Chapter Text
"We're nearly there, Makoton."
The weather, thankfully, wasn't bad. It was warm and clear, a cool breeze darting through the trees. There could be far worse weather for walking for miles.
Gong kept his eyes on the path in front of them, knowing that the fort wasn't too far ahead. He didn't lower his scythe, though- since the recent spats with the Patapons, the possibility of an attack happening at any time kept him vigilant.
He looked back to check on his compatriot, who was currently panting as he almost sluggishly kept following the general. Gong's feet stopped. "You know that we can stop so you can-"
"No, no," Makoton jolted, shaking his hand. "It's.. we're almost there." His spear was held tight in his hand. "We need to get there. Incase of an attack. And we need to keep up with everyone else." Despite his panting, he looked fiercely determined.
Gong looked at him, and then nodded. "Alright, if you say so.. It's just ahead."
Wiping sweat from his fur, Makoton stood up straight. "Yeah. I'll be fine." With one last look, Gong turned and went back to the path.
With that, they kept walking.
"Ragewolf, we made it."
"Oh thank god."
Deep into the humid heat of the jungle, the air echoing with birdsong, the two had been walking for hours. Ravenous was clearly used to the trek and the climate, but considering how Ragewolf had been cooped up in the same cold labyrinth for months, him not so much.
He squinted deep into the green foliage enveloping them, unable to make out much of what they had made it to. "You been living in the trees or something..?" Using his scythe, Ravenous parted some of the leaves. "Look," He said, pointing up. There was the entrance of some sort of hollow up into the side of a cliff, hard to spot amongst all of the plants.
"Ravenous, this is going to be the death of me." Ragewolf muttered.
Eventually, the two had scaled the roots and stone, finally making it to the hollow. Ravenous pulled Ragewolf up by his hand, giving him a second to catch his breath.
The cave was surprisingly big, though it looked smaller due to how cluttered the walls were with rarities that Ravenous still had cluttered away. He coughed. "..Ignore all of that."
..After a moment, Ragewolf flopped down onto the cool floor on his stomach, limbs spreading outward as he panted. "Give.. Give me a second." Ravenous couldn't help the quiet chuckle he made, leaning his scythe against the wall. "You alright?" Ragewolf got himself sitting up, paw covering his face. "Yeah.. Yeah, I'll live." Ravenous patted his back, nodding. "Good."
"Oh, also.. You're bathing later."
Ragewolf groaned even louder.
