Time For Me to Come Home For Christmas – Part 2
5 Years Later
Tim was on patrol with Angela when they got a call about a shooter in a doctor's office.
Angela: 7-Adam-100 show us responding.
Angela put on the lights and sirens as Tim drove quickly.
Angela: So, you still haven’t told me if you will be joining us this year for Christmas.
Tim: I don’t think so.
Angela: Come on Tim!
Tim: What?
Angela: How long has it been since you last celebrated Christmas
Tim: 5 Years.
Angela: Don't you think it’s time you started celebrating again.
Tim: I'm not ready.
Angela: I get it, you lost a lot that Christmas.
Tim: You get it Angela? Do you? Do you really?
Angela: I’m sorry Tim, I didn’t want to upset you.
Tim: I know and I’m sorry I got so mad at you. It’s just.
Angela: That Christmas time is hard for you, yeah, you’ve mentioned.
Tim: I just really miss her Angela.
Angela: Yeah, you’ve mentioned that too.
Tim: I lost so much that night Angela. Jackson, Genny and Lucy, I just can’t get myself to celebrate Christmas just yet.
Angela: Okay, well you are always invited to spend the day with us. All you have to do is just say the word.
Tim: Thank you.
They pulled up in front of the doctor's office and Tim, who is now a field Sargent stayed downstairs giving orders and bossing everyone around on the outside, while Angela went inside to make sure everyone was okay. It ended up being a pretty easy call and Tim was relieved that no one ended up getting hurt. He was just finishing up telling the officers to take the shooter back to the station when he saw Angela walking out of the building followed by several of the victims. Tim started walking towards them when he saw her and stopped short.
Tim: Lucy?
Lucy: Where are the paramedics sir? I would like to get my parents checked out to make sure they are okay.
Tim was shocked, though he shouldn’t have been. Here was Lucy, his Lucy, the girl he loved most in the world. He hadn’t seen her in almost 5 years, and he wanted to do nothing more than hug her and kiss her and take her home with him, but she was ignoring him. She was so cold. She looked at him with such venom and hatred that Tim’s heart broke all over again.
Tim: Lucy please, can we talk?
Lucy: There is nothing to say.
Tim: Like hell there isn’t. Lucy please, I know it was different for you, but you are not the only one who lost someone that night.
Lucy: I don't know what you are talking about sir.
Tim: Lucy, I'm begging you. I just want 5 minutes.
Lucy: It's been 5 years Tim, why do you think now after all this time I will give you 5 minutes of my time.
Tim: A man can hope Lucy.
Lucy: Look. I’m still mad, but if it means you will leave me alone then fine, we can go out for dinner later and we can talk then.
Tim: Thank you. Um, when should I pick you up?
Lucy: This is not a date.
Tim: I know
Lucy: So, I'll meet you there.
Tim walked away from Lucy and for the first time in a long time he was hopeful that maybe they would finally be able to be friends again. Tim got back into the car with a smile on his face. And Angela, who had never seen Tim smile before looked at him funny.
Tim: What?
Angela: Your smiling
Tim: So?
Angela: You never smile
Tim: Of course, I do.
Angela: You do not. I don’t think I have ever seen you smile before.
Tim: Fine I’m happy right now, sue me.
Angela: So what was that all about? With the doctor back there.
Tim: That was Lucy
Angela: Wait, What? Lucy as in Lucy, Lucy? Like your lost love Lucy?
Tim: The one and only.
Angela: I thought you said she was a cop.
Tim: I did.
Angela: But that was a therapist's office.
Tim: It was
Angela: She wasn’t the patient Tim.
Tim: I know. She has her degree in psychology.
Angela: But you said she was a cop.
Tim: I said we went to the academy together and you assumed she was a cop and I never bothered to correct you.
Angela: Why not?
Tim: Like I've said before many times.
Angela: You don't like to talk about the last time you celebrated Christmas.
Tim: Yup
Angela: Well, this isn't about Christmas, I want to know what happened between you and Lucy.
Tim: And like every other time you have asked me that, I do not want to talk about it.
Angela: Maybe it will be good for you to talk about it.
Tim: Seriously? Nope, no way. I’m good.
They got back to the station and Tim had a relatively easy day. He quickly got ready and was not surprised to see that Lucy had gotten there before him. He followed the waiter to the table where she was sitting, and he sat down opposite her.
Tim: Thank you for coming. I wasn’t sure you would actually show up.
Lucy: I gave you my word and I don’t go back on it just because I need air.
Tim: Wow! Wasting no time, I see.
Lucy: I'm sorry Tim, it’s been so long I really shouldn’t have said that.
Tim: You shouldn't have, but I deserved that.
They sat in silence for a couple of minutes before Tim decided to start talking to her again.
Tim: So how have you been?
Lucy: I'm good.
Tim: Really?
Lucy: Uh, huh.
Tim: Lucy we might not have seen each other in 5 years, but I still know when you are lying to me.
Lucy: I'm not lying.
Tim: Fine, but you are not happy.
Lucy: It's been a difficult 5 years Tim.
Tim: Believe me, I know. I still can’t believe that you ended up failing the academy.
Lucy: I didn’t fail Tim.
Tim: What?
Lucy: I decided not to join the LAPD.
Tim: But you told me
Lucy: I’m sorry.
Tim: Why did you lie to me? You’ve never lied to me before.
Lucy: After Jackson died and things between us became confusing, I just needed time to myself, away from you.
Tim: So you take a vacation, tell me you need space. But to lie to me, to tell me that you are going back to college because you failed the academy and will never become a cop
Lucy: You would have never let me join my parents' practice otherwise.
Tim: You say that like it’s a bad thing. Lucy, you hated college, you had no interest in being a therapist. I would have only pushed because I would have only wanted what was best for you.
Lucy: And you think that the best thing for me was to become a cop just like you.
Tim: That's not what I’m saying, Lucy. I would have supported whatever it was you were passionate about and you know that.
Lucy: I know.
Tim: So why did you push me away? Why have you completely ignored me for so long?
Lucy: Tim, where were you that night when I needed to go home?
Tim: Lucy
Lucy: If you want my answer, I need yours first.
Tim: I heard you telling Jackson that you had feelings for him that night.
Lucy: That's why you left? You thought I was in love with Jackson?
Tim: I heard you talking to him Lucy.
Lucy: I was talking about you Tim. I was in love with you.
Tim: What did you say?
Lucy: That I love you
Tim: I love you too Lucy.
Tim leaned in and kissed Lucy with all of the love in the world. He knew they still had a lot to discuss but right here with Lucy, right now it was pretty perfect.
Tim: So, what do you say about coming with me to my friend's house for Christmas this year?
Lucy: That it's finally time for me to come home for Christmas.
