    Rumi shrugs, feeling raw and exposed in the way she always does after kneeling for them.

    Loosely interconnected and featureing certain consistent concepts throughout - like the fact that the Honmoon is semi-sentient, Huntr/x are basically soulmates, and oh, of course, dog-motive Rumi :)

    Part IV - Technically canon compliant, Huntr/x explicitly as soulmates.
    Part V - Canon divergence, Mira and Zoey remembering moments they had with Rumi after her death.

    This takes place in a mostly canon timeline, with no major LN spoilers (but characters like Chue appear). The only major difference in the timeline is Gyokyou DOES NOT have kids and ANIME SPOILER - is NOT Empress (Jinmao fans enjoy!)

    The setup for this is inspired by The Worth of a Life. I used ChatGPT to help write the story and expand my vision, but the storyline and character arcs are all directly controlled by me

    Near the end of her pregnancy Concubine Gyokuyou is attacked in the middle of the night. Maomao steps in to defend her and while fighting for her life ends up taking the life of the attacker while sustaining serious injuries.

    While Jinshi steps in to care for her physically, Maomao deals with the mental turmoil of taking a life.

    With Maomao vulnerable and Jinshi doing his best to be patient with her, something begins to bloom between them.

    Complete self-indulgent slow-burn/fluff because I'm sad we didn't get it when Maomao saved Jinshi.

    I truly think that Maomao has all the attributes needed (except a lack of morals) to be an assassin and couldn't get the idea out of my head.
