Chapter Text
"Thoma, I'm going to lose it," Miko muttered, face buried in one of his pillows. The kitune heard him sigh, the shuffle of feet across the floor alerting her that he was coming over.
"And why's that?" He asked, the bed dipping under him as he sat down. She groaned, kicking her feet out of rage a few times. Her nails dug into the plush fabric of the pillow, nearly tearing through it. Maybe it was just because it was her first relationship? Maybe it was because she just wasn't ready to date and got ahead of herself? It's not like she doesn't like Layla, she adores her, but recently the feelings have been slowly disappearing. And Miko hated that.
"I just. . . I don't. . . like Layla anymore," She whined quietly, sitting up. Thoma rested a hand on her shoulder, giving it a comforting squeeze, "This sounds so immature but. . . I just don't feel the chemistry anymore. She's such a wonderful person but my own stupid feelings are getting in the way. I don't know where it went wrong! It just. . . I don't know," She retuned her face to the pillow, letting out a nearly tearful whine.
Thoma was silent, his hand kneading circles into Miko's shoulder. The quietness from the blonde was worrying, making the kitsune lift her head to look at him. He simply returned the gaze with a knowing look. Miko felt her face fall, almost immediately knowing what he was going to say. She sat up, making the bed frame shake a little, "No! Absolutely not, I hate her guts. You know this!"
Thoma simply cocks an eyebrow at the woman, looking very unconvinced, "Miko, have you seen the way she looks at you. I heard from. . . a friend that she never shuts up about you. And I've noticed you acting a lot less hostile towards her. . . I recall you being grateful for her-" His words were cut short as the kitsune covers his mouth with her hand, furious. She can feel how red her face must be, shaking her head.
"Stop spouting lies at me, Thoma!" She said in a shrill voice. Everything about her demeanour indicated he was 100% correct. No matter how hard she tried, every time Miko came home to clean dishes in the drying wrack or her laundry folded neatly on her bed because Ei had done it for her, the stone wall around her heart was slowly being dismantled. It wasn't even her current girlfriend that was doing that, it was the girl she hated the most.
Miko's eyes go wide. Thoma shares the expression, picking up she must've gotten an idea. Hastily, he peels her hand off his mouth. As the two stare at each other, the sound of someone entering the dorm is the only sound in the room. Thoma's eyebrows knit together on his forehead as Miko's face contorts into a devilish smirk.
"What are you scheming now?" He asked slowly, the weariness in his voice palpable. Miko simply smiles at him, standing. "Miko-"
"I've had an epiphany!" The kitsune quickly interrupts her best friend, smile still plastered on her face. The blonde raises both his eyebrows, eyes focusing on the long nailed finger Miko is now holding up at him, "I can get her back for all the shit she caused me in high school. She knows I have a girlfriend, so why not use that to my advantage and make her jealous? Eh?" Every word that slipped out of her lips made the blonde look more and more concerned. The bed made a squeaking noise as he stood as well.
"That is a terrible idea. You'll end up hurting two people instead of one," He took her hand to lower it, shaking his head. The kitsune simply let out a scoff, turning to keep eye contact with him as he moved towards the door.
"Hey! It can't hurt her if she never finds out! I'll just. . . say I've lost feelings or something in a couple months, when Ei has been fully submersed in the jealousy!" Miko flung her hands around widely, her wicked smile turning into more a desperate one. Thoma simply sighed, hand resting on the door knob to his room. He turned to face her head on.
"Listen Miko, I can't control what you do with your love life. All I can do is give you advice. What you decide to do with said advice is up to you. I'll. . . try to support you the best I can with whatever decision you end up making, but if it goes south that's on you. I'll be here to comfort you after everything's gone to shit though," His last words were spoken with a smile, reaching out to rub her shoulder. The kistune relaxed, shoulders slumping.
"Right. . . thank you Thoma. You cut me way too much slack y'know," She rested her head on his shoulder for a moment before the two walked out of his room. Miko knew using Layla as a pawn was bad. . . but the damage Ei had caused was far worse (in her mind.)
It was only fair she got her revenge, no? Even if it hurt others in the process.
