Chapter Text
Hizashi wasn’t panicking.
He wasn’t.
He was just… frantically worried.
Hizashi knew his husband was capable, knew that the Pro had been doing this just as long as he had, over a decade, but… this was different. It shouldn’t have been- Overhaul was just another villain, just another human, but…
He was the villain that had nearly killed Hizashi’s son.
And the villain who might-
No. No, Izuku would be fine. Izuku and Shoto. Hopefully they hadn’t dragged Tenya and Hitoshi along, but knowing those two…
It was unlikely.
Hizashi, without his directional speaker, could only fight hand-to-hand without risk of bringing down any buildings or harming any people within a mile-radius of himself. It was his husband, who always had his capture scarf and knife on him (thank God), who was leading the force to go and find Izuku and Shoto.
They didn’t have many contacts in Tokyo- only Tensei could get there fast enough to help, and the man was already making a plan with Shouta on how to get their boys back- so Hizashi had sent out an SOS on his Hero Locator. So far, two other Pro Heroes had responded- a kid who was a little newer than Keigo, named Kamui Woods, and Miss Joke, who was located a little closer than Musutafu.
Currently, Miss Joke, Shouta, and Tensei were putting their heads together to make a plan, having claimed a conference room not far from Touya’s room. It was eerie, the lack of joking and laughter from Miss Joke, but when Hizashi heard that her nephew- that Hitoshi- had gone missing just an hour beforehand, he knew that Izuku and Shoto must have called their friends. His theory was only confirmed when Tensei claimed he hadn’t been able to get a hold of his little brother’s phone, and their parents had no idea where Tenya could be.
What are you boys getting yourselves into… Hizashi shook his head, crossing his arms over his chest in an attempt to look casual, but ending up looking more like he was hugging himself for comfort.
Next to him, Kamui Woods inclined his head. “It’s your son missing, right?”
For once wordless, Hizashi nodded. And then, swallowing, he croaked out, “And his friend. Shoto Todoroki.”
“Todoroki… like Endeavor’s son?”
Hizashi’s gaze hardened, and he snapped, “That man raised that child a fraction of what we have, and he doesn’t deserve the title father.” At Kamui’s shocked eyes- though it was nearly impossible to tell what he was truly feeling due to the lack of other facial features- Hizashi winced. “Sorry, I’m just- I…”
“You’re nervous,” Kamui nodded back. “I would be as well, should it have been my son running off into danger.”
And really, Hizashi had to bite his tongue at that, because that was what Izuku and Shoto had done, right?
Run off into danger.
Run off into Overhaul’s grasp.
Finally, Miss Joke turned around and gave Hizashi a grin that just barely reached her eyes, their spark still there, but dim. She flashed him a thumbs-up and said, “We’ll get those kids back yet, Zashi.”
“They’ll be alright,” Tensei nodded back, crossing the room to clasp Hizashi on the shoulder. “We’ll bring them home. All of them.”
Shouta, now standing in front of his husband, was seeming to fight back the urge to hug the blonde. Eraserhead had never been fond of PDA when in-uniform. So, instead, Hizashi punched the man’s shoulder, giving a weak grin.
“You sure you’ll be alright out there without me?” Hizashi tried to tease, but only Miss Joke managed to give a snort.
Shouta huffed. “I’ll be fine. I can handle myself, and Izuku… Besides, someone needs to be there when Keigo wakes up.”
Keigo had been brought out from surgery a few minutes before, nearly an hour after the other Pros had arrived at the hospital, and almost an hour and a half after Izuku and Shoto had run off. Hizashi had to admit, he wanted to be there when Keigo woke up, but…
Keigo wasn’t the one currently in mortal danger from a supervillain.
He had survived the surgery- survived the spinal graft- and would recover, albeit with scars. But, Izuku…
“Hey,” Shouta murmured, just for Hizashi’s ears. Then, he signed, “Quit worrying, Loud Bird. I’ll take care of them. Green Bean will be fine.”
Hizashi sighed, fighting back the urge to grasp his husband’s hands. “I know. Now, go. Bring our boys home.”
With that, the Pro Heroes left, leaving Hizashi alone to worry in their wake.
…
Figuring out where the boys were was… frighteningly easy. Izuku had a tracker in his phone, but had turned it off before he left. Fortunately, Tensei had a tracker in Tenya’s shoes that the boy didn’t know about- “Don’t judge me, Sho, he’s always following your kid into trouble,”- and they followed said tracker to a run-down bar.
Shouta attempted to do recon through a window, but the glass pane was too dark to see through, even with his night-vision goggles. Instead, he turned on the heat vision in his goggles and tuned in to the colors in the bar.
There were several, he noted. There were four heat signatures, three of them burning bright while another ran hot and cold simultaneously, huddled together in a corner of the bar. Shouta could recognize Shoto’s heat signature anywhere, and he relayed the information to the other Pros surrounding the bar via his earpiece.
Two more figures burned bright, one pacing the room while the other stood stock still. And a third figure…
Was cold. They were so cold, Shouta could hardly make out their figure. But they were there, taller than all the rest, and their heat signature seemed to… wisp. Back and forth, their heat signature flickered and fluttered.
Some kind of mutant Quirk…? Shouta thought, wishing Izuku was there to theorize with him.
If he could only hear his little boy mumble about Quirks again…
No, Shouta shook his head to rid himself of the thought. He’ll be back soon enough. Just be patient, Aizawa…
“Eraserhead,” came Ingenium’s voice in his ear. “Are we good to go?”
Their plan was an easy one- catch the enemy by surprise by crashing through the window and coming up the front door simultaneously. If Overhaul was smart, which Shouta suspected he was, then he’d be expecting them.
But he wouldn’t be expecting to have his Quirk erased.
And so, Shouta would jump in first, erasing Overhaul’s Quirk while Kamui Woods used his Lacquered Chain Prison to take all of the villains and suspects captive. Tensei would run in, grab the kids, and get out before Overhaul was any the wiser. And Miss Joke would take down any of the stragglers, her Quirk incapacitating them.
It wasn’t foolproof, but it was a plan.
With Erasure, they had the upper hand. And even if Izuku had tried to use Erasure on Overhaul already, Shouta was more practiced with his Quirk. He had better control and a wider field of affect, able to take out all of the Quirks within his line of sight. Izuku, while getting better at controlling Erasure, could only take out a few Quirks at a time.
He’d be a great hero with more practice.
Now, Shouta just had to make sure his idiot kid lived to see his days at UA.
“Ready…” Shouta warned the other heroes, his voice dipped low and gravely. “Now.”
With that, they crashed into the building, Shouta immediately turning his sight on Overhaul and a crusty-looking teenager who was pacing the room. He felt the cold presence behind him, sensing Kamui Wood’s arms lashing out to grab onto the three villains-
“Dammit!” Kamui cried out, followed shortly by, “Eraserhead! Look out-”
But then, Shouta was falling through a portal. His whole body was washed with cold, cold, cold-
And then he found himself falling right in front of Overhaul. Immediately, he turned on his Quirk, taking out Overhaul’s before the man could even hit him.
Unfortunately, Shouta’s Quirk had a drawback.
He had to see the person to take out their Quirk.
And the teenager had already been behind him when the portal dropped him down. With Erasure focused on Overhaul, Shouta felt the presence of the teen reaching out for his elbow-
There was pain.
Fiery, hot, searing pain rushed through his arm, and Shouta cried out, jumping out of the teenager’s grasp and turning Erasure onto both the kid and Overhaul.
“So you’re Eraserhead…” the kid rasped, and Shouta felt a shock run through him.
Because this kid- this unnamed villain- knew who he was.
The Pro Heroes were now at the disadvantage, Shouta realized, his heart dropping into his stomach.
Eyes flashing over to where the four boys were tied up- had been tied up, Tensei did his job perfectly- Shouta mentally thanked an old friend for suggesting his goggles in the first place, as they hid his eyes from the villains in front of him.
And then, Miss Joke sidled up next to Shouta, her fist clenched in front of her in a fighting position. Shouta noted that she had a bloody nose, and a possibly dislocated shoulder from the way she was holding herself, but her grin was ever-present.
“You won’t get the drop on us,” Miss Joke laughed heartily. “Not even with that teleportation Quirk!”
Teleportation Quirk, Shouta noted. Miss Joke had revealed valued case information to him through casual banter with the villain. As much as he hated to admit it, she was smarter than she looked.
A teleportation Quirk would be even more dangerous than Overhaul’s and the teenager’s- Shouta noted the skin of his elbow had been disintegrated, pink, bloody muscle showing through pale surrounding skin. The pain was lost to adrenaline, though, as Shouta’s head whipped towards the teleporter.
The thing- they were wearing a suit, but Shouta couldn’t find any sort of humanistic features on the otherwise cloud of smoke- was standing to the far right of the villains, near where the boys had previously been tied up.
“Young Master-” the villain began to speak, only for the teenager to hiss at him, “Shut up, Kurogiri. We’ll take out Eraserhead and his friends… And then we’ll go find those meddlesome brats, and we’ll take them out, too… One by one…” Head tilting to the side, a feral grin on his crackling features, the teen said, “I liked the winged one’s guts. Maybe we’ll draft him to our side… Or, at the very least, I’ll kill him last. I like to wring the bright ones out… Their screams are more beautiful that way.”
A shiver went down Shouta’s spine, and he grit his teeth in a snarl, but said nothing. This… this was a true villain.
Utter rage was flowed through Shouta’s veins, and his eyes felt hot with the force of his Quirk burning behind them. That, along with the righteous fury of having his son- both of his sons- be attacked and injured by the bastards in front of him.
He was going to fucking end them.
The teenager cackled. “Oh, so you’re the strong and silent type! Fine, then…” Raising a hand towards Eraserhead, the teen called out, “Kurogiri. Make them scream for me.”
“Yes, Young Master.”
A portal began opening up at Shouta’s feet, but he was ready for it this time. Grabbing Miss Joke’s uninjured arm, they leapt out of the way of the portal. Turning his head, Shouta shot his Quirk at the smoky figure. But this time, something was… different.
Be it the rage flowing through his veins, or some kind of adrenaline from the fight and the pain, but Shouta felt something… different.
His eyes were burning red, his hair lifted above his head, as he glared at the figure- Kurogiri- and watched in horror as the smoke began to dissipate around the figure’s face.
His stomach dropped.
“N-No,” Shouta croaked, his voice wavering as he saw a familiar plastered nose and half of a pale face. “That’s… that’s not possible.”
“Kurogiri!” the teenager positively screeched. “I said end them!”
“Y-Y-Young M-Master-” Kurogiri’s voice stuttered as he struggled, the smoke around him slowly fading away. Shouta could see all of Kurogiri’s face now, and he felt the urge to vomit when he saw-
“Oboro,” Shouta choked out.
And then, he blinked.
It was another drawback of his Quirk. Shouta had to blink eventually.
Immediately, the smoke returned to Kurogiri’s- to Oboro’s- face, and the cloudy figure turned to the teenager and Overhaul. “Young Master, a tactful retreat would be best.” The figure’s- it can’t be him, it can’t- voice was still strained, but stronger now that Shouta wasn’t latched onto him anymore.
Shouta couldn’t latch on anymore.
He was in shock.
It can’t be… It’s not possible .
Another portal appeared, this time in the wall opposite of where they were standing. The teenager slipped through, but not before turning a wistful and wicked glare back at Shouta.
“We’ll meet again, Eraserhead… I’m sure of it.”
Kurogiri followed through the swirling portal, and then-
“Eraserhead!” Kamui Wood’s voice called out. He sent out Lacquered Chain Prison once more, grabbing Overhaul right before the man could enter the portal.
Overhaul screamed in rage, creeping a hand towards Kamui’s arm-
But Erasure took care of that.
Miss Joke was surging forward, slapping Quirk-cancelling cuffs onto Overhauls wrists before the man could even blink.
The portal disappeared, taking the teenager and Kurogiri with it.
“Fuck,” Shouta hissed out, letting his Quirk drop as he fell to one knee, panting for breath. “Fuck.”
Miss Joke turned to Shouta, not a hint of a smile on her face. “You… knew him, didn’t you, Eraser?”
“I…” Shouta started, voice fading.
Did he know him?
Was that thing… really Oboro?
Before Shouta could think of a proper response, there was a tinny crackling in his ear, and Tensei’s voice popped over on the earpiece.
“Guys, we need to get these kids to the hospital- now. It’s… Shouta, it’s Izuku. He doesn’t… look good.”
Shouta’s heart clenched, his gut turning cold. “Joke, you and Kamui take Overhaul to the police. They should be arriving soon-”
“Go,” Joke replied shortly. Then, she smiled. It was a soft, gentle smile, nothing like her usual manic grins. “Go take care of our boys, Shouta.”
Shouta could only nod, darting off and out of the bar after his kids.
…
Izuku was… worse for wear.
All of the boys were. Tenya’s engines had experienced Quirk exhaustion to the point of bleeding, and his eardrums had been ruptured from Izuku’s use of Voice. Hitoshi’s eardrums had suffered the same, and the boy had a severe enough concussion that he had to get several MRI’s done to report the damage. However, the both of them would make a full recovery, to everyone’s collective relief.
The worst, by far, were Shoto’s and Izuku’s injuries.
Shoto had suffered from the teenager’s disintegrating Quirk- the same one that had nearly taken Shouta’s elbow cap off- and nearly lost his entire arm. Fortunately, due to the same Quirk that had redone Keigo’s spine, Shoto’s arm was saved.
As for Izuku…
The boy’s entire leg had been unwound, the spiral lacerations cutting through his skin down to the bone, making flesh flop around uselessly as he bled and bled and bled-
Shouta had been terrified that the boy would bleed out before they made it to the hospital.
The young teen’s arm had been disintegrated a way, too, just like Shoto’s. Only Izuku’s wounds spread from his wrist, not his shoulder. His entire hand and wrist- healed by that poor, likely Quirk-exhausted doctor- was covered in thin, crackling scars that looked like lightning bolts. Shoto’s shoulder looked much of the same. The scars on Izuku’s leg were easier to heal- the skin hadn’t been dried up and decomposed like his wrist- but they still stood out like little white spirals.
As he made his way to Keigo’s room, Shouta fought the urge to have a conscious thought.
He just… He couldn’t think about it right now.
He might just break if he did.
When he got to the room, Shouta saw that Hizashi was sitting by Keigo’s side, one hand holding onto their son’s while the other carded through the young man’s hair. Hizashi was immediately alert, standing up and crossing over to his husband, pulling Shouta into a bone-crushing hug- mindful of the sling that the other man’s arm was encased in- and kissed Shouta’s cheeks and forehead frantically.
“Are you alright?” Hizashi finally asked, sounding out of breath.
Shouta couldn’t help but smile. He loved his sons dearly, and they always came first- nothing would ever change that- but… He had loved Hizashi first. Hizashi’s love was all-encompassing, poured into everything the man did. And he poured it into Shouta, like a pitcher filling a plant’s soil, with every breath he took and word he spoke.
Shouta had fallen for Hizashi a long time ago, but- staring into the protective, worried face of a loving, doting father- he felt that he could fall in love with him again and again.
“They’re alive,” Shouta replied. “But… worse for wear.”
As he gave a run-down of all of the boys’ injuries, mentioning that Shoto had just gotten out of surgery and Izuku was still in the operating room, Hizashi seemed to deflate. With every word, the blonde clutched tighter and tighter at his husband’s shoulders, until the touch felt bruising.
“Hey,” Shouta crooned, his tone so uncharacteristic of him. It was enough to get Hizashi to look up at him, green and brown eyes filled to the brim with tears. Shouta reached up with his good hand to wipe a stray one away, leaning forward slowly to place a kiss upon Hizashi’s lips. “They’re going to be fine, alright? I brought them home.”
They would have to talk, of course.
About Izuku’s and Shoto’s impulsiveness and dragging their friends into danger, about the implications of running after a fucking supervillain, about the definition of vigilantism and how it could hurt their futures…
About Oboro.
But that could all wait.
For now, Shouta stood in the embrace of his husband, feeling the cold in his gut finally recede.
They were going to be alright.
…
