Chapter Text
Let’s do a little recap on the situation. Here, we have Sakurada Marin, a seemingly normal girl suddenly remembering her past life after a bad car accident. She then proceeded to tell her cousin, Shinso Hitoshi, about her past life and he reluctantly believed her. Unfortunately, Marin found herself in a sticky situation when she and Hitoshi were discussing about the possibility of a traitor in the U.A.
“What do you mean by traitor ?”
Marin and Hitoshi froze mid-conversation. Someone just overheard their conversation about a possible traitor in the school facility. A very controversial topic to be discussed over lunch. Just knowing that there's a possibility of a traitor in UA can get them killed, or worse, expelled. Marin grabbed Hitoshi's arm tightly. She got careless and now they're at risk. On the good side, the voice talking to them is the voice of someone familiar. On the bad side, it's someone familiar. What if it's a teacher? They could get in trouble. Did she just drag Hitoshi into an unnecessary problem? But what if it's a student instead? Will they panic? Did they just potentially cause mass hysteria? What if it’s the traitor themselves that overheard them?
“Excuse me, I accidentally overheard you talking, but did you just say that there’s a potential villain assistant in UA?” The stranger (or not a stranger since they sound familiar?) asked again. Marin kept her head down, she’s shaking, scared to see who’s talking to her. She feels Hitoshi shifts and she tightens her grip on his arm, signaling to him not to say anything. Hitoshi moves and positions himself between Marin and the other guy. Oh no, this is starting to get weird. What if that person is getting the wrong idea about them. Marin takes a deep breath and looks up, and gets surprised when she sees—
“Toogata-senpai?”
“Yes, Sakurada-san?”
“Why are you here?”
“That should be my question since I accidentally overheard you both talking about a traitor? ” Mirio crosses his arm and shoots Marin with a questioning look.
Marin looks like she's considering how to answer him for a while. She glanced at Hitoshi who signaled her to answer Mirio. Marin sighs and takes off her glasses. She hates doing this. She really hates having to use her quirk like this.
"Shit, I hate doing this." She grabs Mirio's face pulling him close to her face, forcing him to look her in the eyes. His blue eyes meet her glowing pink eyes. Hitoshi gasped when he realized what she's trying to do.
"Toogata Mirio, you didn't hear anything I or Hitoshi said about the traitor. You just walked this corridor when you accidentally met me, who's going to return your blazer." Marin commanded, her glowing eyes looking straight into Mirio's empty eyes. The glow in her eyes fades and she releases the poor upperclassmen. Mirio's straighten his posture and blinks a few times in confusion.
"Senpai, I am sorry but I left your blazer at my class, do you mind if I take it to your class later?" Marin asked him as if nothing happened.
"Huh? Uh… What?" Mirio stutters groggily.
"Your blazer? Your uniform? I promised to return it after I washed it? I told you that I finished cleaning it and will return it today, remember?" Marin repeated herself more clearly. Mirio blinks a few times looking disoriented.
"Oh… yeah, blazer. Yes, you can."
"Great! Can I know what class you are in?"
"Yeah, yeah it's 3-B." Mirio's eyebrows frown as if he can't remember something. Well, technically he actually can't remember something, he just doesn't know.
"Alright, I'm going to grab it at my class real quick and bring it to your class." Marin drags Hitoshi away before Mirio can ask her more. Marin steals a glance back at the Mirio who stands alone, confused in an empty corridor.
"What the fuck was that?" Hitoshi asks after they turn a corner and are sure no one can hear them.
"Wait, I will answer you, but let me just get rid of this headache first." Marin grabs her head, wincing at the pain she feels behind her eyes.
"Did you seriously just use your quirk? You know you can't use it more than a minute a day." Hitoshi scolds her.
"Thirty seconds."
"What?"
"I can only use my quirk for thirty seconds a day if I overwrite someone's memory." Marin groans.
"What do you mean by overwriting memory?"
"I found out recently that I can overwrite people's memory using my quirk, so apparently my quirk's real power is not mind control but gaslight." Marin laughs, she waves her hand dismissively.
"Marin, this is not a joke."
"Oh it's fine, Toshi, the worst that'll happen is me getting a nosebleed— oh shit!" Almost as if mocking her, red blood starts trickling down from her nose. Hitoshi hands her his handkerchief to stop the blood from staining her uniform.
"I thought you won't use your quirk anymore since it's basically useless?" Hitoshi watches as Marin tries to stop the bleeding. She gives him a side eye while leaning her body to the wall.
"I won't, but it was an emergency so I gotta do what I gotta do."
"Fair enough." Hitoshi shrugs. "What about the whole traitor thing tho?"
"Well, though I prefer to see everything play out according to the original script, I think it'll be better to give a hint to one of the teachers."
“Which teacher?”
“How about the headmaster? Surely he can do something about it?” Marin suggests.
“And how are you going to meet him?” Hitoshi asks. Marin frowns, her finger on her lips while she thinks hard.
“How about Aizawa-sensei? He’s the Hero Course’s teacher.”
“With no evidence? Yea good luck trying to make him believe you” Hitoshi retorts.
“Well then how about you help me think??” Marin snaps, annoyed at her cousin. Hitoshi looks like he’s thinking over it.
“How about All Might?” He suggests. Marin rolls her eyes at his answer.
“All Might? Of all people? Dude, if there's a villain out there trying to, I don’t know, infiltrate the safest place on earth? Don’t you think they might be there to take down All Might?” They both go back to brainstorming. Lunch time is already over and the corridors are getting quieter, and these cousins are still standing around in an empty corridor. Hitoshi is about to end their brainstorming session when Marin sees someone walking in the opposite direction.
“Toshi, I found our answer.”
“What— who?” Hitoshi turns around and there he sees at the end of the corridor. Their English teacher. Yamada Hizashi, famously known as Present Mic. He’s walking towards them, book in hand, his signature smile on his face.
“He teaches Hero Course, he’s close enough to Aizawa-sensei, and he likes to gossip so he will believe us one way or another.” Marin whispers as they see Hizashi walking towards them. At this point, Hitoshi has no choice but to agree with his cousin since there’s no better candidate to drop hints than their English teacher.
“Hello, little listeners! Why are you two still in the hallway? I believe I’m going to your class next, correct?” He greets the two students with his usual cheerful demeanor. Though his eyes are scanning the two, wondering why these students are outside when the bell has already ring.
“Oh, yes, our next class is your class, sensei. We were going to the school’s nurse since I had a nosebleed and Hitoshi was taking me there.” As if rehearsed, Marin answers the questions smoothly. She even purposefully showing Hitoshi’s bloody handkerchief she used to stop her nosebleed so Hizashi can see it.
“Oh dear, are you alright now? It seems you both didn’t make it to the school’s nurse’s office.” There is concern in Hizashi’s voice. Marin almost feels guilty for lying to this good man, but she gotta do what she gotta do, right?
“It’s alright now, thank you for your concern, Yamada-sensei. It’s just a little nosebleed, I tend to get them when the weather changes too drastically or I get scared, stressed or panic.” Hizashi looks a little relieved when Marin tells him she’s okay. He understands if this little girl got panicked after the mess that happened during their lunch time. ‘Poor girl, she was so shocked from the earlier mess that she got a nosebleed. Thankfully she has a very understanding friend with her.’ Hizashi thought to himself.
“Aw, don’t be scared, it was just the media. I took care of it with Aizawa-sensei. How about we all walk to class together? Your friend over here is so kind as to take you to the school’s nurse.” He gestured to the two to follow him to class. Hitoshi is slightly nudging Marin, confused as to what he is supposed to do. Marin gives him a look that says ‘just shut up and follow me’.
“Well, we’re kinda obligated to help each other here, sensei, since we’re cousins.” Marin chirps as she follows Hizashi to their classroom. Hitoshi frowns at Marin’s response. Well, he kinda wants to keep them being cousins a little bit of a secret even though he knows soon or later their friends will know.
“My! Cousins! So that’s why you two are so close! There are quite a lot of cousins around the school since a lot of our students are from a lineage of hero families and such, but there aren’t many in the regular course!” Hizashi seems excited by the fact that the two students who are walking with him are families. Hitoshi mutters under his breath that they just happen to enroll into the same school by chance.
“But sensei, how did the media get into UA? I thought the door was so big and thick that they just can’t get inside that easily?” Marin asks, trying to look genuinely curious even though she already knows the whys and hows. Hizashi looks hesitant for a while before he lowers his voice.
“Don’t tell anyone about this, okay, but apparently someone got a disintegrating quirk in the crowd, and they kinda disintegrated the gate, so that’s how the media got in.” He whispers to the kids. Marin gasps, pretending to be shocked.
“Oh my, sensei, don’t you think there’s a bigger villain behind them? Like in one of those movies? Maybe this incident is like a warning from them or something? Or maybe like one of those diversion before they strike somewhere else? Like, maybe their real target is All Might, and they originally want to target the class All Might teaches? Like, just maybe??” Marin responded enthusiastically. Hizashi frowns at her like he didn’t expect such an enthusiastic response to such a dire situation.
“Please excuse her, sensei, she’s been watching too many true crime and conspiracy theory videos.” Hitoshi chirps, trying to keep so that his cousin won’t seem too suspicious. Hizashi raises his eyebrows before he decides to let it slide.
“Well, that is definitely a possibility, and that is definitely an excellent analysis on your side, Sakurada-san, I will let the principal and All Might know about it. Though I prefer you just leave the analyzing to the professional heroes, and your job,” he stops in front of their class, letting the two enter before him with a smile on his face, “is to study hard. And maybe cut back on the conspiracy theories videos.”
“He almost sussed you back there.” Hitoshi whispers when they get to their seats. Now they have thrown the bait, all they can do is just wait and see if their talkative teacher bites it or not.
