Chapter Text
Ragatha lay on her bed, staring up at the ceiling, her hair strewn about messily. Her sewing table was empty, she had tried sitting down and making a scarf but her mind was too occupied to do so. She couldn’t concentrate on practically anything, her mind felt like a tangled mess of yarn with the only throughline being Pomni. Images of her and Pomni kept replaying in her head, paralyzing the poor doll. She grabbed her pillow and held it against her face before she began screaming. It was frustrating to be unable to focus on anything but Pomni. Although it wasn’t too bad, the jester girl was rather cute. The way she hunched over, her eyes, the way her hair poked out from underneath her jester’s cap-
“Stopppppp!” Ragatha groaned, she didn’t know what was going on. All she knew was that thinking of Pomni was making her face feel burning hot.
Meanwhile, in another part of the tent, Pomni was making a pillow castle with Kinger.
“So… Kinger, where did you get the idea to build these fortresses?” Pomni asked, trying to find something to talk about with the crazy chess piece. She found him unnerving and weird, but at times they shared a brainwave and could just freak out together. He’d agreed to show her how to make an “impenetrable fortress” where she could have mental breakdowns in peace.
“Oh, I didn’t, Queenie did!” Kinger said, staring off into nothingness while holding a pillow. “Queenie…” He muttered to himself. Pomni didn’t know how to react to him being so still for once, it was like he’d frozen in place.
“Uhm…Kinger-” She placed a hand on what would be his shoulder, which caused him to jump and scream like usual.
“AAH- Oh, Pomni. Where were we?” Kinger asked, placing the pillow he was holding on to the structure.
“You were talking about Queenie… Who’s she? I haven’t seen her before…” Kinger stared at Pomni for a few seconds, she braced herself, awaiting for him to scream like usual. But instead, Kinger spoke in an unusually earnest tone.
“She’s my special someone! Well, was, I guess. She lost her marbles. Abstracticated, you know. Happened out of nowhere…. she helped me but uhh… You know, bloop and gone.” Pomni was surprised at the lack of Kinger-isms during his explanation.
“Oh my gosh… Kinger I’m so sorry…” Pomni said, not sure how to express that she empathized with the usually crazy King piece.
“...Wanna see my insect collection?” Kinger said, staring right into Pomni’s eyes and slowly sliding closer with no regard for her personal space.
"So uhm...How did you two meet?" Asked Pomni, trying to change the subject.
"Oh, I don't remember. We were already in love before we came here. I just remember that she was the most beautiful woman I could have ever asked for..." Kinger sighed, before sudddenly screaming and jumping as usual.
“AAAH- Oh, Pomni, when did you get there?” Pomni couldn’t help but sigh, much to the confusion of the king piece.
“Let’s get back to the fortresses…” Pomni said in an exasperated tone, taking in the bombshell that Kinger had dropped on her. The two then got back to building with the pillows, Kinger explaining what should and shouldn’t be done for the integrity of the pillow fortresses, while Pomni listened intently and built.
Ragatha was still laying in her bed long after Pomni and Kinger had wrapped up their activity, only getting up after having had enough of being unfocused. She dragged her feet as she made her way to the door out of her room. She opened it and looked outside, spotting Pomni with slouched posture hobbling to her room. Ragatha seized the opportunity and quickly stepped outside.
“Pomni! Hold on!” She called before running over.
“Oh, Ragatha, what is it? Did something happen?!” Pomni asked, quickly becoming very panicked, though a light chuckle from Ragatha reassured her that the scenarios in her head weren’t true.
“No, No, Nothing’s happened. I just wanted to… uhhh… hang out!” Yeah, that sounded good, right?
“Uhm…Oookay… Wanna go to your room or mine? Mine still makes me uncomfortable to be honest- Oh! I wanted to ask you to do something for me anyways. Could you make a scarf for Kinger? I want to thank him for showing me how to make pillow castles like he does…” Ragatha couldn’t help but smile. That was such a wholesome and kind gesture that made the little jester just that much more cute- Ragatha’s face began burning again.
“Uhm… Ragatha? Youuu okay?” Pomni asked as Ragatha stood there frozen, blushing wildly. Weird, her complexion looked even more soft than usual with the tones of pink dancing upon the doll's cheeks.
“Oh, yeah, yeah! Sorry, zoned out there- Come on then, I can help you make it!” Ragatha said as she began walking to her door with a smile, grabbing Pomni's hand. Ragatha did it impulsively, but to Pomni time almost froze as her mind began racing with the implications of handholding. Did Ragatha feel the same way? Was she not alone in here? Did this mean they were like, a thing?! Pomni barely even noticed what Ragatha said until she'd been dragged along a good few steps.
“Huh?! I thought you’d make it?!” Pomni asked in a panicked tone, eliciting another laugh from the Ragdoll girl.
