Chapter Text
The email was from Eraserhead, though the address was his civilian name, Shouta Aizawa. The email was about possible places and times for them to meet so that Gon could get the results.
They decided to email back that Gon would meet him at a café near UA the next day. As much as Killua wanted to go and Gon wanted him to come, they needed to get used to being apart again.
It was difficult after having spent just about every minute together over the last year. It certainly didn't help that they had been through so much. And if all went according to plan, UA would eventually move the students into dorms.
Gon and Killua would both wear masks when they were doing villain work, of course, but they still had to be careful.
The next morning, Gon was up early in order to be there on time, Killua getting up with him. The pair were both filled with anxiety, partially because of the meeting and partially because they would be separate.
Gon left early, wanting to get it done sooner rather than later. He got to the café ten to fifteen minutes early. He had brought the shared phone with him, just in case.
To his surprise, the hero was already there, sitting at one of the tables with a rat-bear looking thing next to him. "Hello, I assume you're Mr. Freecs?" The rat-thing asked.
Gon was caught off guard, "Y-Yes, though please just call me Gon, I don't really like who my name represents."
"I see. You must be confused, my name is Nezu and I am UA High's principal. Please take a seat."
"Oh- okay. How come you're here? Don't you have more important stuff to do than meet with me?"
"Well when somebody sends the 0 Pointer flying the way you did, I take it upon myself to meet with them. How exactly did you do that? And where's your friend that seems to always be with you, according to Aizawa?"
"I used my quirk to send it flying, did I hit it too hard? I didn't want to hit it too hard because I didn't want to destroy too many buildings."
"You weren't using your full strength?" The principal leaned forwards in his seat, clearly intrigued, his eyebrows raising.
"Well I almost did, another reason I didn't was because I was starting to get tired after having destroyed all those robots and running that far."
"Interesting…. And your friend?"
"Oh, well, if I get into UA, we won't be able to spend as much time together, so we decided I'd go by myself," Gon was obviously fidgety now that his friend had been mentioned.
"I can tell you that you certainly got in, how could we refuse when you scored so high on the practical exam? I'll admit, you could have done better on the written one, but you'll learn as time goes on. And if you don't mind me asking; I heard that your friend seemed injured, how's he doing?"
"He's doing fine," Gon was starting to clam up. Now they had less of a chance of getting information. "Just a graze to him considering his-" Gon cut himself off.
He almost shared something he definitely shouldn't. Now he was going to get questioned.
"Well I'm glad to hear he's doing okay. I don't believe we have anything else to say, do you?" Nezu asked the man sitting next to him.
"I don't believe so, no," the hero replied. "Though call me Mr. Aizawa from now on."
"Okay! Is it okay for me to go now?" Gon asked.
"Don't forget this," Mr. Aizawa said as he handed an envelope and a package to Gon. "You can leave now."
"Okay, bye!" Gon called as he walked out of the building. He rushed home as quickly as he could, excited to open the envelope and package.
He was nearing home when he picked up Killua's scent. It kept moving back and forth. He was pacing. He almost never paced. He was definitely stressed, but this was something they needed to get used to.
As much as he hated the idea, Gon decided he would wait a little longer before he got any closer. He didn't want Killua to be too stressed, but they needed to be able to spend about six hours apart everyday if he got in.
And he was pretty sure he did if the package was anything to go by.
He waited somewhere between five and ten minutes and then he started walking as silently as he could. He was somewhat close when Kilua's scent started getting closer.
It was coming at him rapidly. That meant Killua either smelled him, heard him, or just sensed his presence. All three options were entirely possible. Once he got there, Killua launched himself at Gon.
He refused to leave his side for the next forty-five minutes. Gon didn't have as much anxiety, though he still did have some. He knew that Killua's anxiety was related to the incident with the Nen contract.
They still had yet to tell Dabi and Himiko about that. The timing just never felt right. They also decided that they were likely never going to tell them purposely about Killua trying to kill himself.
The envelope held a letter of acceptance and the package had two school uniforms.
One day a few weeks later when Gon was wandering the city, trying to distract himself while he and Killua worked on spending time apart, he got to the other abandoned area of town.
There he saw a boy around his age with green hair close in age to him up on a roof. Gon hopped up to the top of the nearest building as quickly as he could, but he was too late.
The boy jumped off the roof. Gon got to where he was right after he hit the ground. Gon didn't really know what to do. He saw the rise and fall of the boy's chest, so that meant he was alive.
He did the only thing he could think of, he called Killua. Maybe Dabi or Himiko would know what to do if Killua didn't. The phone didn't even ring once when Killua picked it up.
" What's wrong? Did something happen? "
"I'm on the other side of town in the abandoned area, near the old convenience store we got hair dye from before. I- a boy about our age just jumped from a roof, he's barely breathing," Gon was barely keeping his composure, that much was obvious.
" I'll be right there, should I bring Dabi and Himiko? "
"Please do, Dabi has a lot more medical experience than either of us, no offense."
" Don't worry about that right now, " there were loud footsteps. Probably Killua running. " We need to go. Like now, " Killua spoke presumably to their friends.
There were muffled voices on the other end but they quickly went silent. " What happened? " Killua asked after telling one of them to go get the medical supplies.
"I- I don't know, I was walking when I saw a boy with green hair kinda like mine on a roof. I tried to get over there but I wasn't quick enough. He fell backwards like I did when we were running from Mr. Aizawa on the day of the exam."
" Okay, we're leaving now. I'll be there first with the medical supplies, Himiko and Dabi will be a little bit longer since they have to go where nobody will see them. "
"Oka- IT LOOKS LIKE HE'S HEALING OR SOMETHING!" Gon cut himself off as he yelled suddenly.
" What do you mean? "
"I mean he's healing! His wounds are closing and his breathing is getting less shallow. Hey, are you okay? Do you know who you are?" Gon asked the boy.
"Wh-who?" The boy started coughing as he tried to speak.
"Don't try talking just yet. Just nod or shake your head, can you handle that?" The boy nodded. "My friend will be here soon, try to hang on a little longer. Do you remember who you are?"
Another nod.
" Is he responding? "
"Yes, are you almost here?"
" I'm about a block away, I'm gonna hang up, " the phone cut off. Killua appeared a few moments later. "It does look like he's healing…"
"I told you! He'll be fully healed by the time the others get here at this rate."
"What do you mean 'healed'?" The boy asked, his voice extremely raspy. He was confused when the two that accompanied him just stared at each other.
The two talked with their eyes for a minute before Gon's tail started wagging. This confused the boy further. "Who- who are you?"
"Oh! I'm Gon, this is Killua. Our friends should be here soon. From what we can tell by looking at you, you have some sort of healing quirk or something of the sort."
"But that's impossible!"
"What do you mean?" Killua asked, stepping ever so slightly in front of Gon when the boy started to display some hostility.
"I'm supposed to be quirkless! There's no way I have a quirk! Nevermind a healing one! There isn't any history of healing quirks in my family!"
"Calm down kid, we'll figure this out, for now we just need your name. We won't bring you to the heroes."
"I can't go back! I can't deal with them anymore!"
"We won't make you do anything, I swear on the Zoldyck name- wait, that doesn't mean much here, does it?" Killua turned and looked at Gon.
"Well based on the fact that nobody here knows your family, no it doesn't."
"Back to what I was saying, I swear on the most powerful family name where we come from that we won't make you do anything you aren't okay with. We've both had plenty of that," the two shared a knowing look.
"You really won't?"
"For the last time, we won't! Now can you give us your name?"
"Midoriya. Izuku Midoriya."
"Right, I forgot that people introduce themselves by their last name here. Like I said, I'm Gon and this is Killua. Seems like Himiko and Dabi are almost here."
"Isn't Dabi the name of a villain?"
"He's harmless unless you give him a reason to act otherwise, so please don't worry. We're over here!" Gon called out to his friends when he could hear them nearby.
There was the sound of footsteps as the two came running towards the voice. They were there quickly, and seemed surprised by the sight in front of them.
"I thought you said he was barely breathing?" Dabi asked, giving Gon a quizzical look.
"Well he was. Turns out he likely has a healing quirk or immortality quirk or something of that sort. It's okay, we won't hurt you," Gon reassured the other green-haired boy in front of him when he noticed how anxious he was.
"O-Okay, I mean if I could survive that fall I kinda doubt that much can really be done to me."
"What would you prefer we call you? Izuku, Midoriya, or do you have a nickname?"
"Well I'm going to assume that you want me to join you?" He waited for a small nod from Killua before continuing. "Then call me Izuku but have my villain name be Deku. What's the grand plan here?"
"We'll talk about that at home. Speaking of that, where's he gonna sleep? I don't think we have another bedroom," Gon asked, looking at Dabi along with Himiko and Killua.
"Guess it's time for the surprise," Dabi sighed half-heartedly. "I found somewhere new for us to stay. We can stay at both but this new place is decently sized."
"Yay! I've been wondering when you were gonna get a new place!" Himiko's arms shot up in the air in celebration.
"How far is it from our current place?" Gon asked, his tail giving away how excited he was. Killua had to step away to avoid constantly getting hit in the leg.
"You'll see. Now then, it looks like you're pretty well healed, shall we get going?"
Izuku nodded, Gon moving to help him up, his tail finally calmer. Killua had to stifle a laugh at Gon's concentration on trying to keep his tail still. "Let's go!" Himiko started to skip ahead.
Gon laughed a little and Dabi looked at her with a familiarly affectionate look on his face. It was clear to Izuku that these four were close.
The group headed off, Gon and Killua making sure Izuku didn't fall as they walked. Killua held his tail up behind Izuku while Gon had his arm out in front.
Everyone but Dabi was surprised when they were led to a warehouse.
"You bought a warehouse?!" Gon asked, once again excited. "It's so big! I bet there's plenty of room for when we get more people and everything!"
"That was the idea," Dabi responded. He pulled a key from his pocket and unlocked the door, swinging it open to reveal the interior. It looked like someone had tried to turn the warehouse into an office or apartment building.
There was a main room that was easily twice the size of their current one. Gon ran off once he made sure Izuku was sitting.
"Hey! Wait up!" Killua called as he looked at Gon running with something that nobody could quite put a name to before running after him. At least nobody but Dabi.
The signs were becoming more and more obvious, it was a miracle that Gon hadn't caught on yet, and if he had he wasn't showing any signs of it. Either Gon was completely oblivious or was good at acting like it.
It could be both as well, since Gon seemed to have a habit of doing that. He would be oblivious but at the same time aware of everything and act like he wasn't.
It was as fascinating as it was frustrating.
Killua quickly caught up to Gon and the two ran around the massive building, looking in every room. This place had a ton of room, which was perfect, especially if they were planning on having more members in the future.
Unsurprisingly, neither was out of energy by the time they had run around the whole building and back through to the others. It did surprise Izuku however.
"How are you two not out of breath?"
" Lots of training. We picked out a room, it's one of the ones that has its own bathroom," Gon said, still excited about the idea of moving to a bigger place.
"I kinda thought that you two would be tired of sharing a room by now," Himiko commented, putting her finger to her chin.
"We've been sharing a room for such a long time now that it would feel wrong if we didn't! Though I guess we'd have to get used to not sharing a room anymore if all goes according to plan."
"That reminds me, we haven't told Izuku here what our plan is yet, huh?" Killua looked at Gon who smiled brighter than the sun. Izuku had always been told his smile was like that, but he doubted he could hold a candle.
"Oh yeah! So the grand plan is to rewrite this society, abusers are allowed to stay in power, and supposed 'heroes' aren't actually all that great. Dabi knows this better than anyone," Gon gestured over to Dabi.
"I guess you could say that, though we'll tell you more about that later on. As much as we all hate secrecy, I'm afraid we can't tell you much until we know more about you and that we surely can trust you."
"I understand and respect that. Something I think might be helpful is that I have a talent for analysis. I used to spend hours on end analyzing heroes. Their strengths, weaknesses, compatibility with other heroes, you name it."
"Okay then, name each of Endeavor's kids and their quirks," Dabi challenged.
"The youngest is Shoto Todoroki. Quirk: Half-Cold Half-Hot. The second youngest is Natsuo Todoroki. Quirk: Frost. Second oldest is Fuyumi Todoroki. Quirk: Frost. The oldest is Touya Todoroki. Deceased. Quirk: Blueflame."
"God, I haven't heard that name in a while. Incorrect, Touya Todoroki is not dead."
"But- but the news articles all say that he passed during a quirk accident-"
"He's standing right in front of you," Dabi cut him off before he could ramble on about how Touya Todoroki was dead. "Though I suppose that they got something right. That day was the day Touya died, as well as the day Dabi was born."
"Did- did you fake your death or something along those lines?"
"Bingo! Guess what's for dinner guys! You get something special since we got a new member!"
"Katsudon?!" Himiko, Killua, and Gon all yelled in sync.
"Hit the nail on the head!"
"AW HELL YEAH!" Killua yelled loudly, startling Izuku.
"It feels like forever since we've had some! Do we have the stuff or should I go to the store?" Gon's tail was wagging yet again.
"We have enough for tonight, but we won't have much left so a trip to the store is probably a good idea. Why don't you bring Izuku with you? Get to know each other more."
"Sure! Are you gonna come, Killua? And we need to get you some new clothes, those are all covered in blood," Gon told Izuku, who only then realized just how bad of a condition his clothes were in.
"Should I come? I mean we are supposed to be spending more time apart, especially since it's only another three weeks before school starts."
"I'm sure it'll be fine, right?" Gon asked Dabi and Himiko, getting nods in response. "To the store we go!" Gon said as he practically skipped over to Izuku, followed by Killua. "The list is at home?"
"Just get going already so he'll make dinner sooner!" Himiko whined. "The list is on the kitchen counter- don't forget the instant yakisoba!"
"We're going, we're going," Gon said as he helped Izuku up and out of the door, Killua close behind.
As the three were walking towards the old place, Gon and Killua realized that the warehouse was actually pretty close.
"Just out of curiosity, what led you two to becoming villains?" Killua looked at Gon, the two having a silent conversation. "And how do you do that? It looks like you're talking without talking."
The two stayed like that for a minute, Killua's tail swaying back and forth in annoyance. "Well Killua wouldn't be considered a hero here, and I couldn't just leave him!" Gon beamed.
"Shut up," Killua mumbled, looking away as his face turned red and his tail swayed even more. Izuku laughed lightly, earning a side eye from Killua.
