VIRAGO || Band of Brothers

Chapter 36: NOT AN UPDATE, PLEASE READ

Chapter Text

Hello! I just wanted to apologize for not updating for a year. I had just started my final year of highschool at the time, and all the stress, pressure and workload just got to me and i couldn't find the time nor motivation to write. However, i am back and do plan on updating with new chapters soon. I'm aiming to get all the chapters for episode 3 written and uploaded at the same time though, so it might take several days/weeks, especially since I'm starting University at the end of this month.

To everyone who's been reading or already read Virago the full way through, i'm currently going back and editing the first chapters to fix plot holes and other issues. I'll provide a list of changes i've made per chapter incase people don't want to go reread from the start, but i do highly recommend rereading chapters 5 to 9, as that is where the bulk of the changes have been made (nothing too major but the structure/events of each chapter have been altered/rearranged).

General/small plot changes:

1. Rosie is now 5'6 (not 5'2 which she used to be). i made this change after a reader pointed out that within the context of the story, it'd make more sense for the Airborne to choose a woman who is more physically suited (taller/stronger) to the experiment (therefore, more likely to pass the training), rather than a woman who is on the smaller side.

2. Rosie is no longer the only woman in the military. The program she's a part of has been changed from placing a single woman into the entire army, to having a nurse be placed in each branch of the military (Navy, Airborne, Marines etc). Again, in the context of this story, it'd make more sense for the military to choose multiple participants in order to get better results in their experiment.

3. Rosie has no longer been forced to join the airborne, she was offered a place as part of the experiment, but gets to choose if she takes part. She ultimately chooses to join out of a sense of duty. I feel it's more realistic for the army to allow the women involved to make a choice rather than being forced, especially considering society's views on women at the time and the fact the program is still experimental.

4. It takes more time and effort for Easy company to accept Rosie. She has to work harder to keep up with them and it takes a few more chapters before Easy company warms up to rosie (chapters 5 to 9).

5. Rosalie's mothers name has been changed from Mia to Anna

Chapter by Chapter Changes:

01 The Nurse Corps

- Rosie's height/physical description is mentioned (5'6, lean with toned muscles from working the farm all her life etc.)

- expanded more on some general information about Rosie (she's a hard worker, always studied to stay on top of school work. love learning and enjoys helping people)

02 The Letter

- expanded on why Rosie was moved forward in the nurse training. (She received basic nursing training whilst volunteering in her towns hospital, so she just had to take a couple test to show competence and understanding of what she'd already learnt, before being placed in a group of nursing students who had completed the same level of training as her.)

- the letter she receives now details Rosies offer to join the airborne as part of an experiment, rather than a non-negotiable reassignment

03 Home

- follow-through details from chapter 2 (Rosie talks with her parents about whether or not she'll accept to the offer. she ultimately does)

- conversation at the end between Rosie and Jamie has been changed slightly to fit the above point

04 Au Revoir

No changes

05 Camp Toccoa

- changes to Rosie's first meeting/conversation with Easy company (more examples of the men questioning Rosie and being disrespectful.)

06 Friends and Foe

- expanded description of how the men treat Rosie, more examples of the disrespect and talking behind her back

- brief mention of Rosie receiving letters from the other women chosen for the experiment, all sharing similar experiences to her regarding how the men treat them

- added scene: rosie is walking back from training and is pushed over by a couple men from easy, who mock her. Johnny Martin helps her up and they have a brief conversation

- added scene: showing Rosies extra training/struggle with getting over the 6-foot wall on the obstacle course. also expands on why she's training more

- no changes made to Rosie befriending Eugene Roe

07 Currahee

- no changes to the scene where Sobel points out the mens infractions, make them run up currahee and skip hurts his ankle

- slight changes to Rosie and Bill's conversation after she mocks Sobel on the run. (Bill complements her but refuses to talk further than that, saying that Rosie shouldn't think they're suddenly going to get along.)

- changes made to the men's discussion about Rosie (majorly the same but they still decide she won't make it.)

- changes made to rosie's speech to the men about why she's there (changed to fit the plot point about her accepting an offer. the men no longer befriend Rosie at this point)

08 Trust and Respect (Chapter was re-named from Training)

- friday night march scene is majorly the same, only slight change to Rosies' involvement in the conversation where bull claims sobel hates Easy Company

- rosie taking the blame for Christenson drinking his water and redoing the march with him is the same, only slight changes were made to rosie's conversation about why she took responsibility

- no changes made to scene where gordon runs currahee for failing the jump exercise

- new scene: during a hand-to-hand training Rosie keeps getting knocked down by her partner, but refuses to give up, even when Sobel orders her to do it again and again.

09 Turning Point

Completely new chapter (except the obstacle course scene but major changes have been made to that). Please read

Chapters 10 and onwards

Nothing major, just minor details will be updated to fit the other changes made to the story/chapters

Once again, i highly recommend that anyone who's already read past chapters 5 - 9 in the story go back and re-read them due to the changes made. But of course, if you don't want to, feel free to just use this list as a reference or ask me to clarify anything in the comments.

Sorry again for being away for so long, i do plan on updating soon. Thank you for your patience.

This chapter will be deleted once i write and upload the chapters for episode 3

DISCLAIMER

I recently had some claims of plagiarism against this story on Wattpad from a concerned user. They noticed some serious similarities between Virago and wattpad user @wexhappyxfew's Sunshine Soldier that i was completely unaware of and they brought it to my attention. I'm thankful they did that as i was able to fix and learn from my mistakes and change these similarities. @wexhappyxfew
and I have been in contact and are currently going over any ideas and plot points that are too similar so I am able to change them and prevent anymore confusion or accusations of plagiarism in the future. I will put a disclaimer at the beginning of each chapter that has been changed due to this issue. I'd like to thank the user (who i won't reveal the name of out of respect for them and their privacy) for bringing this to my attention and @wexhappyxfew for being so understanding and cooperative.

This story is in no way meant to be offensive or disrespectful to the real veterans. I am basing this on the actors portrayals in the show.
