This was the future she had envisioned.

Yae took another deep sigh as she looked over the case for the millionth time. No matter how much she searched, how much she traced her steps and talked to the witnesses, she couldn't find any new leads. the case wasn't the only thing on her mind. the night before Ei left, Yae confessed her feelings and they had become very intimate, but after nine years of not hearing a single word from Ei, Yae gave up on her ever returning. Now, Ei is finally back from being undercover, and she's standing right in front of Yae. but Yae can't help but wonder, does Ei even remember that night?

“Don’t be ridiculous. We both know that’s not why you came.” Ei stares her down, her poise still firm. “Why have you come? What could you possibly want to hear from me that you can hear from no one else?”
“Maybe you’re right,” Miko bites back bitterly, venom spilling onto her tongue. “Maybe I didn’t come here to defend you, maybe I just want to know what you did to my fucking friend—”
The princess Raiden Makoto has been murdered, and her sister Raiden Ei, the head of the justice system, is accused of the crime. The only attorney who will defend her is Yae Miko, a tabloid lawyer with a dubious reputation within Inazuma’s legal community, who also happens to be Ei’s ex-wife.
