“AH! Where is it? Where is it? Brothers, where is it? Come on I’ve only got…” Izuku looks at the clock in the corner of the room, “5 MINUTES! Come on. Come on!” Jaune looks up from the comic he’s reading already wearing his tux.
“You know Izuku you’re normally a lot more prepared than this.” Jaune hides behind his comic as Izuku quickly sends a glare his way.
“Well, normally I would be it's just… it’s…” Jaune pops up again with a smirk on his face.
“It’s just that you spent all afternoon in a daze after Ruby asked you out?” Izuku turns to pout at Jaune trying to think of a response but nothing comes to him.
“So what if I was? When Pyrrha asked you out the first time you were comatose for a week!” Jaune shrinks behind his comic.
“Touche Izuku, Touche.” throwing down his comic Jaune jumps off the bed, “anyway what are you looking for Izuku?” continuing to rifle through his trunk Izuku eventually responds to Jaune.
“My bowtie, I can’t find my Brother’s damned bow tie!” Frustrated at his inability to find the tie Izuku flips over his trunk emptying its contents on the floor of the dorm. Jaune walks over to his trunk before talking.
“Oh, you just need a bow tie? You should’ve said something, I’ve got a bunch of them. Here you go.” walking over to Izuku Jaune hands him a dark green bow tie, “Look even matches your hair.”
“Oh, thank the Brothers Jaune you are a lifesaver.” quickly doing up the bowtie Izuku glances at the clock again, “whew and still a minute until Ruby is supposed to come here.” turning to face Jaune, Izuku puts his hands by his sides. “Well, how do I look?” Izuku stands in the middle of the dorm wearing a brown striped suit, a cream shirt and his usual chunky red sneakers.
“Looking great Izuku! How do I look?” Jaune strikes a pose displaying his tux. Jaune’s tux unlike Izuku’s is a standard black and white with a matching bowtie.
“You look great Jaune, I’m sure that Pyrrh- -KNOCK-” Izuku glances at the clock, “Oh geez that’ll be Ruby.” Jaune walks to the door and stops with his hand on the doorknob.
“Well, I’ll go see Pyrrha then and leave you to your date Izuku.” walking through the door Jaune nods his head at Ruby on the other side before leaving, “seeya kids.”
Izuku hears Ruby’s voice through the closed door, “Urgh Jaune! I’m only two years younger than you!.” Jaune’s response is also audible through the door.
“Sure Ruby, your boy toy is waiting by the way.”
“Urgh! He isn’t my- oh and he’s gone. Whew, deep breaths Ruby.” Izuku dashes towards the door as Ruby knocks again.
“Ruby hiiiii… whoah…” Izuku is rendered speechless by the sight in front of him. Reflexively he takes in what Ruby was wearing. It was a short, red, sleeveless dress with a black sash around her midsection matching the black trim on the bottom. The bodice was split like a corset with black lacing. The dress then also had an opaque yoke with a black collar and two black bands connecting the bodice and the collar. Finally, on her legs, she had black tights leading into black and red pumps making her as tall as Izuku.
“Hi, Izuku” Ruby waves at Izuku who is still frozen in shock from the sight of Ruby dressed up. Ruby stares pouting as Izuku still doesn’t react, finally, Ruby has enough and snaps her fingers in his face.
“Oh whoah uh Hi Ruby you look… amazing… wow” even though Izuku can speak again, his mind is still in complete disarray while Ruby’s face turns crimson at his comment.
“Oh hehe, you look great too Izuku. So um are you ready to go?” Izuku steps towards Ruby before stopping suddenly.
“Oh just one sec I uh just need to grab something, I’ll be right back.” Izuku dashes back into the dorm and Ruby slowly follows him back in her eyes noticing the mess Izuku made earlier.
“Wow, so what hurricane went through here?” walking over to her with a hand behind his back Izuku sheepishly rubbed the back of his head.
“Oh uh I was looking for my bowtie, I didn’t end up finding it, Jaune lent me one of his.” Ruby snickers before placing a hand on Izuku’s chest.
“Well, it uh looks good on you. Maybe you should try and see if he’ll let you keep it.” Ruby blushes while Izuku continues rubbing the back of his head.
“Yeah uh maybe. Anyway, I uh got you a present, I hope you like it.” bringing his hand from behind his back Ruby sees a red flower in his hand, lifting his hand Ruby hears Izuku’s voice, much softer than earlier, “mind if I?” the question is unspoken but Ruby tilts her head towards Izuku and nods. Lifting the flower Izuku places it in Ruby’s hair just above her left ear. “There you go. All done.”
Lifting her head Ruby angles herself so she can see her hair in the mirror, “wow that looks so nice Izuku. Thank you.” Izuku blushes before replying.
“Yeah it's a carnation, they're supposed to represent deep affection so I got one for you, and um I thought it matches your hair.” Ruby lets out a squeak before speaking.
“Aww, It's so cute and you are so cute. But we should get going or we’ll be late.” Izuku glances at the clock.
“Oh yeah you’re right Ruby we should get going.” Izuku extends his arm to Ruby who takes it before the two leave the dorm.
♪ Baby, it's time to make up your mind, I think that tonight is when our stars align, Honey, it's time we leave the doubt behind, Take my hand 'cause you and I are gonna shine ♪
The music bursts through Beacon Academy’s auditorium driving the individuals inside to move their bodies to the rhythm. Everyone at Befcaon is currently dancing and most of them have paired off into couples, from the couples that have been together for ages, like Jaune and Pyrrha, the two teens burning up the dance floor in a fast waltz led by Pyrrha, and then Coco and Velvet who taking a break from dancing, are hanging out by the punch bowl.
♪ I was cold in the dark, It was empty in my life, From the outside, it looked so bright, But nothing felt right to me ♪
Then there are also the newer couples, like Blake and Yang the two currently participating competing at the Limbo, Yang's competitiveness meeting a match with Blake's feline flexibility. Cinder and Momo are another couple tearing up the dance floor. The two currently doing the Tango together, all while Momo’s face does its best impression of a tomato yet still it was split wide in a smile.
♪ Like a sky with no sun, Like a night that has no day, My heart was eclipsed by the dark, Then something changed ♪
The couple drawing all the attention though is Izuku and Ruby, now that might be because the two are awkwardly fidgeting in the middle of the dance floor or… it might be because Izuku was wearing a brown striped suit to a dance who could know? But all that matters is even with the attention and awkward fidgeting each teen is enjoying themself too bad they doubt the other is.
♪ I saw a little ray of light come through, The tiniest of sparks came into view, And then, You made me hope again ♪
“Are you sure you’re enjoying yourself, Ruby? Do you want some punch? I can go grab you some punch if you want. Coco and Velvet seem to like it.” after yelling over the music Izuku points over his shoulder to Coco and Velvet, still standing by the punch bowl talking to each other.
♪I've been watching you, helping you, Wishing that you'd see, That the girl you've been waiting so long for could be me♪
“No, it’s fine. I mean maybe later we could grab some. Together, but I’m enjoying just being here with you Izuku, are you? I mean are you having fun?” Ruby yells back, slightly anxious that Izuku isn’t enjoying dancing as much as she is.
♪Now, I've never been in love, But I think this is it, It might be just a school girl crush, But I have to admit♪
“What of course I am! Even if we weren’t boyfriend girlfriend now I’ve loved spending time with you ever since you bowled me over on our first day.” Izuku and Ruby both stop their awkward shuffling, moving closer to each other, Izuku even trusts his gut instinct and puts his arms around Ruby’s waist pulling her body closer.
♪I wanna take a chance and make you see, I think that you're the one who'll rescue me, This time, You're finally gonna see you should be mine♪
“Hey, I apologised for that! You don’t need to bring it up!” Ruby pouts at Izuku while wrapping her arms around Izuku’s shoulders.
♪But baby, it's time to make up your mind, I think that tonight is when our stars align, Honey, it's time to leave the doubt behind, Take my hand 'cause you and I are gonna shine♪
“Hey, I wasn’t saying it was a bad thing. Imagine how much worse it would be if you hadn’t bowled me over Ruby? Neptune might’ve been bothering you like he is Weiss.” at the mention of her other teammate Ruby looks over to where Izuku gestures with a tilt of his head...
♪I won't need any dreams, It's all there if you're by my side, Every moment's enough, And you take me to paradise♪
“Yannow I would’ve thought he’d gotten the hint by now Izuku. But I guess not, too bad he’s not as cute as you.” Izuku blushes at the compliment before swiftly returning it like a tennis pro.
♪When I needed a hero, you knew it, And you were there, And I'm scared, but I'll open my heart up, I'm ready to dare♪
“O-Or you.” Ruby’s blush grows to match Izuku’s the two teens slowly move closer together still swaying to the music.
♪I know I've never felt like this before, I never really knew what love was for, I dreamed, But never did believe♪
“I never noticed how cute your freckles are before Izuku, especially when you’re blushing. It's like they're strawberry seeds or something.” Izuku's blush intensifies causing his freckles to pop out even more just as Ruby describes causing her to giggle.
♪But baby, it's time to make up your mind, I think that tonight is when our stars align, Honey, right now we leave the doubt behind, Take my hand 'cause you and I are gonna, Light the sky until it's dawn and, Baby, you and I are gonna shine♪
“Yeah, I know what you mean. I never realized how pretty your eyes are. Especially this close." Now it’s Ruby’s turn for her blush to intensify although after complimenting her Izuku’s eyes darted to the side. “Hey, Ruby?” as Izuku speaks up the song changes, shifting from the intense energy of the previous song to one much slower, a speed quickly matched by the swaying of Ruby and Izuku.
♪Hush your cries, close your eyes, Stay with me, Let's just dream, Quietly, Of what might be♪
“Yes, Izuku?” Ruby looks deep into Izuku’s eyes waiting for an answer.
♪Calm your fear, I'll be near, To you I'll cling, Rest my friend, Time can mend, Many things♪
Taking a deep breath before speaking Izuku whispers under his breath to Ruby, “why is Yang glaring at me like that?” Izuku tilts his head to the corner of the room and Ruby follows it, seeing Yang standing with Blake next to the punch bowl, glaring rather intensely at Izuku. The sight causes a giggle to rise out of Ruby leading to Izuku just staring confused.
♪I don't know the answers, Tomorrow's still unknown, But I can make this promise, You won't be alone♪
“Don’t worry Izuku. Yang’s just in ‘Big Sis’ mode and UBER protective after this morning.” Ruby takes one hand off Izuku’s shoulders and pats his cheek, “but you’ve got nothing to worry about, I’ll protect you.” Instinctively Izuku leans into Ruby’s hand his eyes closing slightly causing Ruby’s cheeks to redden yet again and a smile to ghost her lips.
♪I don't know, Where we should go, Just feeling farther from our goal, I don't know, What path we will be shown, But I know that when I'm with you I'm at home♪
“Guess I’m in your hands then hu Ruby.” Izuku smiles at Ruby continuing to sway to the beat of the music.
♪ Yes, I know that when I'm with you I'm at home ♪
“Guess you are Izuku. Guess you are…” the two stop talking, just dancing together and smiling softly.
♪But even when we stumble, And someday when we fall, What I will remember, That I had you through it all♪
The two continue dancing, for what seems like an eternity, each teen lost in the eyes and smiles of the other. All that matters to them is the rhythm of the music and the face in front of them. Eventually, Ruby’s heels get to her and she drags Izuku off of the dance floor over to the punch bowl which had been vacated by Yang and Blake earlier in the night.
♪Check you out in your big metal shoe, Fighting so many kids, don't know what to do, You got some heavy metal, but big ain't bad, This little riding hood's just way too rad♪
“Whew, you -hu- have -hu- a lot -hu- of -hu- energy Ruby it’s impressive.” Izuku slumps into a seat next to Ruby who’s slowly taking her shoes off trying not to aggravate any blisters.
♪Mirror, mirror, who will lose it all?, Soundly whip those children or your cradle's gonna fall♪
“-hu- please -hu- Izuku -hu- you were -hu- matching me -hu- the entire time. Although -hu- whew I think we should think about heading Izuku because Yang hasn’t stopped staring… I think she wants to give you the shovel talk.” at Ruby’s prompting, Izuku looks over his shoulder where Yang is visible cracking her knuckles.

Izuku looks back to Ruby taking her hands in his, “are you sure I can handle Y-Y-Yang’s -gulp- Yang’s shovel talk if you want to stay longer.” now Ruby’s feet were killing her way too much to want to stay at the dance any longer but Ruby’s self-sacrificial offer did make her think of something and a smirk to come to her lips.
♪Best get nimble and you better be quick
Or I'm gonna break your bones with some stones and sticks
Run, run, run, run just as fast as you can
You better make a wish like the fisherman♪
“No, I’m fine Izuku… but you know it would be nice if my dashing handsome boyfriend carried me-” Ruby doesn’t get the chance to finish the sentence because Izuku sweeps her up in his arms. “EEP! IZUKU! Don’t do that so quickly!” softly slapping Izuku Ruby looks around the room making sure they haven’t made a scene. But they had, “Izuku run! Izuku head to your dorm or something Yang is storming over here!” looking where Ruby is pointing it was easy for Izuku to see Yang who was in full protective big sister mode.
♪Ashes, ashes guess who's falling down, Sparring in glass slippers and you're bound to break, your crown♪
Looking down at Ruby Izuku gives her a strained smile, “Hold on Ruby.” tucking her head into his shoulder Ruby holds on tight as Izuku starts, surprisingly well considering he’s in a suit. Narrowly the two teens manage to escape Yang who in response just stands pouting next to the punch with Blake, eventually getting back into the party mood.
Eventually, Ruby and Izuku are standing outside of Team RWBY’s dorm room awkwardly staring at each, neither willing to speak up and end their night together. “Um, so I guess this is it hu Ruby.” yet again Izuku rubs the back of his head not willing to meet Ruby’s eyes.
Needling her foot into the ground Ruby replies “Um I guess although um I was wondering… if… um, you wanted to…” Ruby trails off, her voice too low for Izuku to hear.
“Sorry I couldn’t hear you, Ruby?” Izuku leans over slightly once again taller than Ruby since she’d taken off her heels.
“Um, if I grabbed my PJs wouldyouwannasleeptogetherImeannotinmydormbecauseYangwouldkillusbutwecouldprobablydoitinyourssodoyouwannaImeannotsexjustsleepinginthesamebed?” Izuku barely manages to catch what Ruby says and his face explodes into crimson. He tries to say something but the words catch in his throat and then… Ruby pulls out the puppy eyes, making it even worse!
“Eh-Uh-Um ye-uh” Izuku stops himself and takes a deep breath before finally managing to squeak out a response, “Yes, I’d love to sleep with you Ruby, I mean I know you just mean sleeping in the same bed... Not that I wouldn’t want to sleep with you, wait but I’m not trying to force you into sleeping with me if you do-” Izuku stops talking as Ruby puts a finger across his lips.
“Hey, you goof stop I’m not worried about that. Just give me a sec, I’ll get changed and then you can run us over to your dorm… wait your dormmates won’t mind will they?” Ruby lifts her finger so Izuku can talk again.
“No Jaune and Pyrrha sleep together anyway and I have a feeling Momo might not be sleeping in our dorm tonight.” Ruby breaks into a wide grin.
“Great I’ll be right back!” Ruby bursts into her dorm using her semblance and as Izuku moves to lean against the wall to wait for her Ruby bursts back out in a storm of rose petals. Ruby had changed out of her dress and was now instead wearing a black tank top decorated with a pink heart that had fangs and red eyes along with a white pair of pants decorated with pink roses and finally a black sleep mask with red eyes.
Yet again the mere sight of Ruby shocks Izuku leading him to blurt out what he’s thinking, “how do you look so cute all the time?” quickly Izuku realises what he said and rubs the back of his head, “-cough- anyway ready to go?”
“Chuff Yep let's go you goof if you keep complimenting me like that I might melt though.”Ruby jumps up Izuku barely managing to catch her before she points off into the distance, “Forward steed!”
“-snicker- ok then” almost immediately Izuku walks away from Team RWBY’s dorm and makes his way to Team JIMP’s dorm.
“Well, here we are Ruby.” Izuku pushes open the dorm room door Izuku gently carries Ruby into the dorm. Ruby jumps out of Izuku’s arms diving into his bed and under the covers allowing Izuku to change into his own Pajamas, A black tank top and grey sweatpants.
Lifting the covers Ruby gestures towards her, “come on Izuku jump in!” wandering over Izuku nudges Ruby over and slides in next to her.
“Ok, I’m here. Although I do just want to again tell you how much fun I’ve had tonight and how glad I am that you rec-” in the middle of baring his heart out a noise interrupts Izuku.
“-Wah-pe-pe-pe-pe- -Wa-pe-pe-pe-pe-” looking over Izuku sees Ruby had fallen asleep on his chest, sliding down the sleep mask to cover her eyes and placing a soft kiss to her forehead Izuku smiles softly, “goodnight Ruby. see you in the morning.” slowly Izuku drifts off to the land of sleep and if his dreams were filled with the girl sleeping right next to him?
Who really cares?
