Chapter Text
May was practically dragged into her supervisor's office. The place was filled up with men in suits with masks covering their faces. Her supervisor was the only face she recognized. "Mary Adams. You've been getting extra hours, I see. Care to explain why you are here? As far as you have informed, your tank is okay and thriving in Delta point."
May kept herself calm. "Yes, I was simply filling up some information with my tank. she passed out when she arrived so I was waiting for her to report back with the data. She has found several mutants in her route, which is unusual but not too much."
The supervisor hummed. "I see I see.... And how is your tank's reaction to the new suit? Anything out of the ordinary?" His eyes shone wickedly.
May played innocent and ignorant. "Everything is going normally, sir. The reports show a normal lecture in the parametres as you can check in the data I've been filling in. Or should I look for an specific parametre?"
Supervisor looked more than disappointed. He waved his hand. "No, just report straight to me if something changes. We need to keep a close eye on your tank. One hundred trips into Ground Zero are no joke. You can go, Adams. Be careful out there."
May nodded and stood up. As she moved to the door, she could feel the eyes of everyone drilling a hole on her back. It took all in herself to not run after she closed the door and walked back to her cubicle. This was fucked up in many ways. Who were those men? Why were they there? Why the supervisor wanted the reports? This all had to be with Purify team, that was for sure.
As soon as she returned, she managed to restablish the connection with Delta point. "Carrie, are you there?"
Carrie hadn't move from the place and was reviewing the information May had sent. "Yes, what was all that-"
"Carrie, there is not much time. Just know that the Purify team is on this and they want whatever data you are collecting for them. They have their eyes on us."
Carrie frowned. "That means... that you are in danger as well. And that I have to go for the objective... or they might suspect anything."
"Carrie... You don't have to do this... We can figure this out-"
"How?? I can't just go back. They have put something inside me! And now, they are looking over you! I'm already fucked up, at least I'm going to get them what they want so they won't hurt you!" Carrie sighed in desperation. "I know you are the brains and I'm the brawl, but I don't see any other way we can get out of this one... that you can get out of this one..."
May was really silent. She also couldn't know. But there had to be something, someone that might help them. "You are not alone in this, Carrie. I'm going to log out. Wait until I return and you can continue to the next point: Sigma. I'm going to find someone that can help us. You are not the first one in this bullshit. Know that."
"I know. I'm reading this crap... I'm not fucking going to be part of their stadistics. So I'm going to rest and help you out... and so maybe you can help me out." Carrie chuckled bitterly. She was having a rollercoaster of emotions. This was supposed to be her last mission to finally have a fucking life as she wanted it to be, and now... this was the last mission that miht as well be the last thing she did in her entire life.
May took deep breath. "That's the attitude. I promise I'll be back. In the meantime, rest. I'm sure that you need it."
Carrie sighed. "Alright boss... I will. And May... before you go... I wanted you to know that I'm so glad to hear your voice again... so damn glad...." Her voice broke a bit.
"Mary." May's voice came with a chuckle. "My name is Mary, but May was a nice guess. I like that nickname."
Carrie looked at the intercommunicator, completely baffled. "You told me... you told me your name!"
"I mean... we are already pretty fucked up. I might as well no keep secrets from you." She now chuckled louder.
Carrie chuckled and sighed. Her smiled beamed through the comms. "Mary May... We will talk in the morning then..."
"We will. Don't you dare to move before I come back, you heard me?" May said firmly.
Carrie even saluted. "Aye aye, boss!" She chuckled. "Good night May. Be careful out there."
"I'll be. M.A. out." And with that, May cut the connection and turned off the computer. This was a huge thing to do... but that night will be the last night she spent in the headquarters. Taking the hard disk of her computer with her, May went straight to look for the only people that could help her in this shithole: The previous M.A. whose tanks didn't come back.
