Chapter 15: Ryeowook

Summary:

Ryeowook spends too much time welling in self doubt until Kyuhyun catches him. They finally talk.

Chapter Text

Kissing Donghae should be the best feeling in the world. Had Ryeowook not wanted this ever since he laid eyes on Donghae?

Then why did he feel as if he was doing this for Kyuhyun instead?

But Kyuhyun was so happy, egging him on with such gusto that Ryeowook could only obey him. Then he had left Donghae to look after him. Did he even know how torn up Ryeowook already felt about fucking his suitor?

When Donghae had left after copious assurances that he was going to be fine, Ryeowook had curled up in bed and debated calling Siwon. The man might be uninterested in forming romantic attachments, but at least he gave good advice, and at best, he could just hold him and kiss him and Ryeowook could pretend that it was love.

“Ryeonggu?” Ryeowook was deep in the throes of his self-deprecation when Kyuhyun came hopping through his bedroom door. “Oh no.”

Long arms came snaking around his waist, and despite his reservations, he let Kyuhyun pull him into his embrace, nose tickling him.

“What’s wrong?” Kyuhyun murmured into his neck. “You’re sad.”

“I’m not,” Ryeowook mumbled.

He could feel Kyuhyun’s pout against his skin immediately, his best friend snuggling into him harder.

“Don’t lie to me,” Kyuhyun said, pinching him. “Was it Donghae hyung? Where is he? I told him to take care of you.”

“I told him to go,” Ryeowook sighed, nestling his head into Kyuhyun’s shoulder. Kyuhyun was so soft that it was hard not to snuggle with him. “I wanted to be alone.”

“Why? Don’t you like him?” The sentence stopped Ryeowook cold, and he stared at Kyuhyun in disbelief.

“Why are you looking at me like that? You’re his friend. Don’t you like him?”

“I– do?” Ryeowook said slowly.

“You like it when he fucks you?” Kyuhyun asked. Ryeowook grimaced, rubbing a hand over his face.

“I do but I don’t think– we shouldn’t do it again, Kyu. Sex should mean something.”

“But it does.” Kyuhyun’s face twisted and he looked so upset that Ryeowook wondered if he had said something wrong. “It does mean something to me.”

He frowned at at Ryeowook.

“Did it not mean anything to you?” His voice grew so tiny that Ryeowook lurched forward, cupping his cheek.

“I just meant between you and Donghae hyung,” he said hurriedly. “I’m happy– happy for you to play with me on the side–.”

“I’m not playing with you!” Kyuhyun sounded so shocked that he could even think such a thing. He gripped Ryeowook harder, tipping his chin up so that he could look him in the eye. “How can you say that? You’re my best friend!”

Ryeowook was not sure if he wanted to laugh or cry. But he did not have to make the decision, as Kyuhyun leaned down to seal their lips together. It was a normal kiss. They did this all the time, but somehow, something felt different.

“Kkyu?” Ryeowook murmured when they pulled apart, leaning their foreheads together.

“This means something to me,” Kyuhyun said firmly. He stared at Ryeowook with his galaxy eyes, like he was waiting for Ryeowook to come to the conclusion himself.

“Oh.”

“Donghae hyung knows,” Kyuhyun rushed on. “He said I should tell you. I thought– I thought you knew.”

“That you felt more than friendship for me? Kyu, I can’t read your mind!” Ryeowook groaned, and Kyuhyun kissed him again, swallowing the sound.

“I thought you were smart,” Kyuhyun reprimanded.

“Wait, what about Donghae hyung?”

“He knows. He likes you too.”

“He didn’t like me the last time I sent him a letter,” Ryeowook muttered. He had not meant for Kyuhyun to hear that, but Kyuhyun merely stared at him, wide eyed.

“You what–?”

“Nothing. It was a long time ago.”

“Yah, Kim Ryeowook. You fancied Donghae hyung?”

Ryeowook let out an oof when Kyuhyun sat on him, groaning. He flapped it his hand at him desperately, trying to shove him off.

But Kyuhyun held his position, squeezing with his soft thighs until Ryeowook was squirming, struggling to free himself.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because you liked him too.”

“But you wrote him a letter.”

“He didn’t– he didn’t like me back.”

Ryeowook tried not to sound sad about it but Kyuhyun was using his perceptive muscles that day.

“His loss,” he declared immediately, which made Ryeowook giggle.

“Kyu, he’s your boyfriend.”

“And he’s yours too. He likes you now. He told me he fell in love with the letters. And you’re the one who wrote the letters.”

Ryeowook swallowed, playing with Kyuhyun’s fingers.

“Really?” he asked, doubtful. “He didn’t say anything last night.”

“To be fair he was screwing your brains out,” Kyuhyun said. Ryeowook’s cheeks flushed red and he hit him hard in the chest.

“Cho Kyuhyun!”

Donghae returned after nightfall, skulking into the room when Ryeowook was distracted by Kyuhyun trying to kiss every available surface. He stopped mid squeal when he spotted Donghae, sound stoppered in his throat when Donghae gave him a sheepish smile.

“Hello,” he murmured shyly.

“Hyung, come join us!” Kyuhyun called.

“I think– we need to talk?” Donghae said, a little breathless. “Kyu, let go of him so we can talk properly.”

Kyuhyun snorted before he dropped down to mouth at Ryeowook’s collarbones.

“You two talk,” he mumbled, words muffled into Ryeowook’s skin. “We already did the talking early while you were out.”

Donghae sighed, giving Ryeowook a pleading look. Ryeowook could only shrug his shoulders, burying one hand into Kyuhyun’s hair.

“Kyu,” he groaned. “I won’t be able to focus– ah!”

“It’s very simple!” Kyuhyun sighed. “Hyung, just tell him what you told me!”

Ryeowook met Donghae’s eyes over Kyuhyun’s shoulder, giving him an apologetic smile.

“Ryeowook ah, I– I know I turned you down that time when you sent me that letter but–. I– It was your letters,” Donghae stammered, folding his hands in front of him. “It was your letters that made me fall for you.”

“Oh.” Ryeowook winced, tugging gently at Kyuhyun’s hair. “So– when you let me participate last night–.”

“It’s not just sex,” Donghae said hurriedly. “It’s not. I want– I want you.”

Kyuhyun made a dissatisfied sound from Ryeowook’s chest and Donghae nearly tripped over himself to add on.

“And Kyu,” he said, looking a little shamefaced.

“So a threesome?” Ryeowook asked, grimacing again when Kyuhyun put his head back down.

“It’s polyamory,” Kyuhyun announced into Ryeowook’s shirt. “We’re all together now. Can we please skip to the kissing part now? Crisis over. Averted. I want kisses.”

Ryeowook laughed, shaking his head as he let Kyuhyun push him down onto the bed. He gestured with his only free hand, beckoning to Donghae.

“Come on, hyung. Our brat wants kisses.”

And kisses he shall have, because Ryeowook is too weak, too soft for Kyuhyun. And as Donghae climbed up on the bed, shy smile melting into something more eager, Ryeowook lets himself finally believe that this is real. This is happening. He gets to have not one but two loves of his life.

Courtship season did not turn out so bad after all.
