Chapter 5

Gojo searched through the files the higher-ups had given him, all of the agreements and contracts he signed, everything. He hoped for a loophole to exploit, something to dispute, anything that could help him get his kids back. Exhaustion cloaked his entire body, weighing him down as though he were under a thousand blankets. The aching desire to rest pressed the back of his eyes. Although, the anxious, guilty, selfish energy that drove him bubbled in his veins, keeping him awake despite the state he was in. He could feel the telltale signs of his sensory overload starting to unfurl in his chest.

He had been going at this for far too long. It’s never going to change anything, his mind whispered, you’re wasting your time.

The sound of the door snapped him awake.

“Gojo sensei!”

It couldn’t be.

“Satoru?”

It was.

Familiar, judgemental eyes looked up at him. Megumi. Without thinking, Gojo flung his arms around the boy, tucking his head underneath his chin. To his surprise, short arms wrapped around him, reciprocating the embrace. Another joined the embrace, and Gojo affectionately ruffled her hair in thanks. The three of them sighed in tandem, relief and comfort filled the air around them.

Remembering the situation, Gojo asked, “W-What are you two doing here?”

“What do you mean?” Tsumiki chirped.

“I gave you away- I couldn’t keep you, the higher-ups… ” Gojo sighed. “I wasn’t good enough to- I haven’t fixed it yet. You didn’t have to come back.”

“I’m sorry, Dad.” That voice… it was Megumi’s? I must be dreaming

“You aren’t dreaming.”

Oh, did I say that out loud?

“Yes. And anyways it's all my fault. I’m really sorry-”

“‘Gumi, it isn’t your fault at all. I took on the responsibility when I decided to take you guys in. I should’ve-”

“Dad,” Tsumiki interrupted. “We’ll figure it out. Together.”

Megumi nodded as well as he could, nestled into Gojo’s chest. He placed his hand over his dad’s heart, whispering, “Can we come home?”

A laugh bubbled its way out of Gojo’s mouth. They wanted him back. Someone cared for him, and enough to want him back. Elated, he pulled his kids closer, kissing both of them on the top of the head. It would be okay. They’d figure it out. Together.

“Of course!”

Notes:

Again, I'm sorry. This idea has been in my head for a long time and I'm very surprised no one else has written this yet lol.
