Chapter Text
Noah’s eyes widened as he sat in the front seat of Mirage’s cabin. “The what I promised you?”
“Don’t act like you don’t remember! You said you would take me on a date.” Mirage protested, confidently.
“What date bro?” Noah racked his brain for such a promise until the realization finally hit.
“ Oh . You shit head!” Noah punched Mirage’s steering wheel. “It was not supposed to be a date.”
“Sounded like one to me-” Mirage giggled as his human partner sighed in disappointment. “What? Are you saying you don’t want to take me out on a date?” Noah bit his lip in silence for a moment.
“No, that's not what I’m saying.” Noah admitted, crossing his arms as he averted his gaze out the window.
“So why not right now?” Mirage persuaded.
“Uh, well- because Kris will wonder where I am.” The human countered while not sounding convinced himself.
“Oh easy fix, I'll call him up right now.” The porsche replied, enthusiastically.
“No-! You don’t gotta-” Noah tried to protest but Mirage had already activated his walkie talkie.
“Yo Tails, you still up, man?” His voice crackled over Kris’s walkie.
“Roger, Knuckles.” Kris’s voice sounded tired.
“What the hell are you doing up still?” Noah accused.
“I could ask you the same thing.” Kris argued.
“Because I’m grown, you gotta get to bed soon.”
“Yeah yeah yeah whatever whatever, that’s not why I called.” Mirage interrupted the siblings' argument. “I was wondering if I could take your bro out tonight?” Noah went to grab Mirage in protest then quickly retracted his hands to cover his face and sank lower into the seat.
“Not sure why you’re asking me, but sure.” The young human shrugged as he lay in his bed.
“Tight. Thanks kid, Knuckles out.” The click of the radio ended the conversation. Noah sat frozen in Mirage’s seat, his full body tensed from embarrassment. “Well he said yes.” The bot smirked.
“Yup, I heard that.” Noah’s reply was muffled by his hands that were still gripping his face.
“Soooo is that a yes?” Mirage’s engine whirred in anticipation. Noah peeled his hands away from his flushed cheeks and pushed himself back up in his seat.
“Yeah, yeah alright.” Noah agreed as he rubbed the back of his neck.
“WOOOO!” Mirage hollered and revved his engine. Mirage’s demeanor had fully flipped once again and it was like he was his normal self. Noah grinned at his enthusiasm and buckled his seatbelt right before the cybertronian peeled out of the alley way, his engine roared as they sped down the stretch of road ahead.
“Aye aye, take it easy still man. I just fixed you up and I ain’t doing it for a second time.” Noah teased.
“Yes you would.” Mirage retorted with full confidence. Noah scoffed as he chuckled at Mirage’s comeback. He was right of course, but he wasn't going to admit that. Despite his witty remark, Mirage did slow down just a tad for Noah’s sake.
“Where too, boss?”
“Well I had something planned for earlier, but it’s too late now.” Noah pondered for a moment. “What about you? What did the one and only Mirage do in his freetime before meeting me?”
The porsche thought as he drove down the road, he wasn’t allowed to do much because of the strict ‘robots in disguise' policy. “Well, there is one thing.” He answered. “But you can’t tell Optimus or he’ll kick my ass.”
“You say that about everything you tell me.” Noah laughed.
“You act like that’s my fault bro! Something crawled up his tailpipe and died man, on god.” Mirage shouted back, sending Noah into a laughing fit. Mirage felt relieved he was in car form so Noah couldn’t see the lovesick smile his laughter would have put on his face. Mirage took a sharp turn down an old road and pulled into an abandoned parking garage that was under construction.
“Uh Mirage, this thing isn’t gonna come down on us, is it?” Noah questioned, unable to hide his concern as he peered out of the window to the top of the building.
“Relaaax my man. I used to come up here all the time. I think this was being renovated or somethin’ but they lost the funding halfway through so they just gave up.” The bot explained.
“How do you know that?” Noah questioned.
“Dude, my name is literally Mirage. Spying is not that hard.” Mirage retorted as they entered the unlit parking garage.
“Crazy considering how much of a hard time you have at being quiet.” Noah poked fun at his giant friend as they circled upwards towards the top of he building.
“Hey I can be quiet if I really need to be.” Mirage smirked.
“What is that supposed to-” Noah started but was interrupted by Mirage suddenly coming to an abrupt stop, causing Noah to lurch forward.
“Aw come on!” Mirage whined as they sat in front of a road block, stopping them from progressing up the garage any further. “They closed off the upper half.”
“Damn dude, I’m sorry.” Noah sighed, slightly relieved to get off this rinky dink building.
“Nah, we ain’t givin’ up yet.” Mirage declared as he shifted back into bot mode landing Noah in his hands, holding him from underarms once again.
“Are you ever gonna get tired of doing that?” Noah stated with a blank expression.
“Heheh, nope.” The cybertronian giggled. “Hold on tight.” Mirage set Noah on his shoulders, and before Noah could protest he poked his body out of the side of the parking garage causing Noah to tighten his grip. He scanned up and down for a moment before nodding. “Yeah I got this.”
“Mirage, what are you-” Noah gripped Mirage’s helm as the bot launched himself up the building and began scaling the side of it. “DOINGGG-!” Noah’s entire body tensed as he practically glued himself to the giant robot. “What the fuck!” He shouted.
“Chill my boy!” Mirage said in his usual carefree tone. “I’ve got you man, you can trust me.” He finished with just a tad more sincerity as he continued climbing. The human untensed just slightly at his friends’ comforting words and felt the butterflies return to his stomach. Mirage could feel Noah’s heartbeat pounding against the back of his helm, he would be lying if he said he said he didn't enjoy the feeling of being so close to him.
A small grin spread across his faceplate as he threw his body over the rail at the roof of the building, sticking the landing at the top. He felt his friend’s arms still wrapped around the top of his helm and his legs wrapped around his neck. “Dude, you can let go now.”
“Right, right, right-” Noah blurted and sheepishly relaxed his body and let go of Mirage to which he was immediately scooped up and set on the floor next to him.
“Piece a cake!” Mirage grinned, clearly proud of himself. “Now follow me.” The bot eagerly motioned to his human partner as he began tiptoeing towards the center of the roof. Noah tried to keep pace with him as the cold air nipped at his face as it blew by until they finally reached the middle.
“Well now what?” Noah snipped, still confused as to why they were even up there.
Mirage sensed Noah’s apprehension and chuckled nervously. “Here here, come sit.” He motioned to his side as Mirage plopped down on the ground. Noah wandered over to his side and lowered himself to a criss cross sitting position. “Now kick back.” Mirage let himself fall back and crossed his arms behind his helm, his gaze instantly began scanning the night sky as he fully sprawled out.
Noah reluctantly laid down on the cold cement as he felt a shiver roll down his spine. Noah wanted so badly to enjoy this moment with Mirage but he was confused and cold and could feel his irritability rising. A feeling of guilt burrowed into his brain causing a grimace to spread across Noah’s face, he felt like he was letting his friend down. He should be grateful Mirage even was willing to take him out here after how he treated him today.
Mirage shot a glance at Noah with an excited grin only to notice Noah didn't look too happy. He frowned for a moment before turning onto his side, almost rolling onto Noah himself. He took a closer look at Noah who was now looking up at him, the soft glow of his optics washed a pale blue light over Noah’s face.
“You aight?” He questioned just as he realized how close to Noah he was. The bot’s face warmed and his eyes widened as he cleared his throat in anxious anticipation. Noah suddenly felt the heat radiating off of Mirage and felt himself drawn closer almost instinctively.
“Yeah, just cold.” His reply was short as he didn’t want to make Mirage feel bad. Before thinking, in true Mirage fashion, the bot wrapped his arms around the human and pulled him towards his chest then rolled onto his back; taking Noah with him. Noah opened his mouth to protest but didn't, instead he welcomed the newfound heat source and immediately felt at ease.
“Better?” Mirage smiled as he lifted his head to peer at the human cuddled into his torso. Noah just nodded as his body melted into the cybertronians upper body. “Oh one more thing!” Mirage summoned a coat out of his cabin as he lay on the ground and handed it to his cold friend. “You uh, left this in the back seat..” Mirage handed it to him only to quickly become embarrassed at the implications of keeping Noah’s jacket. Noah lifted himself up from the waist to grab the coat and threw it over his head.
“Mirage, I lost this like a week ago.” He pointed out to the already sheepish Mirage.
“Yeah I know-” Mirage threw his helm back to the ground and averted his gaze back to the stars above. “I just- uh… kept it so you didn’t lose it again.” Mirage lied. “Yeah, we can go with that.” Noah smirked at that comment and laid back down as he felt more heat exuding from the vents on Mirage’s torso.
“Is this really all you did with your free time?” Noah inquired with his cheek pressed against the large, metal body he rested on.
Mirage scoffed dramatically. “No! Plus there's more to it than just stargazing. I just need to find it…” Mirage tailed off as he focused more intently on the sky.
“Find what-”
“There!” Mirage jolted as he threw his servo into the air, pointing at the sky above. A jostled Noah flipped around onto his back to see what he was looking at.
“I just see stars.” Noah observed as he squinted at the dark abyss looking for something he might have missed.
“Okay, okay, okay!” Mirage was clearly much more ecstatic now as he grabbed Noah with one hand and pulled him closer to his face until their heads were almost parallel with each other. Mirage was oblivious as to how red in the face that made Noah, and Noah was okay with that. “Okay so you see the stars that are kinda shaped like a spoon, right?”
Noah felt the urge to correct him and tell him it was called the big dipper, but he didnt and simply nodded as the butterflies in his stomach threatened to flutter right out of his mouth.
“Okay so like all you gotta do is start at the top one then count forty stars over, then seventeen down.” The bot explained with a huge grin on his face. Noah tried his best to count the stars but it proved to be exceedingly difficult to keep track, but eventually he was satisfied with his counting job and it landed him on a dim star right below to bright ones.
“Is it the one right underneath the two big ones?” Noah asked, still squinting.
“Yes! Yes, that's the one.” Mirage said as he relaxed back onto the ground.
“What about it?” Noah asked before he thought about it for a few more seconds. “Wait, Is that… Cybertron?”
“What? Pfft, hellll no. Cybertron is waaaay too far away to be seen by the human eye.” Mirage waved a hand in dismissal causing Noah to shoot his giant friend a puzzled look. “That is the direction of Cybertron though.” His tone softened, as did Noah’s expression in response.
“Oh.” The human turned his head from the sky to Mirage whos gaze was still glued upwards
“Yeah. Whenever I was missing home I would come up here and look at the stars; look towards home.” The cybertronian explained. Noah glanced up at the star then turned his head back towards his friend. Everytime his eyes were on Mirage’s face he felt his stomach flip, the human adjusted himself as he lay parallel to Mirage’s jaw.
“That's pretty poetic.” Noah murmured.
“You think so?” Mirage questioned with his usual sarcastic, Mirage tone.
“Yeah.” The human chuckled. Mirage turned his head to face Noah who was already staring at him. Startled, Noah quickly moved his eyes elsewhere.
“Were you looking at me?”
“Uhhmm.” Noah's abdomen was tying itself in knots. Mirage chuckled at Noah’s flustered attitude.
“Whatever, what I’ve been wanting to say though man is that… ever since meeting you I’ve felt more at home on Earth than I ever have.” The porsche confessed, causing Noah to glance up at him after attempting to hide his face. “So I guess I’m trying to thank you?” Mirage seemed to be asking himself.
Noah gave a crooked smile and nodded, “Yeah man. You make me feel at home too, y’know?” His awkward tone shining through.
“I mean considering that’s what I just said.” Mirage pointed out with a smirk.
“Right-” Noah bit his lip, visibly embarrassed by his repetitive statement.
“You’re funny, Noah.” Mirage grinned and craned his neck to place a small kiss on the side of Noah’s face. As opposed to his torso the bot's lips were cool and took up the entirety of Noah’s cheek. The curly haired man gulped as he processed that his ‘friend’ had just kissed him, and it was somehow different from when he did it to him an hour ago. Noah felt a lump build in his throat as he made an unsuccessful attempt at speaking. “Shit was that wrong?” Mirage's head jerked back.
Noah cocked his head as he cleared his throat. “What?” He choked.
“We don’t really do that stuff on cybertron so I’ve never actually done it before.” The bot confessed as Noah stared back with a dumbfounded expression.
“Wait… Are you telling me that I’m your first kiss?” Noah questioned after finally finding his voice.
“Yes?” Mirage shrugged aggressively. “Was it bad??”
“What- No.” Noah laughed through the grin forming on his face. “It was fine just-”
“Just fine??” The cybertronian sounded jokingly offended as he sat up slightly to use his arm to prop himself up.
“No, no!” Noah defended himself as he slid down to Mirage’s lap as the bot sat up. “I- It was… Good.” The human shook his head slightly as if to clear his thoughts as his face warmed.
“Aight, good good.” The bot nodded.
“Does that also mean I’m your first boyfriend?” Noah asked. Shocked, Mirage's helm jerked downwards towards Noah as he tensed at the question.
“Noooot necessarily.” He responded. “Also, boyfriend?” The cybertronian quirked a metal brow.
“Well I mean, I guess I assumed-” Noah backtracked. Mirage quickly silenced him by abruptly laying flat on the ground again as he pulled the human back towards his face and rested Noah belly down on his torso.
“Do you want me to be your boyfriend?” Mirage inquired while peering at Noah who appeared startled.
“Whoa. I mean, uh, if you- I… Uhm…” The human’s head was spinning like a top.
“I think that would be pret-ty sick.” Mirage emphasized the word pretty, he gazed at his human partner while he felt his heart pound against his metal chest.
“You would??” Noah sounded shocked.
“Duh.” The porsche replied. Noah's entire body felt like water as he tried to wrap his brain around what was just said to him.
“Yeah, I think that would be pretty dope too.” Noah finally breathed as he chuckled nervously causing Mirage to chuckle with him. He was officially dating an alien robot twice his size. What kinda fetish is that… He wondered, jokingly.
“Ahhh Optimus is gonna kill me.” The bot laughed.
“Not before he kills me .” Noah bit his lip through a smile as he relaxed back into his previous spot. “Not a word to Kris.” His tone hardened.
“I don’t think I’ll have to.” Mirage smirked as he thought back to his previous conversation with the kid.
“What?!” Noah pushed himself back up from his spot causing Mirage to let out a hardy laugh that shook Noah with each chuckle. “What did you say to him??”
“More like what he said to me bro!” Mirage choked out through more laughs. “He knew before I did.” Noah stared at Mirage with a slack jaw for a moment before grabbing Mirage's chin and playfully pushing him away.
“You're unbelievable, man.” Noah sighed and laid back down on top of his partner, which now had a different implication than it did before.
“Yeaahhh you love me.” Mirage snickered as he pushed Noah's arm off his chin and nudged his head in retaliation.
“Yeah yeah whatever.” Noah muffled out as his eyes closed gently, suddenly feeling the effects of how late it was. Mirage and Noah laid there for a while longer while Mirage paid close attention to the sound of Noah’s breath until it became rhythmic and slow meaning the human was asleep, or at least close to it.
The bot lightly rested a metal hand on top of his human partner so as to not wake him, then turned his head to the side allowing himself to doze off as well. Noah opened his eyes at the sudden touch and glanced around in a sleepy daze. He noticed the cybertronian’s hand over top of his body and instinctively grabbed one of the bots fingers with his hand before he closed his eyes once again.
Mirage peered down at the feeling of Noah's comparatively small hand gripping his own and a lovesick grin spread across his faceplate. He rested his head again and relished the giddy feeling he felt in his chest. Mirage decided at that moment that this was undoubtedly the happiest he had been since coming to earth.
