Chapter Text
It’s been a week since Harry was discharged, and each passing day makes Draco more and more restless. Harry had started remembering things – his breakup with Ginny, his fallout with Ron, that one mission that had gone so horribly wrong that Harry had to stay a week in the hospital and two more off duty. Hell he had even remembered that one conversation with Blaise where Blaise gave him very detailed advice on how to please someone when it came to bedroom related activities and Oh Merlin that had been one horrible conversation. Draco would obliviate himself if he could. That conversation did make their one month together a whole lot more interesting – Draco would rather die than to ever admit that to Blaise – but that was not the point.
The point was, something was wrong. Even Samuel and Hermione were getting worried now. Harry’s memories were returning like how Samuel had said they would, but none of those memories involved Draco and not for the lack of trying. Draco could see how much Harry was trying to remember what he had with Draco and then getting agitated when he couldn’t remember anything. It was like Draco Malfoy never existed in Harry Potter's life post receiving his letter to attend the eighth year at Hogwarts.
__________
"It might not really be a side effect of a messed up stray hex, like I'd initially thought" Healer Samuel explains on their next visit to Mungo's. Harry had initially planned to go alone, not wanting to take Draco away from his work but then Draco had insisted on coming along - "I quite literally work there, Harry." And then somehow Draco was there with Hermione, waiting for Harry outside Samuel's office.
"Someone deliberately did it so that I forget it, but then when I do start getting my memories back, I remember everything except Draco." Harry states very calmly. Samuel looks impressed by it.
"But why would they?" Mione starts, "What would anyone gain from making you forget Draco?" already deep in thoughts.
That appointment goes with trying to come up with all the possible hexes that might've been used with Samuel, Mione and Draco throwing up names of pretty much any and every memory-related curse that is there, before one of them suggests why it might not be that particular one. At least they manage to narrow down their list, but Samuel says that there is also a big possibility that it might be one of the old and ancient, long ago forgotten curses.
__________
"What was Ginerva's reaction to finding out about Harry's injury, Mione?" Pansy— long story— asks, while accepting the second cup of tea that Draco offers her. They've been at Draco's place since the appointment, and although Harry might've thought everything here would purely scream Draco , he can see his own touches here and there. He knows this place almost as much as his own. He even knows there is a pair of spare glasses in the second drawer of the bedside table on the left side. His side .
"You think it is Ginny?" Mione's quiet voice brings Harry out of his thoughts and Harry's afraid Parkinson might've offended Mione by suggesting something like this about her sister-in-law, but then Mione scoffs. "I don't think so, Pansy," she starts, "even though Ginny was born and brought up surrounded by magic, she isn't capable of using such a complex memory charm.
"Don't get me wrong Harry," she says looking right at Harry when he makes a little shocked noise, not because of what was said about Ginny, but merely because it was Mione who said it. "She is very good at the basic spells we were taught in school and even the defense spells we learnt in DA, but such a complex charm, I don't think so."
"Plus," Draco adds on, "why make Harry forget about just me if all she wanted was to get back with Harry? Why not make him forget everything including her whole scandal that led to Harry breaking up with her?" That's a very good point, Harry concludes — better than Mione's. Or maybe Harry is just biased, looking at Draco in the golden light of the setting sun on the horizon. Which, he tries to remember, when did it get so late?
Turns out Pansy is thinking the same thing, "I hate to cut this short, darlings, but I really need to get going." she says and seemingly Mione too agrees as she too checks her watch and gets ready to leave.
Harry should leave too, he knows. It's getting late and he needs to prepare dinner. Or maybe he can skip that and just order something in since he lives in a muggle area now.
"Would you like to stay for dinner?" Draco asks interrupting his thoughts. They're alone now. Harry wonders when Parrkinson and Mione left. Harry looks over to Draco and sees him getting a bit unsure with every passing second.
Harry should say yes since he didn't really have any special evening plans of his own. "I was actually thinking about ordering in." he says. Watching as Draco's face crumbles a little as he acceptinhly nods. "I'm down if you'd fancy ordering in some Chinese for dinner" he adds.
"Yeah" Draco says and and although Harry can't make out anything from Draco's face due to poor lighting, his voice almost sounds like a relieved sigh.
