Chapter Text
It sucked everyday, despite being from a well known family Cassim found himself bullied by people. It was always the same thing, 'give us your money, rich kid!' 'we need it more than you!'. Over and over and overandoverandoverandFUCKINGOVERAGAIN- . But there was a bright side to all this, ?? was there to help him all the way, defending them from bullies, always managing to make Cassim smile on even the darkest of days.
Cassim truly called ?? their friend, they even started to develop feelings for them. He gave all his attention to them to the point he barely focused on anything else, one day he had decided it was time.
Cassim went over to their regular spot when they heard voices. Voices he knew extremely well.
The bullies.
He was about to burst in when he heard the sentence said by the one he loves-- no- loved .
"The dare is over now, right? Acting like that dude's friend is so exhausting. You better pay me good, {Name}."
A… Fucking dare. ??? defended them because of a DARE ?!
Cassim bursts into the classroom, tears streaming down his face. "How dare you, Maradu ?! You defended me because they dared you to?! I- I THOUGHT YOU WERE MY FRIEND!" He yelled to the bear beastman who looked shocked and.. guilty? It didn't matter, since Cassim stormed out of there.
Maradu quickly rushed after him, trying to explain to the jeweller's heir. "Please- Cass-! Wait!"
Cassim didn't hear it, couldn't hear it. Everything was hazy and his ears rang like crazy. His brain remembered the train station nearby, his mind thought of something crazy.
'Jump in front of it.' His mind repeated it like a mantra, his body agreeing. Cassim ran in the direction of the station, Maradu following close behind.
They neared the place when Maradu realised where Cassim was headed. "Cassim no! Please don't! We can talk this out!”
Cassim turned around, eyes dull which scared Maradu, it had never seen those blue eyes that were always filled with happiness so dull. Even his voice was dull.
"No,
Maradu.
" He spat the name with
venom
, making the said person flinch. "We can't talk this out. You don't know how much it hurt me okay. Hearing my only friend say that being
my
friend is exhausting fucking hurts, Maradu!"
The train noise could be heard getting closer and closer, Cassim got closer to the train tracks. "Cassim, I didn't mean it like that! I-'' It was cut off. "Then what did you mean? It was obvious that you meant it like that." Maradu was at a loss for words, it was in the wrong. It knows that. Maradu looked down, ashamed.
The train approached at rapid speeds and Cassim's head turned to look at it. "I suppose this is where we part, my dear friend ." The bear's head shot up, eyes widened. "Wait Cassim-!" But it was too late. Cassim had already gotten on the track and the train was too close already. Maradu watched as its dear friend got run over.
Its eyes were glossy and only then did the group of bullies arrive to see the scene. There was screaming, someone called the emergency services? Maradu didn't know, its ear hurt. Only then did it set in that Cassim could be dead now and...
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
Maradu had let out a scream, dropping to its knees. It held its head in its arms, screaming and sobbing for Cassim. Apologies and random babbling were the only things coming out of the bear beastman's mouth, the leader of the bullies tried to comfort it but it growled at him. Its eyes were wide and crazed, the claws were extended, ready to attack at any moment.
The leader backed off and the rest of the day no- week was a blur. Maradu had barely slept, the memory of Cassim flashed every time it closed its eyes. It had heard that Cassim barely survived the "accident" and was relieved only for a split second before hearing that he was in a coma.
Maradu visited the hospital every damned day. Always with fresh flowers, hyacinths. Cassim's favorite.
Everyone tried to comfort the poor beastman but nothing worked. Fast forward 6-8 months after the incident, Cassim woke up from his coma. Maradu was visiting that day and was happy to see the male awake.
It placed a hand on him only to have it slapped away, Maradu looked confused.
"Cass-"
"Leave me alone."
"But-"
"I said leave!"
That was in the past, Maradu regrets that day so much. How it acted towards Cassim, oh how it wants to reunite with the Scarabian boy but it was obvious he did not want the same. It deserves it. What it did was shitty. Every once in a while, Maradu would vent to Rook about how it regrets that cursed day. About how it used to act. The hunter listens attentively, comforting the bear beastman.
"I wish Cass and I could be friends again.." Maradu mumbled as it watched the shooting stars fly past.
