Chapter Text
Bluey let out a weak sigh “I give up Midnight…you win” Midnight raised an eyebrow “Hm?” Bluey looked at her “End my pain, I can’t…can’t go on in life like this” Bluey felt her the cracks nearly finish spreading before she had thought of something, the cracks would halt “W-wait” she let out a sigh and looked at Midnight, who had continued to stare at her with an expressionless face. “Before you kill me, can you do one thing before that?” Midnight had raised an eyebrow and looked at Bluey “And what would you want me to do?” she asked. Bluey groaned and smiled weakly “Please, allow me to live for just a bit longer, I have a good reason for it” some of the cracks would begin to vanish while Midnight had gained an annoyed expression on her face. “And what is that reason? What could you possibly want me to do?” she wondered.
More of the cracks would vanish as Bluey would place her hand over her womb “Believe me, I don’t want to stay here forever, but I do want to stay long enough so that I could have this child…I guess you could say that I’m doing it for Mackenzie” Midnight groaned as she heard his name “Mackenzie…” she would then see memories of the border collie, the two had a friendly rivalry as kids for a long time, how he had helped her realize that trying new things like going to the creek could be fun, how the two even had a few arguments like when they played barky boats, how he was there for Bluey even after finding out what she did to Bingo, and how he was willing to put himself through pain and antagonize himself just so that Chucky would not kill her. “I know it means that I would have to deal with this pain for longer, but he’s lost his parents.” Her eyes teared up as she thought of him “He’s been through a lot too, I can’t take his child away from him. This whole thing is only happening because I caused Bingo to die, I can’t….can’t be the reason why someone else I love dies. I want my child to live!” Midnight growled and clenched her fists “I want them to live, even if I’ll be a mother they will never get to know! You look angry but…you’re a part of me, so this is your child as well and you know it wouldn’t be fair to cause more pain”
Midnight would sigh and think about it for a few seconds before looking at Bluey “You know, you control my every action” she would think for a free more seconds before nodding “I guess you do have a good point” her face changed from one of anger to one of sympathy “If I ended your pain right now things would be far more easier, but you are right. We would be killing that innocent child, and as much as I wish I could ignore it, Mackenzie shouldn’t have to suffer losing you and go through more pain knowing that his child is gone as well” she turned away from Bluey “Then…I promise I won’t let that child- our child come to harm”
The cracks had vanished from Bluey’s body, the pain had lessened but was still definitely there and noticeable. Bluey would walk over to Midnight and smile weakly before giving the fictional version of herself a hug “Midnight…thank you” she said weakly. Bluey would then begin to vanish and be absorbed by Midnight. The park area would reappear and it would become extremely hot and the plants would dry up, the wildlife would change, the grass would turn to sand, and the park would become an expansion of the desert. However an oasis would sit in the middle of the desert Midnight was confused but chose not to question it. Midnight’s body would glow white and her height would change, once everything had finished, she looked just like Bluey had. She would place her hand over her womb “Don’t worry little one, you’re safe”
Bluey opened her eyes and looked around the cold hospital room she was in. She let out a sigh and sat up, she had bandages covering where Honey had slashed her, some of the wounds were deeper than she thought. She would get up and walk over to the mirror, something felt…wrong, her reflection looked normal, albeit darker than usual but she decided to ignore it for now. The television was on a random channel where it was showing Cat Squad, a cartoon Bluey was familiar with, she simply ignored it then she would walk out of the room. Bluey never liked how cold it felt in hospitals even when she understood that the purpose was to slow bacteria growth. “At least you’re not cold” Bluey said to the small pup that was growing inside her. She would look out the nearby window to see that it was pretty early, as the sun had just barely begun to rise “Must’ve been out for a few days…not that it matters at this point” she said as she continued to walk towards the elevator. “Not sure how long it’s been but I am really exhausted, though I guess with the insanity of everything that has happened and with all the deaths I’ve witnessed, I could just be very fatigued from it all. Well at least Honey is gone, so everything should be over for good” Bluey thought. While she was in the elevator, the doors would open and another dog and his daughter would enter as well, Bluey did not think much about it until the girl had spoke “Hey dad, isn’t that the dog that they were talking about in the news?” the young pup asked excitedly. Bluey looked over at her “Hm?” she asked. The father tried to shush his daughter “That’s not your business kiddo” he told her. “But dad! Everyone is saying that she's brave! That even though Honey Huntress had tried to kill her, she still tried being her friend and now Honey Huntress can’t hurt anyone ever again” The father placed her hand over his daughter’s mouth “Sorry about her, she really likes dogs that she sees as heroes” he said sheepishly. Bluey smiled and shook her head “It’s fine, after everything that has happened I can’t say I blame her” Soon, the elevator would stop and the door would open, the father and his child would step out, the girl would wave at Bluey “Bye-bye blue lady!” she said. Bluey simply smiled and waved at her, not wanting to be rude. Once the doors closed again, Bluey leaned against the railing and closed her eyes. Once the elevator reached the first floor, the doors would open, however Bluey would remain inside the elevator for a few more minutes.
After a while, Bluey would make her way to the lobby where she would see very few dogs, some of which were asleep in their chairs, then she saw two familiar dogs who were sitting further back. Deep in her heart she had wanted to just leave and find another way out of the hospital, she wanted things to be over but she knew that it wouldn’t be right for things to go this way. She walked over to Mackenzie, was snoring lightly in his chair and Rusty who had been reading things on his phone. She smiled lightly and placed a kiss on Mackenzie’s lips to wake him up. Mackenzie would slowly open his eyes then smiled at Bluey “I thought Sleeping Beauty was the female” Rusty said, not looking up from his phone. Bluey rolled her eyes then stretched “Anyways, I’m feeling better now” she said. They would chat with a doctor for a few minutes who would then prescribe a painkiller for Bluey. The three would then get into Mackenzie’s car while the two boys would fill Bluey in on everything that had happened since she passed out. During the ride, Rusty noticed that Bluey was unusually quiet “You okay there Bluey?” he asked. She nodded “I’m fine Rusty, I’ve just been thinking about Honey and everything all of us have been through because of her I guess, some of it just seems so unbelievably crazy” Rusty scoffed “Forgive me if this sounds cruel but she had many chances to change her ways and let go of her petty grudge. I would dare say that I’m happy that the cunt’s dead now!” Mackenzie’s eyes widened and he laughed a little “I think…you’ve been spending too much time with Coco’s mum” he told the red kelpie. “Well some of the stuff she says actually makes sense the older you get!” Rusty told them. They would continue to talk about various things with each other until they had arrived at Rusty’s home, allowing him to get out and let their friends know about Bluey and then her and Mackenzie would drive back to his house, where they would happily cuddle together on his couch for a while
While Mackenzie was happy and with the girl he loved more than anyone else, and while she was technically Bluey, Midnight did not care for Mackenzie nearly as much as Bluey did. She did not care for any of Bluey’s friends the same way Bluey did, the only dogs that she cared for the same way that Bluey did would be Bluey’s family, especially Bingo. For Bluey’s sake, she would have to put her minimal feelings aside and do everything the same way that Bluey would, fortunately things wouldn’t be awkward or difficult for her like they would be if she was like one of those dogs in some cheesy repetitive cartoon. She would just have to force herself to be more positive until it was time for the baby to be born. “I don’t understand, this will just cause more pain in the end, Bluey, but I can’t deny what you want in the end since in the end you will…” she would think about things for a bit then continue to stare at the sleeping Mackenzie “But…I guess I do understand some appeal to it” she would close her eyes for a bit, she had a warm feeling in her chest while she was in his embrace. “This feeling is nice after all” she thought as a small smile crept on her face.
Within the following months, life would continue for Bluey and her friends, she would do her best to be happy in front of everyone even when she was not. One day when Bluey was alone, Snickers would approach her alone. “Bluey, has everything been okay with you lately?” Snickers asked. Bluey raised an eyebrow and looked at him “What do you mean Snickers?” Snickers sighed “Ever since the whole thing with Honey, you’ve been acting a bit different. I just wanted to know if something has been bothering you.” Bluey smiled and shook her head “It’s nothing, I just…feel bad for Honey you know? Things didn’t have to end the way they did, we could have been friends again if she would have just moved past whatever she felt towards me” Snickers sighed “You’re right, things could have ended better, much better” he looked at Bluey “But we have been childhood friends long enough for me to know that something is bothering you” Bluey turned away from Snickers without saying another word “When I think about it…is it all the attention you have been receiving from the public? Could it have been Coco and my news report that’[s causing you so much stress?” Bluey’s eyes widened as she looked at Snickers “Oh no, I haven’t been receiving too much attention surprisingly, I’ve just been thinking about the baby is all” Snickers raised an eyebrow “Hasn’t Mackenzie been monitoring you and trying to make sure you are okay?” Bluey quickly nodded “Honestly, it’s a bit annoying that he’s making me be so careful lately” Snickers giggled “It’s only him showing that he cares” Bluey nodded again “I know and I love that about him, really I do, but have you ever known Mackenzie to want someone to be slow and steady about anything?” she asked. Snickers nodded “That’s true, I guess I understand what you are saying” Bluey patted Snickers “I am sorry for making you worry” Snickers’s tail wagged “It’s fine…I just wish that you would come to us sometimes when things would bother you, we are all friends for a reason” Bluey laughed sheepishly and nodded “You’re right” Snickers checked the time on his watch then waved at Bluey “I’m meeting up with my mum so I’ll see you later alright?” he asked. Bluey nodded “See ya, mate” Bluey responded as she watched Snickers walk away. Once Snickers was out of Bluey’s sight, he would meet up with Winton “How is she?” Winton asked. Snickers sighed sadly “She made up an excuse…she won’t tell me what’s actually bothering her, and it makes me concerned” Winton grabbed his hand “Do you think it’s about Mackenzie?” Snickers shook his head “He loves her way too much to hurt her, and she explained that he has been pretty caring for her for their pup” he said. “What if he’s being a bit too caring about the things she does?” Winton asked. “Chloe once said that when Bluey avoids telling the truth, her tail sways, and that she has no idea that she even does it” Snickers told him “But if she won’t tell us, we can’t really help her”
An hour later, Bluey would sit by herself in a park, memories of her and Bingo spending their time there as children would vividly replay in her head “Heh, we really had some amazing times here with mum and dad” she said to herself. There she would see a familiar face, she saw a certain dalmatian who was walking with one of her children. “All I’m saying is, I don’t think that they should have eaten my cookies, I had them hidden in my box from everyone!” the child said. “Well, maybe dad can bake some more for you and this time you can share them with fluffy and shiny when we get home?” Aki asked her daughter. “Okay mum” her kid said while wagging her tail. “Oh Mrs. Wolfdog, having some problems with a cookie thief?” Bluey asked from the bench. The duo then turned their attention to Bluey “Oh uh the cookie thieves would happen to be her siblings, but thanks anyway…um?” Bluey raised an eyebrow
“My name is Bluey? I visited your house years ago for therapy?” she tilted his head “You did? I’m sorry I genuinely don’t remember you” she apologized. Bluey shrugged “Yeah, your husband had gave me a burger and you even spoke with me while your husband spoke with my parents” Her eyes widened “Oh yeah, you were that small blue heeler girl, now I remember you” her daughter had looked at her confused “Hey wait, I think one of my older siblings mentioned you before, they said that you said that you were a red heeler but-” she was quickly shushed by her mother. “Don’t bring up bad things” Her daughter continued to look confused “But she said her name is Bluey when her name is Midnight!” Bluey’s eyes widened “W-what? How would you know that name?” she asked. Aki looked at her daughter “Hey, focus on how you’re going to apologize to your siblings over some cookies alright?” she said with a bit of an annoyed tone. “Y-yeah, sorry mom” she said. “Erm… Bluey , right? Ignore what she says, she usually says weird things when she’s hungry or angry and we’ve been out all day” she said with a sheepish smile. “Anyway, we should be getting home now so he can apologize to her siblings” Bluey raised an eyebrow “Oh…is everything okay?” Aki nodded “Yeah, she just had a fight with her siblings over some cookies that she had hidden and they managed to find them then eat them all” The two began to walk away from her “Take care of that baby Mid- Bluey” she said. Bluey looked down at her stomach and waved at her “Thank you” she said with a wave. “Why do I always get a weird feeling whenever I talk with them? How could they possibly know Midnight?” she asked with a flustered expression. She wanted to mind her own business but after they had got a distance away, she had got up to follow them. Once they had turned a corner, she had sped up to find them and eavesdrop on them, however much to her confusion they had seemed to just vanish into thin air. Had they somehow managed to escape her sight? Did they realize that she was following them and become suspicious? Either way Bluey had sighed and gave up, perhaps she would see them again, at some point.
Within a few more months, Bluey saw herself preparing for her wedding with Mackenzie, while she was secretly a little enthusiastic about it, she would be lying if she said that she wasn’t a little bit curious about how it would feel to be a wife. With this, she knew that she would not have much time left, her baby would arrive in about two more months and that left her feeling a mix of different emotions “Guess I have to do this as well” she said to herself. She went over to her parents house where she was greeted by some family and a few of her friends, Chilli would help her into her dress, something that she noted that made her feel genuinely happy, once she had finished, Chilli had left her alone in the bathroom for a few minutes, then once she had looked in the mirror, her thoughts had hit her pretty hard “You’re changing Midnight…you’re the one that’s vanishing at this rate” she rolled her eyes “Was this something I wanted all along? So strange…” she thought to herself as she realized that she was feeling more for everyone, was her Midnight persona vanishing? She was unaware of whether it was true or not but this whole thing was making her feel conflicted “This…this isn’t right, I should NOT be getting attached to these dogs like this, only my family!” she sighed. After a few seconds of silence, Bluey began to giggle “I can’t forget Bluey” she thought as she would go about her day while still carrying out her long and arduous plan.
Finally, the day of the child’s birth had come. Bluey was taken to the hospital by Mackenzie once her water had broken and now she would lay on a bed “We finally get to meet” She said with a smile as she told Mackenzie. Mackenzie nodded “That’s right, I really can’t wait for our little one” he said as he held Bluey’s hand “Stop it. Don’t touch me, don’t look at me. Don’t even smile at me…this is your fault” she had wanted to tell him, however she remained silent even though there were times when she had snapped at him due to the pregnancy changing her emotions. “You know, Snickers told me that you had been acting differently lately, and I told him it could be because of you being pregnant. Anyway I just wanted to apologize to you” he said. Bluey raised her eyebrow “Apologize?” she asked. Mackenzie nodded “Well, it’s my fault that you’re going through all of this, the pain from the baby, the mood swings, the weird feelings, so I just wanted to say I’m sorry and that I love you” Bluey felt her heart skip a beat with Mackenzie’s apology. She blushed and gave him a quick kiss “I can’t be mad with you” she said “This isn’t fair…why does all of this happen now? I can feel myself slipping, I need to keep Bluey safe…but I feel like…” her mind ran with conflicting thoughts. Over the course of the next five hours, Bluey and Mackenzie would patiently wait, Mackenzie would happily endure the pain that Bluey was inflicting upon his hands and wrists while she would go through her contractions. Soon, Bluey would give birth to a small mostly-red heeler pup that had inherited most of her features from her father. Despite this, she was a huge reminder of who Bluey had lost and lots of things Bluey and all of her friends had endured over these last few years. “That’s right…what happened to Bingo…and everyone else, it was all my fault…my fault…..my fault” she felt a strong pain in her heart but there was nothing she could do about it, at least not now. “At least now, I feel more sure about the decision, I know that I should be punished”
A few more months would pass and Bluey and Mackenzie would spend time bonding with their child who Bluey had named Bingo, Mackenzie believed it was to honor Bluey’s sister but Bluey named her that as a constant reminder of the dog that she had killed. She truly did love her child but her guilt had grown every time she had called her daughter’s name and spent alone time with her daughter. Mackenzie would approach the two while they were watching television together “I need to go run some errands real quick and buy Bingo some more food before she runs out” Bluey looked at him “Oh, you don’t want us to come with?” Mackenzie smiled and shook his head “Nah, you two relax together, I’ll see you when I get back” he said before kissing her forehead then looking at Bingo “Daddy will be right back, you be a good girl and keep your mum company, alright Bingo?” he asked with a playful smile. Bingo gave her father a small smile and watched as he walked away “Um, Mackenzie?” Bluey said. Mackenzie stopped and turned to look at her “Yeah babe?” After a few short seconds of silence, Bluey spoke “I love you” she said with a blush. He rubbed the back of his head and smiled at her “I love you too” he said before leaving the home and getting in his car. Bluey waited a few minutes and once she was sure he was gone she looked at her small daughter. “Bingo…I know you can’t understand me but I need to let you know, I am sorry for what I will do.” She sighed “I can only hope that you grow up to be a big, happy girl and stay good for your dad” Bingo would play with Bluey’s hand and giggle, then she would continue to smile at Bluey and make little cooing noises. Bluey teared up at this, was this really the only choice left for her? After feeling intense frustration, Bluey would sigh, she held her daughter close and laid back on the couch. Bingo would drift off to sleep in her mother’s arms “Sweet Dreams little one” she whispered as she gently laid the baby on its stomach in the cot.
Bluey would walk into the bathroom and look into the mirror “I…I love them! Both of them! I can’t hurt them…” she said “But I’m supposed to end her pain” in the mirror she would see Midnight instead of Bluey, the reflection was still as dark as it had appeared in the hospital. Midnight’s eyes appeared to change color in the mirror and Bluey would appear behind her, Bluey had reverted to her child form as she gave Midnight a smile. Midnight closed her eyes, she was in the desert again where she saw Bluey standing at the oasis “Bluey…I think it’s time that… you died” the heat in the desert had vanished, soon ice had formed all over, turning it into a frozen desert. “Rest…” she said. However a strange shadowy figure that was in a familiar shape had appeared. It looked like an odd combination of both Bluey and Bingo “Bluey…if you won’t face the truth, then face me!” it spoke slowly and appeared to drip ooze “Face the suffering you’ve caused for the people you love. The pain of knowing what you’ve lost, and the hatred of yourself for being too cowardly to change anything about it. Let those feelings consume you until your insides rot.” Midnight recognized this strange being as her more sinister half that she referred to as Royal . Royal would move towards Bluey and she would run away from the horrifying apparition. Royal would try to force the cold desert to stop Bluey from escaping, until Midnight would turn the tides by causing Royal to get impaled by icicles. Midnight then hugged Bluey “I will love them for you, just…rest” Bluey nodded and smiled before vanishing. Royal stared at her original self “Bluey…so you’ve chosen to live that way. I wonder. Can you really call that living?” Midnight nodded silently. Royal sighed and looked at her former aggressive counterpart “Leave me here. There’s no hope left for me” She said without emotion. Soon the icicles that penetrated her body would consume her and turn her into a huge pillar of ice, putting a permanent end to Royal.
“I will be the dog you and Bingo can be proud of…I am Bluey now” Midnight said. Once she opened her eyes she looked back into the mirror, all she saw staring at her was Bluey’s reflection, a reflection that had seemed brighter, she then smiled at herself. Bingo would cry in her cot “I’m coming!” Bluey told her small child. Once she approached the cot she would gently rock the small baby and go to the fridge, pull out a small bottle, place it in the microwave and heat it for a few seconds, then feed Bingo once it had reached the right temperature. After Bingo had finished drinking her milk, Bluey would then burp her and talk to her quietly “Dad’s gone out to get you some more food, in the meantime why don’t you let mum read you a nice story?” she asked the small pup. She would read to and play with Bingo until she would fall asleep once again. “I really am a mama to a small dog, this still feels unreal” she said. She would yawn and lay down on the couch, with her child on her stomach, she would then slowly drift off to sleep.
Bluey was running with Bingo on the playground “Hey Bluey, you want to go play on the swings?” Bingo asked. Bluey smiled and nodded at her younger sister “Oh yeah, that sounds like a lot of fun!” she responded. “Mind if we join in?” a voice asked from behind. The two sisters turned to see Gruber and Pretzel “Um, yeah sure, I don't see why not” Bluey said with a small smile on her face. “Why don’t you see who can swing the highest?” Pompom asked “That’s actually a good idea!” Bingo said. Bluey nodded in agreement “Yeah that sounds like fun” It would not take long but the children would all happily play various games together at the park with each other. Soon, Honey and Jean-Luc would joint them as well, Bluey was a bit hesitant to allow them to join…for some reason but she decided to move past it and let them join in as well. The kids were being watched by Pat, Daisy, and Marcus, who had all chatted amongst themselves, despite how odd everything felt, Bluey decided not to question it, she felt like she had not played with Bingo in a long time but it did not matter, as long as she was with her sister and having the time of her life, nothing could ruin this moment.
Bluey stretched and felt her stomach, her child was no longer resting on her, worried that her child could have possibly rolled off, Bluey quickly opened her eyes and looked around for the young pup “Bingo?” she looked to the floor and fortunately the small pup was not there, but where was she? She sat up and looked around the room “Looking for someone?” Mackenzie asked. Bluey quickly turned around to see her husband carefully holding their child. Bluey had simply smiled “She was trying to talk with you, but you were asleep so I just decided to talk to her instead” he nuzzled his daughter who seemed interested in his ears. “Have a good dream?” he asked. Bluey nodded “Yeah, I guess you could say something like that” she responded. Mackenzie winced as Bingo had pulled on his ear “O-ow…anyway what was it about?” he asked. “Oh you know, just a group of kids playing together in a park and having fun, the usual dreams that I tend to have” she said while watching Bingo. Mackenzie had managed to get her to let go of his ear “Was…Bingo there?” he asked. Bluey nodded “She was, but I’m not sad to wake up and see that she’s not here anymore. I mean it is sad but…I think I’ve managed to come to terms with it” She said, doing her best to convince herself. While he felt like Bluey was behaving slightly differently, he would just chalk it up to her still being a new parent, unaware that he was speaking with Midnight instead of the Bluey that he had grown to love.
“Hey Bluey?” Honey asked. “Yes Honey?” she said. “You think Bingo is happy to be here?” Mackenzie asked. Bluey thought about it for a few seconds before nodding “I hope so, I mean personally I am glad that she’s here with us, and I will do whatever I can to keep her happy and satisfied” she replied. “I think she’s happy, she has you here after all and you must mean the world to her” Mackenzie said. Bluey giggled “That makes me happy to hear, because I know for a fact that she means the world to me!” Honey looked at her a bit confused “How would you feel if things went wrong?” she asked. Bluey shrugged “Well, I would probably be sad but as long as I have Bingo, I think I will be okay” “As long as you have Bingo huh? Well I guess that’s fair” Mackenzie said as he sat next to Bluey and the two admired Bingo. “I love Bingo so much, so as long as she’s with me, I feel like nothing could ruin my mood” she hugged the younger dog “And I promise that I will do my best to keep her in a fairly good mood” though he wouldn’t be able to tell, Bluey would be talking about both her daughter and her sister who just happened to share the same name, even if he couldn’t see what she was seeing, it made it much more easy for her to hide her sanity slippage from him. Not like he and their friends would know though, as far as they knew, she was still the same old Bluey, who was recovering from her traumatic experience.
