Chapter Text
Who were these popular girls? Poppy turned to the left. Everyone stepped aside, leaving a clear pathway for the two Trolls to come across. One Troll with burnt orange, curly hair and marigold yellow skin repeated the same phrase to everyone, calling out their names (Gia and Jessie), putting on her lip-gloss, taking a selfie.
Who is that girl? Poppy gazed at the Troll with sparkly, dark magenta hair and light pink skin as she sashayed through the hallway, pushing those who blocked her way, thanking those who complimented her, going to the direction where Poppy stood.
“Make way, princess coming through. Princess Jessie of Sparklestown,” Jessie said.
Poppy squealed, jumped, and twirled around. Oh my gosh. What a coincidence for us to be princesses. Just imagine all the things we could do…shopping together…partying…scrapbooking…and have amazing sleepovers. I think I found the perfect friend to hang out with. We can be best princess friends forever. BPFF for short. And we’ll be in the same classes together, and today will be the day for us to…
“Earth to Poppy.”
Poppy shook her head, facing Branch. “Huh?”
Branch shrugged. “Why don’t you go over and talk to Jessie. I bet she’ll be happy for you to be your friend.”
Her friend? But what about Branch? But what about what she had experienced with him? Rejection, her invitation, his harsh words. She might not consider it, although she believed he has some good inside of him, including happiness. But what about Jessie? Could she be the friend she had always dreamed of having? Or was it just a dream?
Poppy rubbed her eyes. “Question, Branch. Did you see that girl with light purple eyelashes?”
“That spoiled girl? Yes, she left two minutes ago. But why…”
Poppy left him in the dust, dashing through the school hallway. She planned to come back to him later. But for now, she hoped she didn’t miss Jessie being around. How rude it would be if she didn’t greet her in a princess manner, since she was a princess after all. How should she approach her? Before she could answer that, Jessie was there, but a bit too close because Poppy accidentally bumped into her, making her fall to the ground.
Everyone gasped, and another Troll said oh my god.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry, Jess,” Poppy said, helping her out.
“No worries, Princess Poppy”—Jessie swung her hair at Poppy—“and a little princess advice? Watch where you’re going. Hmph.”
Jessie left her. Poppy frowned a bit. Why did she snap at her like that? Of course, it had to be when she bumped into her. It was her fault.
Branch came over to her. “Oh, how are you two bonding? Are you really planning to be best friends forever with that diva? The one who told the others to back off, who shoved them out of the way, and who is a drama queen?”
“You’re wrong about her, Branch.”
“I saw all that happening in one sitting for thirty seconds while you were taking a trip to dream world.”
“You probably made that up.”
Ring.
“Thanks, you made me late,” Branch said, tucking more on his hoodie, leaving.
Poppy grabbed her pencil case, book, and another invitation and followed Branch, assuming that he was going to Homeroom. Branch has no idea about what friendship is like. High school is a place to start friendships. I’m going to prove Branch wrong. Jessie must be the perfect friend for me, and we will become best friends today. No. Best Princess Friends Forever.
