Chapter Text

"You guys are about to feel really lucky!"

"What's up, Kaidou?" Hairo responded, right in the middle of what he was saying to Kuboyasu.

"I, the Jet-Black Wings, am granting you all permission to stay at my secret base, where I typically live with my mother and siblings." Kaidou said to the group while they were walking away from the school. Sure, it wasn't the usual group that would be walking home together, but they were still rather close. "None of them will be home until Monday."

'I don't want to be home alone.' Saiki heard from Kaidou's head, and he nodded in agreement. Kuboyasu did the same, while Hairo yelled something about how they would grow their bond as friends.

But he also caught another thought from Kaidou, similar to the last one, but ever more confusing.

'I don't think I could handle three whole days with nothing but my thoughts to keep me company.'

It sounded depressing, and Saiki had never heard any of Kaidou's thoughts being as close to a cry for help, usually, he was focused on Dark Reunion or his friends. It sounded closer to something he would think of himself than something Kaidou would come up with. And he wondered, what does he mean?

As the four made their way to Kaidou's house, Saiki decided to walk next to Kaidou, which took him to the front of the group. He'd been over to Kaidou's before, so he knew the route there without using any of his powers. He made a point to listen in on Kaidou's thoughts, some of which surprised him to no end.

'Why did Saiki speed up just to walk next to me? Does he think I'll make a wrong turn? Does he want to talk? Does he not actually want to come over, so he's planning to run?'

While none of which were true, except maybe the thing about making a wrong turn (he'd already changed the direction they were walking in three times), Saiki found it oddly comforting that Kaidou worried about him so much. In reality, it was easier to put his thoughts at the forefront of his mind if he was closer to Kaidou. But he had no way of knowing that because he hadn't known that Saiki was a psychic.

This left him nearly touching Kaidou in an attempt to weed out his thoughts from Hairo and Kuboyasu's. Hey, I think this is one of the few times I've ever been happy I could read minds.

He changed the direction they were walking in again, planting a message in Kaidou's mind that it was left at the intersection, not forward.

When they finally arrived at Kaidou's house, he showed Hairo and Kuboyasu to the guest room. "There's only one guest room, so either all of us can share a room, or we can split it up into two of us in a room?"

"I'll stay in your room, Kaidou." Even with all of Kaidou's chuunibyou-ness, Saiki figured it was better than staying with Kuboyasu and/or Hairo all night.

He blinked, seeing as Kaidou went red. Like, very red. His thoughts were a jumbled mess of 'Saiki' and 'Like' and just random nonsense.

Why does Kaidou think like that? It reminds me of Aiura or Teruhashi, but I'm not as opposed to it as I would be if it were them…

Strange. I'll think about that later.

As they passed through the house, Saiki took notice of several post-it notes around the house. One on the counter read, Don't make my house disgusting! -Mama while another one, this one on the fridge, read Remember to eat!!! -Sora

Something is definitely wrong , he thought as he noticed a note stuffed inside of a drawer, atop what had to have been a boxcutter. He couldn't read the note, not from this angle, but something told him it wasn't anything good.

I'll be keeping a much closer eye on him from now on.
