Chapter Text

Jet stands under a building's shade. The red canopy cast a red shadow at everything under it. Going through the plan Jet thinks, step one, greet Lee, step two tell Lee about the new Taiyaki stall, step three walk towards said stall, step four eat by the stall, step five profit.

Profit what? Jet doesn't know.

With his arms crossed Jet looks out into the busy street waiting for someone

Lee.

There he is.

“Hey! Hey Lee!” Jet yells raising his arm, “Over here!” Step one complete

Lee turns around and almost gets hit by a  carriage and walks towards him dodging people and carts  alike.

“Hi.” Lee greets.

“Hello.” Jet returns. Leaning towards Lee he says, “There's a new Taiyaki stall by the street outskirts. Thought it would be nice if we tried it.”

“Mh,” Lee replies, “Alright.”

Step two complete.

Taking a small step forward Jet turns to Lee, nods his head to the street, says, “Over there, come on.” and starts walking through the crowd.

Ba sing se is a bustling city. A place with constant movement and business going round day and night. Four o clock is prime time to be out since the sun's up and out but it's not that hot.

Dancing around the crowd, dodging people, carts and carriages, Jet leads the path occasionally stopping to wait for Lee who follows him.

The buildings are tall and tight with the occasional small alleyway sandwiched in between. As they pass through one and Jet can't help but look up and see the sky through the narrow way and tall walls. This almost gets him to hit other passers by.

He walks towards the stairs leading to the button of an open canal. On top of the stairs Jet can see the food market, he looks back at Lee then turns to walk down the stairs.

“Its a short cut,” Jet says turning back to look at Lee, “Too many people on the bridge.”

Lee responds with a curt nod and look on his face that Jet assumes means yeah that makes sence.

They pass under narrow bridges and under each bridge Jet see’s too many people. Too many people who live under bridges. Too many people with out homes. The number seems lardger than last time.

It was the thing that made Jet realize that Ba sing se was not the safe haven he thought it was. Ba sing se was suppose to be home. A place where people where safe and comfortable and didnt need to beg for food.

He really shouldnt, but then again Ba sing se really shouldnt be shit either.

But thats for later. Right now he’s got Lee to think about.

Lee, his quiet friend whos silence rivals longshot’s.

Lee, who is now falling backwards after hitting his head on a stray pipe.

“That was fun now, wasnt it?” Jet says smiling at Lee, waving around a half eaten taiyaki.

It looks nice. Taiyaki. The sun. The sunset. The sunset makes the Taiyaki look nice

“You and I have very different definitions of fun.” Lee replies.

The ground below the brigdes where normally dry but it just so happened that Lee fell back towards a shallow puddle. The whole back of his pants were now damp. Uncomfotably damp.

The sun is setting now, casting a nice orange hue towards everthing it touches. Hanging out by the bridge is definatly one of the best ideas Jet has ever had if I do say so myself.

“We should do this more.”Jet says turining to Lee for an answer.

And Lee, Lee looks at him weird and now Jets pretty sure he has something on his face.

“Uh. Yeah, sure.” Lee says fitgeting “When I have time.”

“When you have time.”

“Yes”

“Alright, when you have time”

“I should go now. My uncle might be looking for me.”

“Oh yeah” Jet exclaims rubbing the back of his neck “I- Um, See ya- See you around then.”

“Yeah, See you around Jet.”
