Summary:

After getting a troubling call from Neal, Kaira must keep her cool and go to a family reunion at Neal's, leading to stories, and some painful truths. But when Peter crashes the reunion, he must confront the morality of the situation Neal put him in.

Notes:

Hey y'all!
So I know it's been a while. Like a long while. There's a lot that's happened, and quite frankly my mental health wasn't the best. But I am trying to get back on track, and work on my fics.
This should be an interesting chapter!

Hope you enjoy!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Hotel

Kaira was looking out the window, phone to her ear. Neal’s warning repeated in her mind. She lowered the phone and looked out the window. She saw a black SUV outside, and suspected she knew who it was.

“Kaira, what is it?” Eliot’s voice causes Kaira to carefully close the curtain and turn around.

Hardison was getting his computer setup ready, sitting at the desk, and Parker was checking her repelling gear. Both of them looked at Kaira.

“That was Neal. He doesn’t think Peter’s buying our covers.” Kaira explained, trying to keep calm.

“Kaira, I backed up our aliases, and Parker made sure McSweeten would cover us. He’s not gonna find anything.” Hardison also kept a calm voice for Kaira’s sake.

“We’ve had these aliases for years, Kaira. They’re good.” Parker also comforted Kaira.

“You’re right. Hardison, I think there’s an FBI vehicle right outside the window, right about 10 o’clock.” Kaira also revealed.

“I’ll check it out. Give me a sec to just boot up everything.” Hardison powered on his laptop.

After a couple minutes his laptop turned on, and he hacked into the hotel security cameras.

“Alright, I’m in. I’m also watching our aliases, and trust me, we’ll know if they’re blown.” Hardison explained.

“All right.” Kaira was trying not to pace.

“Alright, got a license plate number. Running it now.” Hardison was typing furiously.

Then his laptop beeped.

“Got it. Kaira’s right, the vehicle’s FBI.” Hardison revealed.

“Now what?” Eliot wasn’t sure of the next move.

“Nothing. As far as we know, our cover’s aren’t blown.” Parker explained, standing beside the desk.

“Parker’s right. Hardison, just keep an eye out, and let us know the second anything’s off.” Kaira told Hardison.

“Kaira, I got this.” Hardison assured Kaira, grabbing her arm.

Kaira put her loose hand on Hardisons.

“I know. I just don’t want any of us to go to jail. Not with what we have to lose.” Kaira was definitely shaken up, and looking right at Eliot.

“I know, sweetheart. And trust me, nobody’s going to jail.” Eliot assured Kaira, walking over to her.

She wrapped her arms around his neck as he pulled her in close.

“It’ll be okay.” Eliot comforted Kaira, moving some of the hair from her face.

She smiled.

“I know.” She kissed his lips softly.

Eliot had his hand on the back of Kaira’s neck, pulling her waist in slightly. They let go for the moment. Kaira took a breath.

“So we meet up with Neal at his place in a few hours, and when Peter comes, we keep our covers. And we finish this job as soon as possible.” Kaira told them the plan.

The team nodded in agreement. This was gonna be tough.

Neal’s Apartment

Neal was nervous, opening the door to his apartment quickly, then shutting it quickly. Mozzie was taking wine bottles out of a wooden crate, setting them on his table.

“Oh Neal, I got these rather fine bottles of the wine you requested for tonight. What’s going on?” Mozzie didn’t look up from the bottle until he heard Neal pacing, and breathing slightly heavily.

“Peter didn’t buy Kaira’s cover.” Neal told Mozzie, taking his jacket off and putting it on the back of the chair.

“Well, I did warn you the Suit was gonna be hard to convince.” Mozzie had his “I told you so” tone.

“I don’t know if her team’s cover’s blown. Mozzie, my own cousin could be sent to prison cause of me.” Neal was now in full on panic.

Mozzie put the bottle down, and went up to Neal.

“You gotta trust that Kaira’s got it covered. If legend’s correct, her tech guy can create aliases that rival the CIA’s. Trust me, she’s got it covered.” Mozzie assured his friend.

Neal took a breath and calmed himself down.

“I’m not worried about Kaira, I’m worried about Peter.” Neal told Mozzie, looking at him.

“The Suits not gonna find anything, Neal.” Mozzie told him.

That only eased Neal a bit.

“I hope so.” Neal composed himself and put back on his jacket.

“Just make sure we got enough room and food for everyone tonight. I’ll be back later. Kaira’s coming at 7.” Neal told Mozzie, heading to the door.

“I’ll have everything taken care of by then.” Mozzie all but shoved Neal out the door.

Mozzie was worried about Neal. He seemed to be full of worry for his cousin and her team. And he was too. Anything could happen. Until then, the only thing Neal could do was go back to work and act like nothing was wrong.

7 PM at Neal Caffrey’s Apartment

Neal was setting down the last of the wine glasses for his guests. Mozzie had decided to head out for the night, as he was uncomfortable with the number of people going to be at his friend's place. Neal made sure everything was set. He then heard a knock at the door and walked over, putting the towel that was in his hands on the counter. He cracked the door and saw it was Kaira and her team. Neal smiled as he opened the door more.

“Glad you could make it, Kaira.” Neal chuckled and hugged Kaira.

“Me too Neal.” Kaira let out a smile too as they let go.

“Come in. I got wine, and I got snacks.” Neal announced, gesturing to the table.

“Thanks, Neal.” Kaira thanked him for everyone.

“Shall we sit?” Eliot suggested, already moving a chair for Kaira.

She just chuckled and sat down, and Eliot pushed her chair in and sat down as Hardison did the same for Parker. Neal sat down too, a little jealous he couldn’t do that for a lucky lady.

“So, mind introducing me properly to your team, cousin?” Neal was smirking.

Kaira chuckled.

“This is my husband, Eliot, that’s Parker, and Alec Hardison.” Kaira went around the table, each person raising their hand when called.

“Nice to meet you all. By what Mozzie tells me, you got yourself a nice little operation going.” Neal was impressed, pouring glasses of wine for everyone.

“Yeah we do.” Kaira looked at her team with pride.

“So what have you been doing all these years? C’mon, don’t keep me in suspense.” Neal teased slightly.

The team chuckled.

“Well, after I joined the army, I joined the private sector where I met this handsome cowboy.” Kaira looked right at Eliot, placing her hand on his thigh, causing him to raise his eyes.

“More like you walked in the room and I couldn’t stop looking.” Eliot teased, and was most definitely flirting, which caused Kaira to blush and hit Eliot’s shoulder while Neal smiled.

“Then we met these two and well, it’s been a hell of a ride Neal.” Kaira was reminiscing as she instinctively put her hand on Eliot’s knee.

But a loud bang of a door opening cause Kaira to jerk up, immediately side by side with Eliot as the others behind them. It was Peter, gun drawn on Kaira specifically.

“Kaira Newton, you’re under arrest. Hands up. All of you.” Peter was pissed off.

And so was the team. The team stood up with their hands up, Neal off to the side, trying to protect Kaira’s team from Peter’s wrath, and trying to keep space between Peter and Kaira.

“Peter—“ Neal was trying to explain. “I don’t wanna hear it Neal! You lied!” Peter started yelling at Neal. Peter looked at Neal with a hurt face.

“Is she really your cousin?” Peter asked Neal.

“She is.” Neal confirmed, showing he wasn’t lying.

“I am his cousin. And you might wanna put the gun down before we both do something we’ll regret.” Kaira threatened, keeping her team behind her.

Kaira then took a couple steps, trying to get closer to Peter.

“Stay there, Kaira!” Peter ordered, gun still on Kaira.

Kaira looked at Neal, who at this point was closest to Peter, and Neal shook his head no, knowing what she was doing.

“And what if I say no?” Kaira cocked her head, taking another step closer to Peter.

“I don’t wanna hurt you, Kaira. Or your team.” Peter glanced at the team.

They were all pissed!

“That was your mistake, bubba. See, threatening my wife just pisses me off. Second, you’re making the biggest mistake of your life.” Eliot drew Peter’s attention so Kaira could move.

“Oh I doubt that.” Peter retorted, retraining the gun.

“I could taze him.” Parker was downright scary.

“Babe, stand down.” Hardison read what was happening.

“See, you made three mistakes just now. One, you arrived alone with no backup. Two, you threatened my wife and friends. What’s three sweetheart?” Eliot smirked.
Peter was confused, then realized that Kaira was now right beside him. She grabbed his wrist with her one arm, punched his face with the other, grabbed his gun, ejected the bullet in the chamber, dropped the magazine, and threw the gun away. Neal was helping Peter up from his hit.
“You got too close. And you pissed me off.” Kaira was pissed as she rejoined the team.

“You wouldn’t have gotten away with shooting or arresting any of us Peter. You go after one of us, the others step in and we overpower you. You’re lucky I only gave you a love tap.” Kaira warned Peter, who had brushed Neal off and got up.

“That was a love tap?” Peter was kinda nervous now, rubbing his cheek.

“Trust me, it is.” Eliot spoke up.

“What do you want, Newton?” Peter asked Kaira, giving her a death glare.

“I don’t go by Newton anymore, Peter. My name is Kaira Spencer. That’s my husband Eliot, that’s Parker, and that’s Alec Hardison. You might’ve read our files.” Kaira had calmed down slightly, but was still on edge.

“Spencer? You’re married to Eliot Spencer?” Neal finally spoke up after the tense stand-off.

“Yeah.” Kaira and Eliot both at the same time flashed their wedding rings.

“You know the name?” Peter asked Neal.

“Everyone in my world does. Mostly as someone you avoid. Or hire if you need to retrieve a high-value item that’s hot. You didn’t tell me you married the Eliot Spencer.” Neal kinda cocked his head at Kaira.

“I was interrupted.” Kaira glared at Peter.

“I remember your file, Hardison. Hacked the DOD and the Bank of Iceland at a young age.” Peter looked at Hardison.

“Age of the geek, baby.” Hardison got cocky.

“Parker. Another legendary name.” Neal commented, looking at the blonde thief.

“Right. That Caravaggio in 2003 in Paris. Hope diamond. Lots of jewels.” Peter remembered.

“I remember those heists. I was almost jealous of the skill. Kaira, you didn’t tell me we would be with such esteemed company.” Neal was now impressed.

“What can I say Neal, I’m full of surprises.” Kaira chuckled.

“Now, can we get back to our wine? I got stories I wanna share. And I wanna hear what you’ve been up to.” Kaira smiled a bit and moved back to the table.

“Wait you want me to stay?” Peter was confused.

Neal just chuckled and went to sit back down with the team.

“You’re not the first or last person to pull a gun on me. I don’t take it personally. Now if you had shot me, I would’ve beat your ass ten ways to Sunday.” Kaira chuckled as Peter sat down.

“I see where Neal gets it from.” Peter commented, causing everyone to chuckle.

“You never did answer my question.” Peter got right to the point as Neal got Peter a beer.

“We want Bertelli behind bars.” Kaira answered plainly.

“I’m not buying that.” Peter leaned on the table.

“It’s the truth.” Hardison told him.

“You’re criminals. Cons. You after his money?” Peter started interrogating them.

“Not for us.” Eliot told him.

Peter was confused.

“I’m confused.” Neal was leaning back in his chair.

“I think I am too.” Peter added.

Kaira rolled her eyes.

“We are criminals. But we help people.” Hardison told him.

“We work outside the law.” Eliot added.

“As my father says “we pick up where the law leaves off.” We are the people the little guy turns to when they have nowhere else to turn.” Kaira explained.

“Now I know your father never said that Kaira.” Neal kinda scoffed.

“I wasn’t talking about him. The man who started this crusade of ours. Nathan Ford.” Kaira dropped.

“Nathan Ford?” Peter and Neal both were shocked.

“Yeah. You wanted to know what I’ve been up to, cousin. This is it.” Kaira leaned back and took a sip of wine.

“This I wanna hear.” Peter was now intrigued.

“Me too.” Neal took a sip of wine.

“Before we do, you gotta promise me one thing. Full immunity. You won’t go after us for what we’re about to say, cause if you do, we will raise hell.” Kaira warned.

Peter was contemplating. While he didn’t like this situation, specifically working with his friends cousin, who was a criminal like him, and was actively here to commit crimes. But he was always the curious type, and learning about a relative of Neal’s did peak his curiosity.

“Alright, you got a deal.” Peter agreed, setting his badge on the table.

“Good. Our journey started when Eliot and I were in Chicago, where all of us were hired to steal back airplane designs by this CEO. And well, we needed the payday so we took the job.” Kaira started the story.

“Then he didn’t pay us.” Parker blurred out.

“I know babe.” Hardison has his arm around Parker.

“Then he tried blowing us up.” Eliot added.

“What?” Neal and Peter were now entranced by the story.

“So Nate decides he wants to run a game on this guy. Of course we all know we can’t get close to the bastard cause he knew our faces, so he tracks down Sophie Devereaux.” Kaira knew that name would get a reaction, and indeed it did.

“Sophie Devereux?” Neal was amazed and skeptical.

“Yeah. She was Parker’s and mine’s mentor.” Kaira revealed.

“I don’t get the big deal.” Peter was confused.

“Peter, Sophie Devereaux is grifter royalty. She can read a mark like no other.” Neal was fanboying.

“Anyways, we had her con the guy, and we send him to jail. And had a pretty nice payday outta that too.” Kaira chuckled before Hardison got cocky.

“Thanks to who?” Hardison knew the answer.

“You. Cause you’re that good.” Parker was flirting a bit.

“Damn straight mama.” Hardison kissed the top of Parker’s head.

“What con did you do?” Neal asked Kaira.

“We used Nigerians.” Kaira answered.

“A classic.” Neal leaned back again.

“Right? Coulda retired that day. All of us.” Kaira looked at the team, thinking back to 2008, all of them standing in a circle, more money than they had ever hoped in their hands. Everything they wanted.

“So why didn’t you?” Peter asked.

Kaira looked at her team.

“Well, I promised I’d always have my cowboys back. Redemption. And cause we were too damn good.” Kaira chuckled lightly.

“I promised I’d watch my mama's back. And I had anger issues I needed to work through. And Nate needed someone to make sure he didn’t fall apart again.” Eliot answered, his hand on Kaira’s thigh.

“Nate helped me focus. And I was 21, man. I didn’t want to retire.” Hardison chuckled as well.

“I didn’t want to give up my one thing I was good at.” Parker answered.

The team all smiled at one another, realizing how far each of them had come.

“What happened after that?” Peter asked them.

“We teamed up with Nate as our mastermind. We’d help people who the system wouldn’t help. Nate became like a father to me.” Kaira kinda got quiet, missing Nate.

“Kaira and I got married, Parker and Hardison started dating. And we were good.” Eliot put his arm around Kaira.

“We were the best.” Hardison smiled at the couple, then at his girl.

“What happened next?” Neal asked.

“I found out I was pregnant, Nate and Sophie left to get married, and we started Leverage: International.” Kaira revealed.

“Wait, you have a kid?” Neal had perked up.

Kaira chuckled.

“Yeah. Two actually. Twins.” Kaira smiled at how happy Neal was.

“That’s amazing, Kaira.” Neal went to hug Kaira.

“Congratulations you two.” Peter was also smiling.

“Ah, Kaira’s the one to praise. She’s the one running 12 crews, a brewpub, and raising twins.” Eliot was looking at Kaira, who was blushing a bit.

“Wait, 12 crews?” Peter was now intrigued.

“Leverage: International. It was part of our cover story when we started out. But now we’ve expanded.” Hardison pitched, putting his arm around Parker.

“12 teams all over the world. Eliot and I mainly run them while Kaira takes a little time and runs things from home with Hardison.” Parker continued.

“That’s incredible.” Neal was amazed.

“And scary.” Peter was on the fence.

“The world’s a scary place. Peter, you know the system’s broken. We get real justice for people.” Kaira got a bit defensive.

“By conning people.” Peter snipped.

“Peter, it’s not that different from me.” Neal argued.

“I’m gonna tell you what I told the last guy who had those same thoughts. You can choose between order and justice. Order, we walk. But I assure you, we will get justice for our client.” Kaira was stiff.

“Client?” Peter was confused.

“A woman named Teri who lost money cause of Bertelli's fake accounts. Her house is about to be sold cause she can’t pay her mortgage. She has a 5 year old daughter named Rose who loves the color red and books. Teri works 2 jobs to make ends meet cause she lost her husband 3 years ago. She can’t get a loan, and she went to the authorities, who wouldn’t help her cause they claimed it was her fault. A lot of our clients have similar stories. We are the ones they turn to when they have nowhere else to turn.” Kaira explained.

Peter was now conflicted.

“And if I choose justice?” Peter asked.

Neal was tense.

“We’ll help you take down Bertelli. No one out of this room has to know who we really are. Just put our Fed aliases on the paperwork, and we’re gone. Your choice.” Kaira had the scary glare on her face.

Peter kinda looked at Neal.

“She always that intense?” Peter asked Neal.

“Yeah ever since we were teenagers.” Neal answered.

“It’s your choice Peter.” Kaira reminded Peter.

Peter just shook his head, silently debating in his head what he could do.

“I need to sleep on it.” Peter just got up and left, grabbing his disassembled gun, shutting the door behind him.

“Just give Peter time, he’ll come around.” Neal assured the team.

“You better be right Caffrey.” Eliot gave Neal the glare.

Neal was scared. Kaira cleared her throat.

“So what have you been up to Neal?” Kaira asked, hoping to change the subject.

“Right now, I’m a consultant for the FBI. Peter and I have the highest closure rate of any CI handler team. But enough about me, I wanna hear the truth behind some of these crazy ass stories Mozzies been telling me about you.” Neal chuckled lightly, sitting up.

The team chuckled a bit. Then Mozzie entered.

“Just in time, Moz. We were just getting to those stories you’ve been telling me.” Neal looked at Mozzie as he sat down.

“Oh I wanna hear this! But first, you gonna introduce me, Neal?” Mozzie sat beside Neal.

“Ah right. Guys, this is my friend Mozzie. Moz, meet my cousin Kaira, her husband Eliot Spencer, and her team Alec Hardison and Parker.” Neal introduced everyone as they all shook Mozzies hand, besides Parker.

“Wait, as in the Parker?” Mozzie looked at Neal.

“Yes that’s me.” Parker was now smiling.

“And you’re Eliot Spencer? Your cousin married Eliot Spencer?” Mozzie then looked at Eliot and Kaira.

“What can I say, I’ve always had a thing for bad boys.” Kaira teased Eliot.

“Neal, they’re legends! It’s like taking a painting class with Van Gogh!” Mozzie was fanboying!

"I appreciate the enthusiasm Moz.” Parker chuckled.

Neal then looked at Kaira and she nodded back.

“Why don’t you three entertain Mozzie with some stories while I catch up with Neal?” Kaira looked at her team.

“Oh I wanna hear all the stories. I also have a lot of questions, so please take your time.” Mozzie liked the idea of hearing the stories.

“You okay, sweetheart?” Eliot whispered in Kaira’s ear.

Neal walked over to the balcony and the dark skyline overlooking Manhattan.

“I’m okay my love. I just need to talk with Neal. Alone.” Kaira whispered back and kissed Eliot on the cheek.

She got up and went to follow Neal.

“I wanna hear about you framing a judge during a bank robbery.” Mozzie told the others just as Kaira got outside.

She stood beside Neal, wine glasses in hand.

“I still can’t believe you managed to get someone to marry you Kai.” Neal chuckled.

Kaira did too, and a smile crept on her face.

“I know. Eliot’s a good guy. Treats me good.” Kaira assured Neal, chuckling slightly and playing with her wedding band.

“Good. Cause I would’ve had to kick his ass then.” Neal chuckled.

“Good luck winning that one Neal.” Kaira chuckled again.

“And you’re a mom too.” Neal couldn’t believe how grown up Kaira was.

“I am.” Kaira couldn’t help but smile.

“And you run 12 crews around the world.” Neal was impressed.

“Well Parker and I do.” Kaira corrected.

“And here I am with a two mile radius and a tracking anklet.” Neal cracked a quip.

“Hey you got expensive suits and a 10 million dollar view of Manhattan.” Kaira chuckled along with Neal.

Neal’s face then went serious.

“How did you do it, Kai?” Neal asked his cousin.

“Do what?” Kaira questioned.

“How do you do it all?” Neal asked.

“Some days I don’t even know Neal.” Kaira admitted.

“You ever regret giving it all up?” Neal asked her, now sitting on the chair that sat in the middle of the balcony, along with a table.

Kaira joined him at the other chair.

“Giving up the family business, sure. But I haven’t really left the life, have I?” Kaira looked at Neal.

"And you don't think about leaving?” Neal asked her.

"I don't. I got a good life now, Neal. I'm married to a great guy who treats me like a queen, I have 2 amazing babies, and I have 2 amazing partners in crime. I get to help people everyday. I run 12 teams all over the world. I'm happy, Neal. More than that, I feel content. I'm lucky." Kaira looked at Neal.

Neal just looked at the wine glass in front of him. The look on his face seemed to not be of jealousy but of longing.

“How do you make it work with Eliot?" Neal asked her.

Kaira realized what Neal was really asking.

"Who was she?" Kaira asked.

"Who?" Neal questioned.

"The girl who got away." Kaira took a sip of wine and gave Neal a look.

Neal chuckled.

"Sarah." Neal answered.

Kaira just looked at Neal.

"You loved her.” Kaira gave an apologetic look to Neal.

"Yeah. Haven't had much luck with the family thing. Came close a couple times.” Neal revealed, with a solemn look on his face Kaira knew well.

"What was her name?" Kara asked.

"Kate. When I was in prison, she broke it off, which is why I escaped. I needed to know why. Peter caught me and that's when I made the deal with Peter." Neal had just looked at his glass.

"You loved her didn't you?" Kaira realized.

"Bought a ring. We were gonna run off together with new identities, the works. We were gonna board a plane that was gonna take us away, fake our deaths, and live free together. But the plane we were gonna take exploded sooner than it was supposed to." Neal was getting upset.

"I'm so sorry Neal.” Kaira felt horrible for her cousin.

"Worse part was that I should've been on that plane. I couldn't save her." Neal had tears in his eyes as he looked at Kaira.

"Neal, you can’t keep carrying that guilt around or it’s gonna eat you alive. Believe me, some of the guilt of my sins caused me to make choices that I regretted.” Kaira warned Neal.

“Like what?” Neal asked her.

“A lot of people got hurt because of the things I did. My moral compass was all screwed up. But I met Nate and he put me back on the path.” Kaira took another sip of her wine, blanking out as she flashed back to the events that transpired at the warehouse.

“And another thing I learned, Neal, is that your past always catches up to you. One of the cases my team did, we were blackmailed by this Italian woman. She wanted us to take down Damien Moreau.” Kaira dropped the name, getting a curious head tilt from Neal.

“Moreau? Kate’s brother?” Neal was shocked.

“Wait, your ex girlfriend was Damien Moreau’s sister?” Kaira was equally as confused.

“I don’t know for sure, she never really told me about him.” Neal revealed.

“That’s… interesting.” Kaira could now sense the awkwardness that had developed in the room.

“I do know that he had a lot of influence in our circles, and was someone you didn’t mess with. Moz would hit me probably if he heard me say his name.” Neal broke the tension a bit.

“My team was tasked with taking him down. We worked that job for six months, taking down people associated with Moreau to get close to him. Eliot was the one to suggest that tactic because we would’ve been destroyed had we gone right at Moreau. But what we didn’t tell the team at the time was that really we were just buying time to find our own way to go after Moreau so we wouldn’t endanger the team.” Kaira seemed to blank.

“Because Eliot and I both worked for him.” Kaira revealed, leaving Neal shocked.

“You and your husband worked for Damian Moreau? Kaira–” Neal seemed shocked.

“I know Neal. I told you, I’ve done some bad things, and my moral compass was broken. Damien knew that, and so he used it. And Eliot and I didn’t tell the team, and were buying our time. But then Damien came to Boston for an auction, and so we had our shot. Eliot and I were supposed to take Hardison as a buyer to this hotel Moreau was staying at and get an invite, and the others were trying to figure out what Moreau was trying to sell. Eliot and I were painted into a corner, and we had to tell everyone we worked for Moreau. Then things got worse.” Kaira caught her breath and took another sip.

“Moreau forced our hand by using Hardison and had us kill a general for the invite. Hardison was pissed, but got over it I think, and we faked the generals death for the invite. Then the next day at the auction, Eliot and I were with Nate, and we were clearing out the warehouse, and I should’ve known we were set up, but I didn’t and we got caught in a trap with the Italian as bait. Then his goons came in, and we were put in a kill box.” Kaira stopped herself, feeling the anxiety rise again.

“Kaira, what happened?” Neal was concerned.

“We had to get Nate and the Italian out, so Eliot and I picked up guns and we killed everyone in the warehouse. Including Moreau’s lieutenant, Chapman.” Kaira felt the shame rise again.

“I nearly killed the man who killed Kate. His name was Vincent Adler. The man who made me. He killed the woman I loved. I get it, Kaira.” Neal revealed to Kaira.

“Adler made you a criminal, Neal. Moreau made me into a killer. I was ashamed to show that part of myself to the people who knew me best. And maybe a selfish part of me didn’t want the team knowing I was a monster.” Kaira had pain in her voice.

“You’re not a monster.” Neal comforted Kaira.

“Maybe not anymore. The things we do for love right?” Kaira couldn’t help but find the irony in the situation.

“Look at us.” Neal also found it amusing in a dark humor kinda way.

“We should go back inside and assess the damage this lot has caused.” Kaira chuckled.

Neal agreed and got up. They went inside to find Parker acting out charades, telling a rather interesting story involving a butler doll and a robot vacuum. Everyone said their goodbyes and left, ready for the rough day the next day.
