Chapter 2: II

Notes:

Just winging it with this fic tbh

Chapter Text

The Yellowjackets were fighting for their lives with guns drawn and bullets flying. Natalie loved whatever this feeling was, adrenaline maybe, but it didn't feel real. Almost fabricated.

Natalie soon came to reality and was no longer seeing her fellow teammates as violence hunger outlaws that lived a chaotic lifestyle in the west. Now she winced at the sunlight that shot at her face through her window. Natalie then stretched her head around to see the time on her twenty four hour clock alarm which sat on her rugged bed side table.

13:18

Her whole body might as well have plummeted six feet under at that point. Like there's no fucking way she slept in that late. Natalie suddenly was now standing up frantically looking for her usual clothes she put on for school and then took a glance back at the clock.

Wait a minute.

The fucking thing wasn't blinking like it normally did. Natalie totally forgot it was broken.

She then poked open her bedroom door and squinted her eyes to see what time it was on the living room clock they had hanging on the wall.

Fifteen minutes past seven.

Great. Natalie could work with that, she shut over her bedroom door. She only had to get dressed, clean herself up a bit and walk to school all within fifteen minutes, great.

Five minutes went by and Natalie had brushed her teeth, washed her face and set out clothes she was going to wear on her bed. Six minutes went by and now Natalie was presentable wearing black jeans, an Nirvana t-shirt and a black leather jacket paired with her black doc martens. The next minute she was out the door mentally preparing for her rushed walk to school.

It was a crisp morning. The trees swayed slightly with the brisk wind, the same trees that were starting to change from dull colours to bright oranges and reds. There were only a few clouds in the sky but nothing that could take away from the shine and slight warmth of the Autumn sun.

In Jackie's mind it was a wonderful morning. She got to experience it all from the passenger seat of Shauna's car. Where she bobbed her head along to a song that she had put on, a song which was upbeat and had some incredible lyrics.

Jackie bends down and rummages through her school bag to whip out some new lip stick and the same old grey mirror. Shauna glanced over as her interest was peaked and her expression was one of surprised and intrigued.

"What is that?" Shauna asked almost laughingly.

"Mum's new lipstick" Jackie stated as she finished up applying the bold red to her lips.

"Really, it's just so bold, I couldn't ever picture your mother wearing that" Shauna said as Jackie decided that her lips popped enough and put it away back in her bag. "Also you should probably stop taking things from her, she'll catch on sooner or later"

Jackie admitted Shauna was probably right but she just couldn't bring herself to care that much about the consequences. So she just shrugged her shoulders.

"Well that can be a problem for future me to deal with, anyways…" Jackie quickly changed subject "New team captain getting picked today"

It's not like Jackie expected herself to be picked for it but she was excited non the less. Shauna honestly could care less about it, she knew it ultimately didn't matter.

"Yep"

"Yep? Aren't you like, excited for it, I mean it could even be you" Jackie said and Shauna was a bit taken aback by that.

"Me? Why'd you think that?"

"I'm just saying it could be anyone of us, that's all" Jackie said and there was a brief silence. "Maybe we should ask Lottie"

"Lottie? Why" Shauna was even more confused.

"Come on, you think it was a coincidence that she just guessed prom queen and king last year, that girl knows things, Shauna" Jackie said and Shauna wasn't a hundred percent sure if she was being serious or not.

"You really think she's a psychic?" Shauna asked as there's no way her friend actually believed what people said about Lottie and her 'visions'.

"I don't know, maybe, well there's no harm in asking who she atleasts thinks it's going to be" Jackie said, questioning herself.

"Perhaps"

The first walk through the halls of the school year and it was and felt the exact same. Screw all that crap about being the leaders of the school now and being the examples everyone else looks up to. What were they supposed to know about being responsible at sixteen / seventeen years old.

Natalie just didn't get it and she doubted that this year was going to change that.

The bell had rung like five minutes ago but Natalie and a few other students were still making their way to classes and getting things out from their lockers. Natalie just finished getting the jotters she needed for the day out of her locker and stuffed into her black bag. She then shut her locker and made her over to the school stairs to get to her first class which was geography.

Natalie didn't mind the fact that geography was her first class on a Monday. She quite liked it last year, though the teacher was super nice and understanding and she knew that she might not get him again this year, one can hope though. Also one of her friends was also in that class last year which made it fun and she had gotten a good grade which made the class worth it. Natalie just hoped that wouldn't change much this year.

The classroom was bustling with students picking and fighting over where to sit. The teacher was not really bothered about her classroom being a riot at the moment as she was still starting up the class register on the school computer. The classroom was queued up with tables with two chairs at each table.

Jackie and Shauna begrudgingly just sat in the second row from the front against the wall to avoid the people arguing for the back seats. While waiting Jackie sat doodling in her old geography jotters while Shauna read the class rules which were up on the whiteboard. Jackie didn't even glanced at them because there was no point, they were practically the same every year.

'Don't swing on your seats kids or might end up bashing your head in'.

'Don't eat during class kids as we have decided you should condition yourselves when and when not to be hungry'.

'Don't shout out during class kids as the teachers already have a tiring life outside of school and are already tired of your shit'.

'Ask to go use the bathroom as we don't want you to think that you actually have freewill'.

'And ask to speak by raising your hand like your in fucking nursery'.

Don't, don't, don't. Ask, ask, ask. Blah, blah, blah. The point is Jackie knew them and could resight them if asked.

"Alright class, settle down now and find seats" the teacher said as the second bell chimed. Everyone ended up seated within a couple of seconds as the teacher began to call out names.

A few stragglers came in late, which was to be expected on the first day back, the teacher just waved them off and got their names and then continued on with the register.

"Laura Lee?"

"Here, Miss"

'Laura Lee is in this class?' Jackie and Shauna looked at each other as they both thought the same thing. Then began to subtly look behind and around them for her. She was sitting right behind them next to a random guy. They exchanged smiles and quiet heys as both Jackie and Shauna questioned how they didn't notice her already sitting there or walk in.

Jackie's doodles were drawing themselves as the register continued. It got near the end of the register as a newly dyed blonde haired walked in.

The teacher glanced up and asked her name and then told her to grab a seat. She planted herself near the front but against the windows. As all this was happening Shauna notched her friend beside her and pointed at the blonde.

Jackie looked at where Shauna was totally subtly pointing at. Jackie was confused at first on why her best friend was getting her to look at some blonde bitch but suddenly Jackie had the same look which some of the guys had on their faces when Natalie first walked in.

'Whooo'

'What?'

Jackie was surprised to say the least but to have that be her first reaction, she should just have Laura Lee throw a bible at her now. She then just faced down and started to scribble on the open page. Like this was certainly unexpected, like last year (especially the end of last year) Jackie expected Nat to go like full emo, whatever that meant, She just knew it didn't mean this.

Jealousy was what Jackie felt. Yep, it was just Jealousy, even though she would never admit that.

Jackie came into school today knowing she was going to be bold and draw eyes but the last thing she expected was that Natalie fucking Scatorccio would one up her. But Jackie was going to be the bigger person and not let that bother her as it was the first day back and she'll turn heads soon enough.

The rest of the school day just suddenly happened and now the Yellowjackets found themselves getting changed for their first practice of the year. There were a couple of new faces and a couple of missing ones but that was to be expected. They were all chatting amongst themselves when Van got up on top of a bench and declared her presence to all.

"Fellow Yellowjackets"

Van got a few raised eyebrows and rolled eyes aimed her way as the rest of them started to quiet down.

"Glad to have everyone's attention, now" Van said in a very talk show host way as she suddenly pulled out a hair brush and as an imaginary light shone upon the first person to her right which was, drum roll….Taissa Turner.

Now Van aimed the hairbrush at herself as if it was a mic and she was a professional interviewer.

"Taissa, Who do you think will have the honour of calling themselves Team captain this year?" The mic was now aimed at Taissa who stared blankly at her girlfriend's shenanigans.

"Ain't it obvious, I mean we all know it's going to be....Misty Quigley, of course" That earned a few giggles and snickers from the rest of the girls but Van took it seriously.

"Okay interesting choice, moving on to…"

This went on for a few good minutes until Coach Martinez called the girls to get to the soccer field.

Jackie's name had gotten brought up twice but that was just by one of the new girls and Mari, who were both unsure on who to say. Jackie didn't take it personally when the other girls didn't say her. It wasn't like Van even got the chance to go round everyone, so it wasn't like nobody would've said her name. The only people Van unintentionally missed out were herself, Jackie, Shauna and Lottie. The urge within Jackie to know who Lottie thought it was going to be was still sizzling within her, even though Jackie didn't fully believe all that talk about Lottie and her visions.

Coach Martinez called on the girls right before practice was officially over and they all came and huddled over.

Jackie quickly jogged up to Lottie across the field and greeted her.

"Hey" Jackie said between quiet pants.

"Hi" Lottie replied, also somewhat out of breath.

"So, who do you think Coach Martinez will pick for Team captain this year?"

Jackie knew she was only going to say someone that made sense. Like Taissa who was always there when someone needed her, on the field. Or even Shauna who was a great player and everyone liked her enough to listen to her. Even Lottie saying that it would be herself would make sense.

"You" Lottie said completely seriously and Jackie was taken aback by that.

"Huh? I mean I'm flattered Lottie but I…" Jackie was going to continue but then looked up at Lottie and realised she had a smirk on her face, Jackie slapped her armed for that. "Come on, give me a real answer" Jackie asked again quietly as they approached the group.

"Seriously, I don't know, he could pick anyone of us and it would make sense"

That's exactly what Jackie thought.

"Yeah" Jackie said defeated and then looked around to find Shauna and stood beside her.

"Okay girls settle down now" the girls quieted down "I'm glad to see all of you back and in uniform and before I announce who I've picked for captain this year I would also like to announce that we are going to compete in the states competitions this year"

All the girls were frozen in disbelief for a few seconds but then broke out in smiles and laughter and the talk started back up again. Coach Scott who stood next to Martinez was also in shock as Martinez shook his hand and congratulated him. Coach Scott felt nothing but proud of his team.

Honestly the fact there was going to be a team captain picked all fell from the girls minds for a minute but then dread started to snuggle in as they all realised that whoever was captain would have the pressure of leading the team all through states and then hopefully to nationals. They all kinda didn't want to know now but at the same time it was eating them all from the inside the fact that they had no clue who it was going to be.

"Let's all focus in again" the girls quieted again "Before I say who it is I would like to just say that all of you deserved this and I wish that I could have two captains for this year but only one is required, so the new team captain of Yellowjackets is…"

They all wanted to run from the pressure that they all had put upon themselves within the few seconds he was talking. The only thing that glued their skilled feet to the grass was the fact that they had no clue on who's name was going to come out of Coach Martinez's mouth.

"Jackie"

Notes:

Hope I did them justice in the first chapter.
