Chapter 12: The End

Summary:

I'm sorry, and thank you.

Notes:

I wrote the night when his graduation was announced, but wanted to wait until after Fuuchan streamed his thoughts on it.

If you found this fic much after this last update, I am sorry things ended this way. And for those of you who keep up with this fic, thank you always. I'm always so grateful for your feedback on To The Top.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

--

Hello reader,

Today, just a few hours before initially writing this, Yugo Asuma has graduated.

It's been heartbreaking; Yugo had always inspired me in my art, my language learning, my singing, even my writing. Regardless of the circumstances of his graduation-turned-execution, I only wish we got to say goodbye properly.

And unfortunately, with his graduation, I will be ending this series.

(As always, thank you for the love for this story. My explanation as to why I'm ending this series is in the notes.)

Take care,

see you in the next tune.

Notes:

To The Top was an unplanned amalgamation of words that I had begun to practice creative writing in the summer.

I made it a Band Fic because it suited Noctyx so much as a found-family. Yugo's character in this story was written as the delinquent, rowdy singer, who had long lost his passion for music before joining Noctyx. While Alban was written as the technical "main protagonist," Yugo would still be playing a huge role in the story-- his story was about finding hope. I wanted him to be the one to uncover the secrets of Luxiem, to fight with Sonny over music and passion, to lose his passion once more before Regionals only for it to come back at full force during the competition. And for a while, this was the plan.

Yet, with the announcement of his graduation, I no longer feel comfortable writing about someone who is no longer here as Yugo Asuma. These fics have always been built off of my love for livers and their content. I do not feel capable of writing a work based on the *memory* of someone I loved to watch. I'd rather not write a story and have my heart ache every time I wrote about my favorite DJ. While it's definitely a little dramatic, it's just how I feel right now. Noctyx will always be five, yet I do not want to write about an inactive liver because it just makes me stressed and sad and makes me miss them more. He was seriously someone I watched all the time and a liver I truly loved.

So with that, To the Top will be discontinued. I am really grateful for all of your support towards this crazy mashup of my first Noctyx fic that clearly holds poor writing and inconsistent plots. My schedule will only get busier, and I don't ever want to feel burdened in writing something I love. However, I still wish to continue writing Operation: Psyborg and future NijiEN fics, so maybe you'll see those sometime soon. And who knows? Maybe I'll bite my words and come back to this fic. But really, I'm sorry if you've enjoyed this fic a lot so far; I hope to write something new when things get a little better. (And there are so many other lovely fics on here to read.)

The news of the 'graduation' was tough to NijiEN, Yuguys, fans of the company, and those who've already watched livers graduate in this fashion. So, take care! Losing Yugo means a lot of different things to everyone. In the meantime, I'll write something new and fresh soon enough, and I hope our DJ's doing well.

They've always been so much more than an entertainer for so many of us.
