he will,” George said from behind him. It was only then that Sapnap realized they had been walking to the door. Maybe he was a little bit more out of it than he thought he was. George opened the door for them, letting them into the house before closing the door and locking it behind him. The second that Dream knew the door was locked, he headed towards his and George’s bedroom.

“Guys, I’m literally fine. Dream, you can put me down now,” Sapnap said, resting his chin on Dream’s shoulder and looking at George as he followed right behind them.

Dream pulled Sapnap closer into him as he walked through the house, “Don’t care, I’m not letting you go,” he mumbled, holding Sapnap even closer to him, which Sapnap didn’t know was possible at this point.

“Sapnap, you could have died today,” George said, reaching up and stroking his thumb gently under Sapnap’s bruised eye. Sapnap immediately felt some more pain relief from George’s powers. George’s powers were such an odd combination: healing, electric shock, and some others that Sapnap had never been able to give a name to.

Sapnap scoffed, “He wasn’t actually going to kill me,” he said, rolling his eyes and relaxing his head further into Dream’s broad shoulder.

“You can’t know that for certain,” George said annoyed, passing Dream to open the door to their room so that Dream wouldn’t have to let go of Sapnap.

“Oh my god, dramatic much,” Sapnap said as Dream sat him on the edge of their bed. Sapnap had about five seconds between being set on the edge of the bed and Dream crawling around behind him, pulling Sapnap to sit between his legs and resting his head on Sapnap’s shoulder. Once again Sapnap was surrounded in Dream’s embrace. Sapnap couldn’t help but smile at Dream’s clinginess. It felt nice to be cared for like this for once.

George went to their bathroom, grabbing the first aid kit and returning to kneel in front of Sapnap, starting to patch him up, “Sapnap, I don’t think either of us would ever forgive ourselves if something bad happened to you because of what we do,” George said, cleaning the cut on Sapnap’s eyebrow and radiating his healing powers out. Sapnap had to fight himself to keep awake.

“It’s not like I’m your responsibility or something, you shouldn’t have to worry about me. I can handle myself,” Sapnap mumbled out, his words slurring together as he sank more into the comfort surrounding him. Dream’s warmth at his back, George’s healing rays at his front, the soft bed underneath him. Thankfully Dream had stopped with the sleep powers, because Sapnap would definitely have just passed right out if he hadn’t.

“It has nothing to do with us thinking we have a responsibility to you. We know that you can, for the most part, handle yourself fine. It’s us, Sapnap, we can’t live without you ,” Dream said, pulling Sapnap closer into his chest and burying his face in Sapnap’s neck.

George pulled away to put back the first aid kit. His sudden departure (and the sudden departure of the healing powers) snapped Sapnap out of the little bubble of relaxation he had been drifting in. Sapnap immediately sat up a bit taller and tried to get up off the edge of their bed. As reassured as he was in his place in their friendship, it still felt a bit weird for him to be on their bed. Plus, he had a long day. All he wanted right now was to go home and sleep.

Dream let out a pitiful whine and tightened his grip on Sapnap at his attempt to escape, “No,” he pouted, Sapnap could feel Dream shaking his head against his shoulder as he refused to let go.

“Dream, come on. You guys took care of me, I’m all fixed up now. It’s time for me to go home,” Sapnap said, still attempting to get up. Dream’s grip only tightened.

“You are not going back to your house tonight,” Dream said, “I need to have you here , we need to talk ,” Dream said, almost desperately.

“I know you guys said we have things to talk about, but shouldn’t we like, wait, and have a sleep first? I’ll go and sleep in the living room, if you don’t want me to leave, and we can talk in the morning,” Sapnap said, once again trying to get off of the bed as George walked out of the bathroom. Sapnap shot him a pleading look, hoping George would be able to reason with his boyfriend and get him to let go.

It’s not that Sapnap was uncomfortable. This was actually probably the most comfortable that he had ever been in his life, but he knew his brain would convince him that Dream and George’s actions tonight meant more than they did if he stayed. That Dream and George weren’t just saving him because he was their best friend, but because they were in love with him, or something crazy like that.

“Nope!” George said stubbornly, “You’re staying right here, with us!” he chirped, flopping down onto the bed and patting the spot beside him.

“Guys, I’m all bloody, and sweaty, and I smell . You don’t want me in your bed,” Sapnap protested, one last attempt to protect his heart before he was pushed off the deep end. He knew his stupid feelings wouldn’t be able to handle laying between them, in their bed. Even though he knew that all they wanted was to be close to him, their friend who they had almost lost tonight.

Dream ignored Sapnap and pulled him back with him as he went to lay down beside George, placing Sapnap right in the middle. Sapnap was helpless against Dream’s genetically increased strength (it wasn’t quite super strength, but he was definitely stronger than he should have been).

“Sapnap,” Dream said softly, hooking his chin over Sapnap’s shoulder, “We almost lost you today,” Dream said quietly, “If I had my way, I would never let go of you again,”

Sapnap blushed, “You don’t really mean that, it’s just… post-fight adrenaline or something, come on you guys,” Sapnap bargained, “You’re going to start giving me the wrong idea, you know. You’re practically begging me to sleep with you, and I know you don’t love me that way,” he tried to tease them. Maybe that would snap them out of it.

Dream inhaled sharply in Sapnap’s ear, letting out a quiet noise of discontent and tightening his grip, pulling Sapnap even closer into his chest.

George whipped his head to the side from where he was staring at the ceiling to make eye contact with Sapnap, “There is no way you are this stupid,” he said disbelievingly, bringing his left hand up to gently stroke Sapnap’s face, “Sapnap, we told you, we love you,”

“Yeah, as friends -” Sapnap started, just to be cut off by George.

“No. We are in love with you. We’ve been in love with you. We’ve been trying to date you for like three months, but you always thought we just wanted to hang out and then the agency kept overbooking us and it was a mess! ” George said, exasperated.

Sapnap’s jaw dropped. There was no way that was true. He whipped his head back to look at Dream, being met with Dream’s own exasperated gaze, “Those were supposed to be dates?” Sapnap asked semi-desperately, trying to look back and forth between Dream and George while still being trapped against Dream’s chest.

Dream gaped at Sapnap, “You didn’t know?! How did you not know?” he cried out.

“Of course I didn’t know Dream! How could I have known? You guys are dating, so I figured you were both off limits. You also never called them dates when you asked me to join? Except for when you asked me to tag along on your dates with each other. And neither of you told me that you were, like, romantically in love with me,” Sapnap paused to take a breath, “Oh my god that's why you kept trying to invite me to your date nights?” Sapnap asked with red cheeks.

“That’s why you kept refusing to come? You thought you were going to be third wheeling us?” George asked, turning on his side to look at Sapnap with wide eyes, “I’m so sorry Sap. I thought we were being very clear with our intentions,” he said, moving closer to bury himself in Sapnap’s chest, wrapping his arms around Sapnap’s waist.

“God you’re such an idiot,” Dream muttered, cuddling into Sapnap and pressing a kiss against the back of his neck, “I love you- I’m in love with you , you idiot,”

Sapnap’s face burned at Dream’s admission, “I love you too, Dreamie,” he said, snuggling back into Dream and looking at George with wide eyes.

“Of course I’m in love with you as well, nimrod,” George said, rolling his eyes before tucking his head back into Sapnap’s chest, placing his hand on top of Dream’s and wrapping his leg over both Dream and Sapnap’s hips.

Sapnap smiled giddily, pressing a kiss into George’s soft hair, “I love you too Georgie,” he said, pulling George in close and finally relaxing into the mattress, content to be wrapped up in the ones he loves (and George’s healing powers, holy shit, how did those work so well?).

“Sleep well, my loves,” Dream said quietly. Sapnap felt butterflies rise in his stomach at the pet name, before Dream wrapped his arm over both him and George and the world around them faded into soft dreams full of warmth, hugs, and love.
