Chapter Text
Keigo knew his forehead had been wet for the last 18-hours, but at least now it was because Enji was wipping his sweat with a damp cloth and not because his body was warmer and sweat-er than when training with the comission. He laughed. Or more like tried to.
Enji stiffened, "The contractions are getting closer, just try to rest a bit more before pushing."
"I know big guy," he gave him his best pro smile, "I´m handling it like a champ." Keigo drowned the need to scream with the next contraction, hoping to look relaxed.
The obstetrician and midwife -Adia, a nice lady in her mid sixties with almost 40 years of experience and a minor soothing-healing quirk- brought a cup with ice chips to Keigo's lips. "You most certainly are." She keep the cup to his lips until the pain passed and he finally could chew some of it, "I'm going to check you once more, but I feel that is definetely going to be the last, even if you are still not feeling the need to push. Are you ready?"
"Born ready, baby."
Enji hold his hand, and sat even closer to Keigo, though since they were both sitting press together in the bed -Keigo more laying than sitting- it wasn't much difference.
He half chuckled, "Wait does that count as a pun?" he smiled, ignoring the knots in his throat and how Adia was lifting his robe and looking between his legs, "I can come up with a better one, just give a sec. I'm going to make so many dad-jokes."
Enji scoffed, but was smiling, lighter than he had been in hours, "wait for our child before you st-"
"It's time Hawks." He and Enji went quiet.
"I need you to push." She commanded with a soft voice.
Maybe it was her quirk, or maybe it was a weird evolutionary thing, or giving birth wasn't that different of hero-ing, but suddenly his head cleared.
He pushed. It was like someone was crumpling a sheet of paper into a ball but the paper was his gut. His crotch was on fire. It was too much, it was too much.
Enji was talking right next to his ear but he couldn´t hear shit, was he still pushing?
"Stop pushing, breathe a little, and hold a bit more." Adia smiled at him, "The little guy will be here in a few more pushes and neither of you will need surgery."
He breathed again, he had stopped pushing and he wasn't on fire, just in a lot of the pain below. Enji kissed his cheek -which was fully gross and sweaty- so Keigo got quickly how worried Enji truly was.
"-" His throat was sore, did he scream? He saw Enji´s hand still holding, now both hands white as a ghost due to how hard he had been squeezing.
He felt something in the mess of what feel like a just a bunch of pain, he looked at dr. Adia and she smiled again, nodding slightly.
"He's-" his throath was sore, but his heart was burting so much he die and revived, "he's here. I mean he's not but-" his voice sounded like shit. It was hoarse and it sounded about to cry -he was about to cry-.
Enji smiled brightly at him, kissing his forehead -sweaty again-
"Hawks if you want to touch him while he's being born, I will need Endevaour to wash your hands now." They had agreed to that when Enji said he prefered to hold him after Keigo had already hold him and not to help Adia receive the baby, but he was so tired...
He got another kiss in his cheek, "You can hold him inmediately, and we can clean you both while you're resting again." Enji didn't said like a question, but he looked at Adia in the last part, she nodded.
It was a great idea, he needed to hold his baby now, and by how hard the contractions were coming his body agreed.
Keigo didn't cry or thanked him, feeling too much, instead he winked (or tried to, some sweat went straight to his eye), "Try you best to resist my beatiful naked body, Enji, because the Other Big Guy isn't going near me until he has been clipped n' snipped."
He gave him a serious look, but Keigo knew he lip was twiching, "I will try my best to resist." His voice was completely flat, but had his ph in Enji so he just smiled back.
Adia was waiting for him to push, so he did.
He wanted to cry. He was crying. He kept pushing. Was he dying? He couldn't die. Wouldn't. He was just slipting in two.
He throw up, but his body had had only ice chips so it was more basically spit. His legs were dying. That was it , no more Hawks. Sorry for dying on you your birthday and traumatising you for life, like this instead of traumatising you for life with awful parental choices.
Something screamed. And something was out.
Something was out. He closed his eyes.
Why wasn't his child crying.
Keigo had his child in his arms - a small, red, very grumpy, sleep-ish but breathing newborn- Enji was crying with the biggest smile he had ever seen him, which looked creepy but he was so happy he just laughed.
Adia went to his right side and adjust his gown a bit so the baby could have full skin contact and Keigo could feed him, in a few seconds, when his heart wasn't going to exit his chest.. "Heroes are always so rash." She was scolding him but her smile was kind, "He is perfectly fine, a full term baby, roughly 8 pound, probably a bit more, but good weight regardless, and he's breathing perfectly. He just didn't cry and you and your husband went straight from almost passing out to grabbing him as if his life depended on it. And as if I'm not the best at my job." She sounded amused.
Enji was starring intently at their baby, and was kind of side hugging him but from a little behind so Keigo's back was resting on him, the faces were even closer than before, and his hand that was previously holding Keigo's hand, now was holding Keigo's arm, helping with the weight of the baby.
Enji did make a "sligthly ashamed face" at dr. Adia's word, but didn't move.
"It happen with Natsuo, but he was a c-section, I didn't realize..." Enji didn't said more, he was looking at their son, but his gaze had somewhat shifted.
"I'm going to bring the scale, the ruler and even and apgar phamplet if i have one in my briefcase, so you can both relax." she threw her gloves to the trash, "The most likely case is that is a evolutionary protection to not hurt his back, it's not uncommon that babies with physical quirks are born asleep or too relaxed." she went to the other room for her stuff.
Keigo looked at his son and even more tears escaped, his baby had the cutests wing-Ish. Draft of future of wings? They looked- It was-. Now that he was a bit more lucid they looked very Membrane-ish? Unfeathery? Boney? Wait was his baby in pain? The baby would cry if he was though, right?
"He's fine. You heard her." Enji was looking right at him.
"I know" he said, because logically he did, his baby was breathing, and Adia was amazing as obstretitian and as midwife, so if she said their baby was fine, then he really was. It just...
Enji brushed away a few hair of Keigo's forehead, he forced a smiled at Enji, "I love you." His smile was no longer forced, it was always warm -and a bit surreal- when Enji said it.
He kissed him, Enji kissed back, but ended it shortly. "Sleep." He pressed his head to Keigo's, "I will put him in his crib and help Dr. Adia measure him."
Keigo made a laughing, "oooh are working for the Number 1 spot as a parent already?" he tried to move his eyebrow in a suggestive-and-jocking way but he was too tired to be sure if it was working, "Waiting for our son to really wake up and stole the credit of the work of the hero number 2? The tabloids warn me about it big guy."
Enji kissed him again, deeper this time but still shortly. He was technically not smiling but Keigo knew he was.
He moved slightly with the kiss, and his finger could feel more detail in his son's back. There was a knot in his stomach, unrelated to the pain of giving birth, he looked at his baby, still sleep but now less still than before.
"His wings looks different than mine." Keigo said not looking away from the baby's face, keeping his tone as casual as possible, "It's like they are a mix of tiny bones and membrane?"
His husband made an affirmative sound, "They look completely different to yours." He sounded lost in his own thoughts.
Hawks clinged to the fact that newborns freak out if the person holding them freaked out. So he was chill. Incredible calm.
"Do you think he will be sad if he can't fly?" Maybe there was a "would you?" implicit, or maybe not because he trusted Enji, and he was a person constantly changing for the better.
"Yes." His heart stopped, "but he will get over it if he can't." He breathed again, he was going to blame that moment of angst in the fact that he had just given birth and it was painful as hell.
"He's going to be strong, stubborn and a brat, just like you." Enji stared at him in a way that made Keigo just want to kiss him or peck him, just crash his face in Enji's, but he losing the energy to move.
Enji snorted, figuring his thoughts, and gave him a quick kiss.
Keigo now kissed his baby, mentally preparing to let him go and sleep, his body was now protesting the fact that he was awake after the most painfully experience on his life, and that said something if you took in the fact he was tortured a couple years ago.
His eyes were heavy, his heart was feeling better but a tiny knot was still in his gut, "Enji, are you?" He didn't even know how to ask, his brain was getting mushier, he felt Enji's eye but literally couldn't focus on them, "Are you happy?" fuck he didn't meant it like that. He just couldn't explain.
He felt Enji's breathing near his neck, he knew his face was in front of him but making more of it than blurry was-
"Yes." mmh? Wait he had asked him something, "I'm extremely happy Keigo, now please sleep." Enji's voice sounded off but we wasn't going to resist sleeping much longer. He was only properly holding their because Enji was helping him and because at this point his body would stop his heart before dropping him.
He shifted his back so it was easier to pass him to Enji's arms, Enji helped to accomadate the baby a bit more vertically to Keigo's chest so he see him more and it was easier to hand him to Enji.
Their baby cry for the first in his life.
And he burnt a quarter of Keigo chest.
