Chapter Text
In the dimly lit, exclusive VIP section of the upscale club, an atmosphere thick with anticipation hung in the air. Amidst the haze of cigarette smoke and the low hum of conversation, two figures commanded the spotlight, their presence impossible to ignore. First, a short woman, petite in stature, stood at the snooker table. Her jet-black hair fell effortlessly around her shoulders, contrasting starkly with her porcelain skin adorned with an intricate tapestry of tattoos.
Each tattoo seemed to tell a story, weaving together a narrative of mystery and rebellion. As she expertly lined up her shot, the cigarette perched between her fingers sent tendrils of smoke swirling into the dimness, adding an aura of danger to her presence. Opposite her stood a tall, striking figure, a stark contrast to her companion. With a silver mullet that glinted in the club's ambient lighting, her almond-coloured monolids betrayed no hint of emotion. Like an inscrutable work of art, she seemed untouched by the chaos around her, focused solely on the game at hand. Dressed in club casuals, both women emanated an air of effortless coolness, their reserved demeanour only serving to enhance their allure.
The club's elite patrons, normally boisterous and vivacious, watched in hushed fascination as the two women clashed on the snooker table. Their movements were graceful, yet precise, and the click of the balls colliding was the only sound that cut through the silence of the VIP section. As the game continued, the room seemed to pulse with a unique energy, an atmosphere where danger and enchantment coexisted in perfect harmony. It was a place where boundaries blurred, where secrets were locked behind inscrutable gazes, and where the aura of the unknown was as intoxicating as the cocktails served at the bar.
In the midst of their intense snooker game, Chaeyoung suddenly broke the silence with a question that cut through the air like a razor. "How are the KLM stocks doing?" Her voice was low, but it held a note of urgency that contradicted her calm exterior. Jeongyeon, her eyes still fixed on the table as she aimed for a tricky shot, replied with a nonchalant confidence, "They're doing just fine. Revenue's flowing from Hirai’s side."
A heavy pause followed Chaeyoung's inquiry. She took a long drag from her cigarette, the ember glowing brightly in the dimly lit room, casting eerie shadows on her inked skin. Her silence spoke volumes, a testament to the unspoken tension that had defined their partnership for so long. The club's elite patrons continued to watch, but it was clear that Chaeyoung and Jeongyeon were a world unto themselves. They were an enigmatic duo, exuding an aura of power and intrigue that bordered on the sinister. Whispers circulated in hushed tones among the clubgoers, speculating about the nature of their empire and the dark secrets hidden behind their stoic facades.
Son Chaeyoung was……there was no accurate description ever captured. She was there but wasn’t. She did a lot of things. Some with Jeongyeon, some alone. She was powerful, her extent was too deep to get hold of. She was an introvert, she shared that with her trusted and best business partner. But for a woman barely twenty-four, she’s had an impressive life. But she was simple at heart, she’d say. All she loved was a good smoke and the strong smell of stacked bills.
Their private lives often served as a mystery. Jeongyeon had a girlfriend, but she was a mere footnote in their complex lives, existed on the periphery. Their relationship was a mere distraction, a formality that had no real bearing on the powerful alliance between the two women. Chaeyoung was blank. She left no traces of her life anywhere. They were unconventional, defying the norms of society, and the rules that applied to ordinary people didn't seem to concern them.
As the game continued, an unspoken understanding hung between Chaeyoung and Jeongyeon. They were a force to be reckoned with, and their enthralling but unsettling presence sent shivers down the spines of those who dared to glimpse into their world. Jeongyeon's eyes drifted away from the snooker table, momentarily drawn toward the lively crowd in the VIP section. Among the throng of partygoers, her gaze landed on Kim Dahyun, a fellow businesswoman who was renowned for her charm and social prowess. Dahyun had always been a magnet for attention, but Jeongyeon, for reasons yet undisclosed, had never been one to fall under her spell.
Dahyun, her laughter ringing like tinkling bells, was holding court with a group of admirers, her charisma undeniable. She effortlessly navigated the social intricacies of the elite club scene, her every word a testament to her mastery of the art of conversation. As Jeongyeon continued to watch, her attention shifted to the object of Dahyun's affections, Myoui Mina. The graceful Mina, a woman of undeniable allure, stood at the centre of the group, her movements a fluid dance of elegance. She reciprocated Dahyun's flirtatious banter with an enigmatic smile, her poise and allure matching her own.
Myoui Mina was an up and coming socialite, with a few lucky early investments fuelling her reputation. She was Japanese, nobody really knew why she came here, but they knew that she was best friends with the top actress Minatozaki Sana. Mina was beautiful. Downright. She had jet black flowy hair, moles on face that lined up like a constellation, crescent eyes and a smile that could make you walk into a pole.
"Jeongyeon!" Chaeyoung's voice broke through the moment, sharp and commanding. Jeongyeon's eyes snapped back to the snooker table, but her thoughts lingered on Mina. "Myoui Mina," she murmured under her breath, her tone laced with a mixture of curiosity and concern. Chaeyoung's head shot up, her eyes following Jeongyeon's line of sight. Her gaze, too, landed on Mina, and for a brief moment. As the cigarette smoke curled into the air, Chaeyoung's eyes never wavered from Mina, tracking her every move like a hawk. There was an intensity in Chaeyoung's gaze, a raw appreciation for Mina's allure that she couldn't quite conceal.
Finally, Chaeyoung couldn't hold back her thoughts any longer. Her voice, like a whisper laced with intrigue, broke through the ambient noise as she spoke to Jeongyeon. "She," she began, "is something else." Jeongyeon, still focused on the snooker game but acutely aware of the unspoken tension in the room, nodded subtly in agreement. "She is," she acknowledged, her voice equally hushed. “Tell me,” Jeongyeon asked as she took a drag of her smoke. “What do you think of when you see Mina?”
Chaeyoung looked at the table, the veins on her hand begging to be seen as she held the cue stick. “What do you want me to answer?” Jeongyeon chuckled. Smart. Yet, Chaeyoung answered. “She’s a wave. With a flow I’ve never felt before.” Chaeyoung let out a breath as she leaned down and aimed. “I can’t put my head up to her. Time becomes strange.” As they continued their game, it was evident that Chaeyoung's fascination with Mina didn't hinder her skill. In fact, it seemed to sharpen her focus. With a grace that belied her petite stature, Chaeyoung executed a flawless shot, sinking a ball with precision that left the onlookers in awe.
Their mastery over the snooker table was emblematic of their proficiency in all aspects of life. Both Chaeyoung and Jeongyeon were adept at manoeuvring through the complex webs of business and personal connections, their influence far-reaching and their actions calculated. The conversation lingered on the edges of their game, the unspoken words growing heavy. It was clear that Chaeyoung's fixation on Mina was more than just admiration; it carried an undercurrent of possessiveness. And she didn't hesitate to voice her discomfort.
"I don't like how Dahyun is flirting with Mina," Chaeyoung confessed, her eyes never leaving the enchanting figure of Mina. Her tone held a warning, a declaration of her territorial nature. Jeongyeon's gaze flickered towards Dahyun and Mina, who were still engaged in their playful exchange. Jeongyeon couldn't help but let out a soft, almost amused laugh at Chaeyoung's comment. To her, the concept of human emotions, especially those like jealousy and possessiveness, was a source of amusement. "Ah," she said, her voice carrying a hint of amusement, "humans are such idiots, aren't they?"
She leaned over the snooker table, her tone taking on a playful edge. "If Dahyun's flirting with Mina is bothering you, why don't you put an end to it?" Jeongyeon challenged, her eyes locked onto Chaeyoung's. A sudden tension hung in the air, but Chaeyoung, her face was unreadable as ever. "You know, I think I will." As Chaeyoung gripped the cue stick in her hands, an eerie silence enveloped them. Then, with a swift and violent motion, she cracked the cue stick and flung it away, her expression never changing. Without uttering a single word, Chaeyoung reached for her jacket and began to walk away. Her footsteps seemed to echo ominously in the stillness of the VIP section.
On the other side of the room, Dahyun shamelessly continued her flirtation with Mina, her advances growing bolder with every passing moment. She extended an invitation that left no room for misinterpretation. "Mina, why don't you come to my hotel room? It's just a few steps away, and I promise, it'll be worth it." But before Mina could react to Dahyun's audacious proposition, her attention was inexplicably drawn to Chaeyoung. Time seemed to slow to a crawl as Mina watched Chaeyoung slip into her jacket, her face impassive. In the flickering light of the club, the scene played out in a surreal slow-motion dance, and the gravity of the situation settled upon Mina like a heavy shroud.
Her gaze shifted towards Jeongyeon, who stood amidst a swirling veil of cigarette smoke, her expression twisted into a smirk. It was a chilling, almost sinister look that sent a shiver down Mina's spine. She pushed her way through the stunned onlookers, her eyes locked onto Chaeyoung's retreating figure. The club's elite patrons and curious bystanders watched in breathless anticipation as Mina made her move.
As Chaeyoung neared the back door, her footsteps echoed in the dimly lit corridor, and the urgency of her departure seemed palpable. It was then that Mina caught up to her, her voice tentative yet filled with concern. "Chaeyoung, are you leaving?" Chaeyoung, her boredom evident, simply shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly as she lit another cigarette, the flame casting an eerie glow on her tattooed skin. Smoke spiralled upwards as she took a drag, the silence stretching between them.
Mina, her dark brown eyes searching Chaeyoung's inscrutable gaze, decided to tread carefully. "Chaeyoung, about that business deal we were working on together..." Before Mina could continue, Dahyun appeared at the corridor's entrance, her expression curious, but it quickly morphed into something more complex when she spotted Chaeyoung. Her eyes widened with recognition and surprise, and her footsteps faltered. Mina turned to face Dahyun, her voice carrying a hint of uncertainty as she addressed her friend. "Dahyun, I was just discussing something with Chaeyoung."
Dahyun's expression shifted, her curiosity now tinged with a hint of unease. She glanced back at Chaeyoung, her eyes locked onto the petite woman who had just re-entered their shared world. The atmosphere in the corridor grew increasingly tense, like a storm brewing on the horizon. The tension in the corridor intensified as Dahyun, never one to hide her disdain for Chaeyoung, let her disappointment show. "Mina," she began, her tone carrying a sharp edge, "I didn't expect you to leave so early. We were having a good time."
Mina, acutely aware of the brewing storm, tried to excuse herself. "I just thought I should check on Chaeyoung. She seemed to be in a hurry." But before Mina could escape the corridor, Dahyun's comment took an unpleasant turn. "Well, it's not like she's your girlfriend or anything," Dahyun remarked with a cold smirk. Chaeyoung, who had been standing at a distance, turned back to face Dahyun, her eyes glinting with a dangerous edge. "Dahyun," she said in a low, venomous tone.
Closing the gap between them, Chaeyoung leaned in, her face inches from Dahyun's. "By the way," she continued, her voice dripping with disdain, "How's Sana? Still trying to keep her in check, I assume?" Dahyun's eyes flashed with anger as Chaeyoung dared to bring up her personal life. She clenched her fists, her voice dripping with venom as she replied, "That's none of your business, Chaeyoung." Chaeyoung chuckled, shaking her head trying to hold back her laughter. “Yeah, yeah. You say that every time you come to pick her up from my hotel rooms, don’t you?” Dahyun's face flushed with anger, her fists clenching at her sides as she fought to control her rage.
Mina’s jaw dropped in a way that couldn’t be described. The grip to her diamond studded clutch loosened, she let out a heavy breath, and her eyes were shining. Chaeyoung went on to straighten Dahyun’s collar, dusting off non-existent particles. “How’s the baby?” Dahyun froze. There was fear in her eyes. Dahyun and Sana hadn’t told a soul about the unexpected baby in their lives, and she backed. Chaeyoung simply smiled. “I know. She loves raw dogging, doesn’t she? She was begging me to take her ass on my yacht a few weeks ago, but I lost interest in her. I thought I’ll leave you guys with a goodbye gift.”
The mention of Sana’s pregnancy, was a low blow, and Chaeyoung knew it. Unable to contain her fury any longer, Dahyun lunged forward, her fist aimed squarely at Chaeyoung's face. The world around them seemed to slow, and for a moment, it was as if time had frozen. Dahyun's punch landed squarely on Chaeyoung's face with a resounding thud, but it was as if she had struck a brick wall. Chaeyoung, seemingly inhuman and unmoved, crashed to the floor with a grace that belied the force of the blow.
Dahyun, driven by a mix of fury and disbelief, straddled Chaeyoung's prone form, her eyes blazing with a firestorm of emotions. Mina, her voice trembling with fear and urgency, shouted, "Stop it! Both of you, stop!" But Chaeyoung remained eerily still, her eyes closed as if she hadn't felt a thing. The punch had been nothing for her, a mere nuisance in the grand scheme of things. Slowly, almost theatrically, she opened her eyes, a sinister smile playing on her lips. As Dahyun, her face contorted with anger, lunged again, she was swiftly intercepted by the club's security personnel, strong boxers who had been standing watch nearby. They seized Dahyun, restraining her with unyielding force.
The scene played out in surreal slow motion as Chaeyoung lay on the floor, her gaze locked onto Dahyun, the embodiment of cold, calculating malice. The cacophony of chaos, anger, and fear that had erupted moments ago now seemed to fade into the background. Mina, her heart pounding with anxiety, rushed towards Chaeyoung's prone figure, her voice trembling as she called out, "Chaeyoung, baby? Are you okay?" The room fell into an eerie silence as Chaeyoung slowly sat up, her eyes fixed on Mina with that enigmatic look that had drawn her lover in from the very beginning—a look of absolute mystery, a puzzle that Mina couldn't help but want to solve.
As Mina reached out, her gentle fingers tenderly caressed Chaeyoung's lip wound, a silent gesture of affection and concern. But Chaeyoung's demeanour remained icily calculated. She locked eyes with Mina, an unsettling intensity in her gaze, as their lips met in a kiss. However, the tranquillity of the moment was shattered when Chaeyoung's hands suddenly reached for Mina's hair with a harsh grip. She pulled with ruthless force, making Mina scream in pain. The sound was a discordant symphony, echoing in the dimly lit room.
Tears welled up in Mina's eyes as she thrashed in agony, but Chaeyoung remained cold, observing her lover's suffering without a trace of remorse. She continued to pull Mina's hair mercilessly, from the roots, every tug sending shockwaves of pain through Mina's body. Mina's cries pierced the air, a stark contrast to the silence that had preceded this harrowing moment. She begged Chaeyoung to stop, her pleas choked by pain and desperation. In a rare moment of respite, Chaeyoung leaned in, her voice laced with cold warning as she kissed Mina and hissed, "You should never flirt with Kim Dahyun again."
As the disturbing scene unfolded on the floor, Jeongyeon remained an impassive observer. Without a hint of reaction, she turned and walked out of the VIP section, making her way toward the club's main entrance. A sleek, black limousine was waiting for her, the door held open by a strikingly beautiful woman with bunny-like teeth. The woman greeted Jeongyeon with an enthusiastic hug, despite the stoic expression on Jeongyeon's face. Rolling her eyes, Jeongyeon returned the embrace, pressing a kiss to the top of the woman's head.
"Nayeon, I hope you're not too hungry," Jeongyeon deadpanned, her voice carrying a hint of irritation. Nayeon giggled, her laughter like tinkling bells as she replied, "Oh, you know me, Jeongyeon. I'm always hungry." She nuzzled into Jeongyeon's shoulder. Jeongyeon, though she maintained her usual cold demeanour, hugged Nayeon tighter, their bodies pressed close. It was a rare moment of tenderness for the usually aloof woman.
"I promised we'll have dinner," Jeongyeon murmured softly, her words almost lost in the embrace. Nayeon giggled, her infectious laughter breaking through the tension that surrounded Jeongyeon like a shroud. Despite the chill that often emanated from Jeongyeon, Nayeon seemed unbothered, as if she possessed a unique ability to thaw even the coldest hearts The limousine door closed behind them, leaving the VIP section and the tumultuous scene within in the past.
The clock had struck 3 AM, and the city below was bathed in the soft glow of streetlights and the distant hum of nightlife. Chaeyoung sat alone on the balcony of her and Mina's shared luxury apartment, a half-empty glass of alcohol in her hand. Her thoughts were a turbulent sea, roiling with the events of the evening.
As she took another sip, a small, white kitten, the one Mina had been fostering, approached her. It padded delicately across the balcony floor, its fluffy tail swaying with every step. Chaeyoung, known for her cold and reserved nature, surprised even herself as she reached out and picked up the kitten, which immediately snuggled into the warmth of her palm.
The kitten's inquisitive eyes looked up at Chaeyoung, and it let out a soft meow, as if sensing her distress. Chaeyoung stared down at the tiny creature, an enigmatic gleam in her eyes that hinted at a vulnerability she rarely displayed.
In the dimly lit living room, Mina sat on a plush couch, cradling a cup of chamomile tea in her hands. Her long, loose hair cascaded down her shoulders, framing her delicate features. The pain from Chaeyoung's harsh grip still throbbed faintly in her body, a reminder of the tumultuous evening they had shared. Her gaze was focused on the balcony, where Chaeyoung and the white kitten shared an intimate moment.
Gently, Chaeyoung laid the kitten on her chest, where it continued to gaze at her, its innocent eyes filled with a silent understanding that transcended words. Chaeyoung, in that fleeting moment, felt a connection, a rare glimpse of something softer beneath her icy exterior. Yet, the moment passed as quickly as it had come. Chaeyoung took another swig of her drink, her expression returning to its usual stoicism. The kitten meowed again, as if urging her to share her burden, to let go of whatever weighed her down.
As the night wore on, Chaeyoung sat there on the balcony, her thoughts drifting in the darkness. As the kitten climbed up to Chaeyoung's neck, Chaeyoung let out a soft groan, the sound carrying through the stillness of the night. Mina's heart ached, torn between concern for her girlfriend's well-being and the undeniable possessiveness she felt toward Chaeyoung. Mina had a deep-seated conviction that Chaeyoung belonged to her and her alone. She had come to accept that Chaeyoung's actions, as cold and harsh as they could be, were a part of the enigmatic woman she had fallen for.
It was a love that existed on its terms, and Mina was willing to endure the pain for the moments of tenderness they shared. She knew that they loved each other, a connection that ran deeper than any wounds inflicted during their tumultuous moments. She was willing to ignore Chaeyoung's actions, to bear the brunt of her icy demeanour, because she knew that, at the end of the day, Chaeyoung always came back to her.
As Mina's chamomile tea ran dry, she sighed, her thoughts filled with a sense of belonging and devotion. She had chosen this path, this turbulent love affair with Chaeyoung, and she was determined to make it work. In the quiet of their apartment, as the city slept outside, the night held its secrets close. And Mina found solace in the knowledge that, no matter how cold and unpredictable Chaeyoung could be, she was the one woman who held the key to her heart. And with that conviction, Mina closed her eyes.
