Chapter 6: Homecoming

Chapter Text

Koby shielded his eyes from the late afternoon sun as he stepped outside as one of their ships came into port. Helmeppo was right by his side. The duo made their way down to the docks, greeting their fellow Marines as they passed by. Many were happy to return the greeting, offering some congratulations to Koby if they were aware of the news that had spread rapidly after the incident just two weeks earlier. Others were friendly but were giving the two a wide berth. Worried that they would face the same wrath that Koby had unleashed when he thought his child was in danger. Even if they were fellow Marines and knew that they meant no harm to Koby or his unborn child.

It was likely better if they kept their distance. Easier to monitor those that did approach and determine if they would be a threat and taken care of in a manner that did not involve breaking an arm. So far, there had been no other incidents of someone strange approaching Koby and trying to get him to go somewhere with them. For who knows what reasons. Koby was sure they were likely nefarious.

When they reached where the ship was docked, the pier was like a hive of disturbed bees. Bodies bustled this way and that, unloading anything that was not to be kept on the ship or heading off in a hurry to report to where they needed it to be. They stayed out of their way as they kept an eye out for one person in particular.

Koby could feel his heart fluttering with nervousness. While he was so ready to see his boyfriend again, he was still worried that he would not be supportive of the pregnancy. Despite what had been said on the phone. The nervous energy coursing through him only increased tenfold when he spotted a very familiar man making his way at through the crowd. Koby raised his hand and waved to let him know where they were.

The harsh expression on his face immediately melted into one of fondness when he spotted Koby. It did not take him long to weave his way over once he knew where they were. “Koby…” He greeted as he tugged the smaller man into an embrace. “Are you… and the baby feeling okay..?” He asked.

Koby wrapped his arms around him, burying his face against him. Neither cared who saw them at the moment. Despite everything they had done to keep it a secret, it didn’t matter now. Not when they had a child on the way. “We’re fine… Just a little morning sickness. Nothing I can’t handle.” Helmeppo hung back to let the two have their moment. It had been a while since they had seen each other after all.

“Good... I heard about what happened...” Drake continued, carefully pulling away from Koby to look at him then look him over again for anything that might be wrong. Anything that the pink-haired man might try to hide from him.

“I’m fine.” Koby reassured him, taking his hand to lead him to the base. So they could catch up somewhere more private and to get away from all the people that were trying to work. “They couldn’t get anything out of the guy... But his arm was healing up okay and security has been increased... Just a little.”

“Where is he now?” Drake asked, matching Kobys’ pace so he did not leave him behind. He did not care that the man was healing. He was lucky that Drake had not been there with what his instincts wanted to do to him for daring to hurt his boyfriend and their child. He then glanced at Helmeppo, thankful that the man had been around to help keep an eye on Koby. “I noticed the security... Thank you.” He said genuinely before he returned his attention to his shorter partner.

“They moved him off base this week. A few days before we got word of when you all were set to arrive...” Koby answered truthfully. “I’m not sure where they sent him, but I doubt it’s anywhere good.”

“I see...” Drake said, but he left the subject alone. Especially when they reached Kobys’ quarters. Helmeppo would leave the two alone so they could discuss their next steps in privacy. He knew Koby was safe, at least. Knowing Drake, he would not let a single thing happen to his precious pink. Especially not now.

Koby made it two steps after closing the door before Drake was wrapping his arms around him and pulling him close once more. There is a content little sigh, a rumble akin to a purr then the larger man is slowly relaxing. “I missed you…”

“I missed you too…” Koby smiled as he wrapped his arms around Drake in return, finding the noise he had made to be adorable. “Sorry that I dragged you away from your mission.”

“You have nothing to apologize for...” Drake murmured, pressing a kiss to Kobys head as he finally let him go. For now, at least. It was hard to talk when you were trapped in a tight hug. “I told you. It is more important for me to be here with you rather than out there...” There was a moment of silence then Drake was speaking again. “How far along are you?” He asked.

“I know... I know.” Koby nodded, trying to reassure himself. “I’m not... entirely sure. Maybe eight weeks..?”

Drake nodded in understanding. “That’s not too far along… You’re sure… you want to keep them?” He asked, looking at Koby with worried but serious eyes. Like his boyfriend, he had likely been thinking of all the ways that this could go horribly wrong. Especially knowing that there were people seeking to snatch Koby.

There was no hesitation in Kobys’ answer. “I’m sure.” His hand came to rest on his mostly flat middle. Koby had noticed earlier in the day that his clothing was getting tight. Which meant that their little critter would soon be visible from the outside. He would be lying if the thought didn’t make him a little giddy. “I… thought pretty hard about it before making my decision.” Koby admitted. “Even if you decided you wanted nothing to do with me because of it…”

Drake’s arms were around him immediately. “You don’t have to worry about that. I’m not going anywhere. I promise…”

“I know.” Koby tugged him down to kiss his cheek sweetly. “Especially when I have your tail curled around me.” His tone was teasing, loving.

The appendage was immediately pulled away, an apology already slipping from Drake’s lips that was kissed away by gentle lips.

That night, they took the time to catch up and plan their unknown future with a baby that would come to them soon.
