Chapter Text
Sebastian’s face scrunched up into a frown as he felt around for his wrench. There was a stubborn bolt here that refused to get loose, but he seemed to have misplaced his tool. He resigned himself to sliding out from underneath the motorcycle when he felt a touch of cold metal on his outstretched palm.
“This one, right?” A soft voice asked him. He recognized the farmer’s voice right away. He pulled the tool to his face and saw that it was indeed the wrench.
“Yep, that’s the one.” He pried the stubborn bolt from its place, noting that it was probably the thread that caused it to be so stiff. He’ll look for another one. With that done, he slid smoothly out from underneath the motorcycle and sat up to face the farmer. She was crouched beside his motorcycle, looking at it with an expression of clear interest. He wiped his face with a towel.
“Haven’t seen it before? Well, I guess I don’t usually ride around town. Or show other people, anyway.” He ruffled his hair, half aware of her gaze on his face before it quickly flitted to the motorcycle. She was quiet, like she usually was, and waited for him to continue. Clearly expectant. He felt his tongue loosen as he propped his chin on his palm, knees up. She was still crouching, next to him.
“Some days after sundown, I’ll take the road out of the valley. Quiet days. And it’s amazing. There’s nothing like it. The freedom you feel, like you’re flying towards where you want to go.” He turned his gaze from her focused expression to the setting sun, wistful.
“You know, I’ve always wanted to leave. To go to the city. Once I’ve saved up enough, it’s just gonna be me, the bike, and the road.” In his peripheral vision, he noticed that her expression softened, and almost saddened. He didn’t want to think about the implications of that.
“The city, huh?” She mumbled.
“You… came from there, right? What’s it like?” He asked. She pursed her lips, thinking. She scratched at her cheek before turning to him with a conflicted expression.
“I know to you the city means freedom… But it was stifling for me. I was glad to get away from it.” He hummed thoughtfully.
“You know… Before I leave, maybe I could take you for a ride sometime, if you want.” She blinked at him and gave him a small smile.
“I would love to, but… I’m a little scared of motorcycles.” She admitted sheepishly. He scratched his chin.
“I’ll keep you safe, if that’s what you’re worried about.” Realizing how that sounded, he flushed slightly, but noticed that the farmer was even more flustered than him. A pretty common sight. It was kind of cute, actually.
“Yeah, so. I’ll let you know.” She nodded eagerly, and the two drifted off into comfortable silence.
