Preludes to the War (Kaguya-sama love is war / Ishimiko)

Chapter 11: Mitama Tono Wants to Join

Summary:

A busy Culture Festival.

Notes:

I've read the official Ishigami Wants to Gift Short Story written by Aka Akasaka (You can find a translation here: https://pdfhost.io/v/oTkuOaPAM_Ishigami_Wants_to_Gift ), This would be the point of the fan fiction where the information in that Short Story is beginning to influence what I write, so be warned that from now on there could be plot points and ideas in this fan fiction that could be considered spoilers for that Story.

Chapter Text

Narrator: Last time we saw our student council, they were barely dealing with the storm of emotions from the Kita culture festival. Surely if a culture festival in another school was such a big deal, their second Shuchiin culture festival would have a huge impact in their lives?

Finally the Culture Festival arrived and,

NOTHING IMPORTANT HAPPENED!

Kogane: Sorry VicePrez, I know you were looking forward to read a new Doujin today, but I couldn’t think of anything.

Ishigami: Huh?

Kogane: It’s just that... I was so nervous about anything happening during the Culture Festival, that instead of getting ideas all I got was the urge to pay attention during it in order to get ideas from it. And I got nothing.

Well, I guess I shouldn’t bore you out with my inconsequential culture festival. I am sure you and Prez had a lot of moments then!

Ishigami (mumbling): Not really.

Kogane: Oh, what happened?

Ishigami (mumbling): For starters, we are not dating,

Ishigami: But additionally, it’s none of your business...

Ishigami (Monologue): After the Kita festival Iino and I didn’t really interact at all besides Student Council duties. I remember how last year, we had to stop our student council duties to help with the culture festival organization. But this time, I would say Iino was right about Onodera doing a great job with the organization, because they didn’t need any help from the student council.

Not like the council would have been able to help. This season was a real wake up call, we simply have one less member than President Shirogane’s student council, and it shows. The cat doesn’t count. We couldn’t tell last year, but The President’s duties related to the culture festival are incredibly heavy. We urgently need a new member.

So the truth of the matter regarding the Culture Festival is that it was far from being the perfect opportunity to do anything interesting.

Ishigami: That’s also not why I am here. I have to ask you about something.

Do you know what Iino is doing right now?

Kogane: No idea. I didn’t hear of any official meeting for the student council president today.

Ishigami:  She’s in a meeting with the club presidents and other VIPs. It’s about a serious, confidential matter and it wasn’t advertised. And I have to ask you about it. You said Mitama Tono is your friend, right?

Kogane: Mita-chan? She’s my best friend!

Ishigami: Are you aware of the rumors?

Kogane: I have no idea what you are talking about.

Ishigami (M): Iino got herself into a huge mess this time. But I remember this Tono character went with us to the Kita culture festival and I don’t think my first impression matches those rumors. However, if she’s one of Beret-san’s associates, that’s a cause of concern by itself.

Kogane: Well, I haven’t really interacted with her since that other day...

Narrator: A FLASHBACK TO BEFORE THE CULTURE FESTIVAL.

Please pay attention to this because it might be the only one you get. We are only showing this footage because it’s probably the only way to understand this weird situation!

Kogane: We should start our President Iino fanclub meeting by sharing ideas of romantic situations that could arise during the Culture Festival!

Mitama: Koga-chan... I thought that the whole President Iino fanclub stuff was a joke?

Kogane: But we are both the President’s fans!

Narrator: Mitama Tono is indeed President Iino’s fan, but Kogane misunderstands the situation greatly. Tono has no interest in sharing her...

Mitama: Well, Koga.chan, I did want to thank you for letting me go to the Kita culture festival with you. Even though I didn’t really have the chance to interact much with the President...

Kogane: Hah, don’t sweat it, plus I heard you helped the Vice President. That’s great!

Mitama (M): It was a failure, a complete failure.

My greatest fear is confirmed. It’s the Vice President. The Vice President is the only one right now that can get any close to the President. But he’s also a lazy bum who doesn’t use his opportunities.

On the other hand, I can’t even get close to her at all!

It would be easier if I was in the student council, but.

I know from Koga-chan’s intel that the President is very careful about who joins the council. If I was interrogated, it would be hard to hide my intentions, unless... I need more intel!

Mitama: Oh well, so how are your Doujins going?

Kogane: It’s just that...

I can’t think of anything!

Mitama: Well, it happens. Writer’s block is a thing.

Kogane: It’s the culture festival. I keep expecting that the culture festival will outshine anything I think about!

I can’t do it like senpai...

Mitama: Senpai?

Kogane: Kino-senpai. I’ve read her latest Doujin and I can’t match it.

Mitama: I’m sure she just has more experience, she probably started in a situation much like yours.

Kogane: Still, “The Genius War of Love and Brains” . It’s such an interesting concept. It’s not just about the romance, it’s about outsmarting the opponent!

Mitama: A genius war, huh.

Narrator: If you asked Tono about intelligence, she would tell you she’s just normal. The truth is that she has a high IQ. And actually has great Analytical and Information gathering skills! However, she also isn’t really interested in standing out unless it’s necessary for her goals. And her goal at the moment is not grades. She didn’t join any club. She tries to stay at the middle of the grades rankings, so that she doesn’t stand out in any direction.

Mitama (M): I can’t really play like that. I’m no Genius. If I were to evaluate my own resources to get close to President Iino, I would say I only have my good looks. However, she’s not a boy so she’s less vulnerable to that sort of thing and also she’s beautiful herself and she’s used to being surrounded by beauty. Shinomiya-senpai. Fujiwara-senpai, Osaragi-senpai, it’s a never-ending list...

Mitama: Well, maybe you just need to shake things up a bit. For example. What if someone wanted to split Prez and VicePrez? That could be a sort of “genius war” on its own, right?

Kogane: Huh, I dunno... It sounds like a bit of a stretch.

But they are both really possessive and prone to jealousy. I think the only way would be to cause one of them to cheat on the other. But it’s not like they would ever do something like that!

Mitama: Yeah, true. But if the goal is to split them, they don’t really have to cheat. It only has to look like they did...

Kogane: Hmm I guess that could work. But some situations like that would be pretty hard to write in a believable way. Hmm. I can take the challenge, tho!

Wow, Mita-chan, I didn’t know you were so interested in the Doujins!

Mitama: Oh no, thank you, your pitch was pretty good!

Kogane: Wait a minute... I was not pitching! You were the one pitching.

Mitama: Oh right, true, true. I just got confused. heh.

Kogane: Haha, Mita-chan you are such a klutz!

Mitama: Yeah...

Mitama (M): This might be my only chance, but President Iino is too smart to fall for it too easily. It would need to be a long con to be believable.

If the only thing I have in my favor right now is my looks... I guess I’ll have to make use of them.

Narrator: Let’s go back to the present now.

Kogane: It was just a normal talk and I haven’t heard from her since. But well, we’ve been very busy with the culture festival and all.

Ishigami: Since you are good friends, I’ll have to tell you this. But please keep in mind, I’m not telling you to spread gossip but because I don’t want people to get hurt needlessly.

Iino is not in just a meeting. It’s more of a trial.

Kogane:  A trial?

Ishigami: The rumors are that Tono is a nymphomaniac that has been seducing boys to make them confess to her. She went on a rampage and dated 10 boys during the culture festival.

Kogane:  Holy what?

Ishigami: But the real problem is she disturbed the harmony between the Shuchiin VIPs, because she wrecked the relationship between two club presidents by seducing one of them.

Kogane: This doesn’t make any sense!

Ishigami: Shuchiin VIPs are not to be messed with. If they can get the Disciplinary Committee and the Student Council to agree, they can force her to be expelled for disturbing school morals.

Kogane: Ugh. But. I don’t want her to leave!

Though we don’t really talk about boys, I never thought she was interested.

In fact, it’s so weird to hear all of this. I don’t think it really fits the Tono I know!

Ishigami (M): Before the Culture Festival, Tono’s reputation was that of a slacker. In Schuchiin when you have no pedigree then you need to be part of the club hierarchy to be anybody. But Tono preferred to stay at home. If there’s  anyone that would be biased against someone like that, it would be the club presidents.

I know full well how easy it is for rumors to spread and misrepresent situations. I can’t let unjust punishment happen.

Ishigami: Don’t worry, Beret-san. I’ll do something about this.

Ishigami: Iino!  Hm, I didn’t expect to find you in the corridor. Is the trial over?

Miko: Why is that? The trial got too long and heated. So we agreed on a short break. I was just going to grab some coffee.

Ishigami: It’s just this situation. I don’t think anything adds up. Maybe there’s more to it that we don’t know. You should be careful..

Miko (M): Why must you out of anyone be the one to say this? This whole thing was so difficult already.

Miko: If she’s really disturbing morals, something has to be done about it.

Ishigami: But-

Miko: But , justice and punishment are not the same.

I’m aware of what consequences there could be if the clubs are wrong about this.

I’ll handle it.

Ishigami (M): It was Iino’s greatest trial yet. In her campaign’s speech, she said she’ll continue to grow. But this was a key moment to show if that really was true.

Miko: I understand the concerns of the club association.

But I also think that what’s being proposed is not the solution.

Miko (M): We have to follow the example of our predecessors. When I try to think about how Shinomiya-Senpai or President Shirogane would have solved this, I can only think of one way.

If She’s guilty she needs rehabilitation. If she’s not guilty then we need more information. Either way, there’s only one solution.

Miko: The Student Council will watch over Tono.

Miko (M): This is the only way.

Ishigami (M): And that’s the story of how our Student Council Secretary joined our ranks.

This was the only way to solve this.

Miko (M): I’m sure, one way or the other, Tono will show us that we weren’t wrong.

Secretary Mitama Tono: Hey senpai.

Ishigami: Do you need anything, Secretary Tono?

Mitama: Yeah.. I have a question.

Do you like my legs or my boobs more? I know you stare at my boobs. But it’s not always easy to notice when you are staring at my legs.

Ishigami: What?

Miko: What?

Narrator : Ishigami and Miko’s Loss.

Notes:

I know these are not very good. But I love the characters so much that situations keep appearing in my brain, post them here so that I wouldn't forget. I got tired of telling people to read this stuff. If someone likes it, I consider it a side effect to me just dumping a bunch of ideas in a fic.

I'm officially declaring chapter 11 to be the last one. But there's a catch. I will continue the story but most likely in another set of chapters. I guess that now that the Student Council is complete, it only makes sense. We finally explained how everyone joined. Now we just need to tackle the most challenging part, which is what starts making Ishigami admit more openly (at least to himself) that he wants to be confessed to.

I would be lying if I said I enjoyed the retcons Aka gave to the new Student Council members' personalities. But on the bright side, Tono's characterization did allow me to figure out a way to make her join the student council. I'm actually pretty proud of how I bridged the Tono in the Kita festival with the Tono we now know. I actually have a good idea regarding how to bridge my old chapters' Kogane with the new one, and if you've been paying attention I think you probably know already what I'll do. My Kogane is not really that different from Aka's Kogane all things considered. I think Taikano is fine, I was already making him act like a bit of an ass, specially in that Kogane chapter, I just need to up that a bit.

You might be wondering what's next? Well, after Culture Festival comes Christmas, surely Ishigami and Miko didn't squander their chances on Christmas, right? RIGHT?. Read our Christmas Special: "An IshiMiko Carol" to learn what happened during Christmas....
