Chapter Text
The drive to Hobie's boat was silent and all Miles could do was curse himself.
He should have known better than to invite Hobie to dinner and he only hoped that the other could forgive him for this shitshow.
His parents were a lot and he knew that, even if he couldn't believe how abhorrent they behaved towards his lover.
He knew that the last few weeks were rough for them, especially with the stress at work and the fact that Milo accidentally joined a gang, but that wasn't acceptable.
This was the first evening that they had both free and they had to spend it scrutinizing his new lover and making him feel bad.
Hobie was really beautiful and silly in his way, but he could see why they wouldn't be supportive of him.
He wasn't what his dad saw as a "Good man", as horrible as it sounded.
Part of him felt stupid that he hoped that it could go any other way.
Miles would also curse his brother for getting them into that situation in the first place, if it weren't for the fact that they just stopped fighting.
He was still too tired to start another argument with him, especially with the fear that it could escalate again.
Rotten vibes and all that shit.
"Hey, I am sorry how everything turned out. I just don't do well with parents or police officers."
Hobie gently squeezed his chest and he quickly shook his head.
He wouldn't allow him to take fault where there was none.
"No! It wasn't your fault! My parents shouldn't have questioned you like that! They are just-, I'm sorry."
It was all his fault for not standing up for the others enough and for not warning him.
He should have been better.
The pier soon came into view, making him slow the motorcycle down, before eventually stopping.
He rather not have his expensive motorcycle fall into the sea, after working so hard for it.
As they walked the rest of the way to Hobie's boat, the older boy gently grabbed his hand and stopped.
"Miles... is it safe for you to return home?"
He sounded genuinely worried as he gently squeezed his hand.
The punk looked sick, as if he ate something rotten.
What was unlikely, since he barely ate anything from the great food his mother made.
"I really pissed them off, didn't I? I just-, I'm worried, ok?"
His grasp on his hand became nearly painful, as he quickly shook his head.
He didn't like what the other boy was insinuating.
His parents would never lay a hand on him.
"Don't be. Even if they seemed intrusive and overbearing, they wouldn't do that."
The Harpy leaned into the other space, as his partner wrapped his arms around him.
His poor boy was scared for his well-being as if he was the one who lived alone on a boat.
It would be flattering in a weird way if it wasn't stressing the other out so much.
"The worst thing that they could do is ground me or take away my phone."
Hobie's heart was beating like crazy, the stench of stress and anxiety clinging onto him like some bad perfume.
It was overwhelming.
He couldn't help himself, as a worried chirp, mixed with a soft growl escaped his throat.
Miles didn't want him to feel bad for what happened.
The punk deserved so much better.
He croned softly, in the same way that his mom often did if his das was stressed.
Miles knew that he couldn't copy the sound well, but he wanted to at least try to get his lover out of that mood.
The other boy looked surprised, a small gasp coming from him and the harpy quickly slapped his hands over his mouth.
That was stupid of him. More than just stupid.
Hobie wasn't like his dad and wasn't aware of his monster side.
For him to just chirp like a bird must look extremely weird, especially after the whole dinner fiasco.
He must think that he was insane.
"Sorry-, that was weird-"
He couldn't end his sentence, as the other pressed himself closer to him and gently hummed against his ear, as if he was the only one that was allowed to hear.
Miles couldn't do anything else than freeze in shock, because that wasn't a human sound.
"Hobie?"
That couldn't be, could it?
He couldn't be wrong about Hobie being human, right?
Sure, his awareness of the supernatural was bad and Milo did say that his dearest wasn't human, but still.
"It's alright dear. I know."
Gently, the other boy grabbed his hands and placed them on his flustered cheeks.
Soft scales appeared all over the body of the other, as he sighted and relaxed beneath his grasp.
His eyes were glowing in the soft moonlight, as they were fixated on him like he was prey.
Miles couldn't help the warmth that was growing in his cheeks.
"You are really pretty-, how are you that pretty?!"
Hobie laughed, as he pressed their cheeks together in an affectionate way.
"I was always this pretty Luv."
He broke into laughter himself, as he pulled the other towards the boat.
They were still out in the open, where others could see and Miles wanted to reveal himself like the other did.
The thought made him feel weirdly giddy and happy.
He had never shown himself to anyone outside of his family before, out of fear of getting hurt in the process.
Peni and Noit didn't count, as they walked in on him when he had acted stupid.
Milo or even his Mom never had that problem, especially when other monsters were involved.
They just lived out their true nature without any fault or fear.
Then again, they didn't have the fucked up wings that he had.
But with Hobie it was different.
It felt safe with him because he knew that he wouldn't joke about his toddler wings.
The shift came easily to him, as the boat was swaying from their fast movements and them all but falling onto Hobie's small bed.
"Holy shit-"
The other was gently trailing his fingers down his wing, touch feather light and as carefully as if he was made out of glass.
It felt good. It felt right.
"They are so soft-"
He laughed out, as he pulled the other into a tight hug.
Hobie nearly melted into him, a happy sound escaping him.
He could make out that the other had gone into a full shift, a tail slightly curling around his body.
Miles didn't know where he started and where Hobie ended.
"Fuck. I think that I died and somehow ended up in heaven-"
The other hummed again, as he smiled at him.
"Did your dad shoot me or were you always an angel?"
He growled as he pressed his cheek against the other.
Miles really didn't like that his lover would think that his dad would just murder a kid.
"Funny."
For some reason, the angle comment made him feel extremely flustered.
That wasn't even a creative term of endearment.
Slowly Hobie sat up, freeing himself from that short-lived, soft embrace.
Now that they were in the soft light of the boat, he could see that his scales were in pretty red.
The tone indicated danger and even 25edeath, but Miles couldn't help but feel attracted to it.
How could he not when they were part of his lover?
"Hello there pretty thing, my name is Miles and I am a Harpy that would like to be your boyfriend."
Hobie barked out a laugh as he hummed happily.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Harpy! My name is Hobie and I am a Siren that would like to get smothered by your wings. Kisses and cuddles would also be nice."
It was silly, but it still felt important to renew their introductions.
The other teen let himself fall back onto his chest with a huff, as he gently rewrapped his wings around him.
He wanted to be smothered after all and Miles was more than glad to do that with his love.
"Say, I know that this is a weird question-, but was it your brother that attacked me and ended our first date? Do I need to worry about when I am going to meet your uncle?"
