Chapter Text

Thankfully the flight went smoothly, you've always been a nervous flyer and it's safe to say the past week hasn't helped your mental state.
But your mum being with you on the plane really helped soothe the nerves.
As soon as you get your luggage after getting off the plane, the need to go home intensifies tenfold.
You and your mum have an emotional goodbye after she makes sure you're going to be okay on your own for the next few days.
The cab ride home is peaceful, its definitely not how you thought you'd be coming home from this trip like, but it works.
The only worry you've got is Harris, you don't know when he's coming back or if he already is?
The one thing you're eternally greatful for is that the two of you hadn't fully moved in together yet even though lots of his things were in your flat.
Finally the cab reaches your building quickly you get your luggage and make your way inside.
After the long trudge up the many flights of stairs you're finally home.
Although, it doesn't feel like home anymore.
Now it's just another place that's stained with memories of Harris.
So with a huff you drop your bags at the door and go get the bin bags and begin a mad rampage of shoving every single one of Harris's belongings into them.
He should be greatful you don't actually chuck the bags in the bin, you leave them in a cupboard, out of sight out of mind.
Finally you fall into the old sofa that sits in the corner of the living room.
This is when you feel like you can breath for the first time in days, slowly the tears pool in your eyes eventually spilling out and you let them, you need this.
The tears quickly turn into sobs which you decide to drown in a bottle of red, or that's the plan anyway untill your phone goes off.
It's Matty.
He's facetiming you.
Quickly you wipe the tears from your face and pick up.
There he is, he's got a warm smile on his face but that quickly distorts into a look of concern when he notices how red and puffy your eyes are.
"Hey, you alright?" He asks, concerned.
"Oh, shit uhm yeah m' fine" you lie straight through your teeth in a shaky, stuttering voice.
He raises an eyebrow.
"Elodie, please be honest what's the matter darling?"
All he wants to know is that you're actually okay.
"Just.. just.. Harris shit" You ignore the tears as they beggin to well in your eyes again.
"Elodie..do you want to talk about it?" He sympathies
"We don't have to" he adds trying not to push any boundaries.
"Can we not, not just now anyways" you wipe the last few tears from your face.
"Tell me about you, how's your day been?" You say trying to perk yourself back up.
"Yeah of course, uhm, well the reason I called you actually was to tell you that I'm flying into London tomorrow, instead"
That's like music to your ears and it instantly improves the mood of the call.
"Oh my god that's great news!" You exclaim excitedly
Matty smiles at the fact he was the one to cheer you up.
The conversation continues for a couple hours, and at the end of it you've made plans to go pick him up at the airport.
Although he did warn you about his friends he was flying home with because 'they like to take the piss out of me sometimes' as he put it.
Aswell as picking him up plans were also made to have your coffee date, because he said it was the first thing he wanted to do when he gets back because he was so excited about .
And like that's really sweet so of course you agree.

The next day

You thank your lucky stars that you didn't end up cracking that bottle of wine open last night, because Matty called you and inadvertently saved you from a horrendous hangover.
Because if you were hungover you don't know how you'd be in the car on the way to the airport right now.
If anyone you knew found out that you were on your way to pick Matty up from the airport they'd assume you've know eachother for ages but the fact it's been less than a week even surprises you.
Putting this much effort into a new and blossoming friendship is unlike you but something about it just feels right.

When you get to the airport you head to the arrivals gate.
After about 10 ish minutes of waiting, scrolling endlessly on your phone.
A familiar voice shouts excitedly across the room.
"Elodie!" Its Matty and he's scurrying over to you, all his luggage ditched next to the group of guys he was just with, you assume there his friends because you vaguely recognise... George? You think that's his name anyways.
You spring up from the uncomfortable seat so you can properly hug Matty.
"Oh my god hi!" You say into the crook of his neck.
"Missed you so fucking much" he replies with relief.
The two of you already act like life long friends.
"Missed you too" both of you have just glossed over the fact it's been just over a day since you saw each other last.

George's pov

As Adam and Ross look towards Matty and Elodie 'the bar girl' George speaks.
"I've called being best man, by the way"
Adam and Ross chuckle lightly.

Elodies pov

Reluctantly both of you pull away from the hug.
Matty softly smiles down at you, his brown curls falling infront of his eyes so gorgeously.
"Do you want to meet my mates?" He asks
"Yeah, course" you reply with a sweet smile
matching his.
He nonchalantly takes your hand.
This shouldn't be making your heart race as much as it does, should it?
It's such a simple action that has got both of you in an internally flustered state, although neither of you outwardly react.
You walk over to the group.
"Elodie These are the guys" Matty says and points to the blonde man from the other night and tells you his name is George, he then introduces you to a brunette with (even you have to admit) the most amazing hair, Ross.
And the last person he introduces you to is clearly the dad of the group because he's got everyone's passports in hand.
"And finally, this is Adam but everyone calls him Hann, its his last name"
Once everyones introduced they don't get to stay and chat for long because their cab arrives.
You have a feeling you'll be seeing them again, which your glad about because they all seem lovely.
Once they leave its just you and Matty again.
"Shall we?" He says with a mischievous smile and holding his hand out for you to take.
Of course you take his hand and the familiar rush of butterfly's forms in your stomach again.
Yes, you get it's juvenile but you think your really starting to like Matty and you don't know if it's purely platonic?
Once you take his hand, you end up leading the way because he has no clue where you've parked.
After walking and giggling through the long expanses of the airport you finally get to your car.
"Hey, is it okay if we stop off at my flat before coffee?"
"Cause I think I left my oven on or something, like I'm not sure but you know when you've got a gut feeling?" You admit.
He smirks and nods.
Matty gets in the passenger side and you, get in the drivers.
When you turn the car on, the radio turns on too.
Although it's an unfamiliar song you find yourself bobbing your head along to it casually.
On the other hand Mattys eyes are wide and he's trying to conceal his horror.
He tries his best, it's all going okay untill the song ends and the radio presenter says.
"That was 'Oh caroline' by The 1975"
"We'll be having Matty Healy and George Daniel on the show next week to discuss the production of their 5th album 'Being funny in a foreign language'!"
Of course it was at that moment where your ears pricked up, and at the red light you turned to face Matty with a confused look.
"Shit" he mumbles under his breath
"I- is that you?" You ask.
He sighs and says
"..Yeah, does that change anything?"
You think for a moment and he waits in anticipation.
"Nah, don't think so" You say breathily
Matty chuckles in relief.
"Do you even know who I am?" He says even though he hates how pretentious that sounds he's actually curious.
You tap your fingers on the steering wheel, in thought.
"Hmm, i dont think so, I've heard of the band before though, probably from one of my mates?"
This makes Matty laugh because of the nonchalant vibe and how you truly have no clue and he enjoys that because you know him as Matty and not as 'Matty Healy the controversial frontman' or any of that tabloid crap.

For the rest of the journey back to yours, the conversation goes back to what it was before you found out his real job.
Mainly because you like Matty for Matty not for some character he plays on stage.

Eventually you get back to your flat and get out the car expecting Matty to stay but no he gets out too.
After the usual 'nice place' chat that everyone has you make your way inside.
Once you've made it to your flat with Matty you go to check all the appliances that could be on.
While Matty has a look around, he immediately looks through your dvd collection.
"Oh my god!"
"You've got true romance!!"
He shouts through to you in excitement
You chuckle
"Yeah fucking great film" you reply as you walk through to him.
"I know right, fucking masterpiece"
You grin and then a bright idea pops into your head.
"Hey, we could watch it instead of coffee?"
Mattys eyes light up.
"Oh my god yes!" he says as he excitedly makes himself at home and gets the cd sorted.
"Okay, I'll get snacks, two secs" you tell him.

While your raking about in a cupboard with your hands full of snacks, the door goes.
"Hey, can you get that?" You shout through.
"Yeah course!" He shouts back.

Mattys pov

He opens the door and is met with a pissed looking man.
"Where's El?" The man asks demandingly
"She's busy" Matty replies taken a back
"Who the fuck are you" the man asks accusingly.
Before Matty can reply Elodie comes to the door and stops in her tracks when she sees who it is.
"Elodie?" Matty questions.
But she's in to much shock and ignores him.
"Harris, you've got some nerve showing up here" she says through shaky breath.
Mattys eyes widen in realisation and shock.
"I'm getting my shit back" Harris says glaring at Elodie.
Angry tears well in her eyes, mattys heart breaks for her but he's helpless in this situation.
"Fucking good" she says as she opens a cupboard and grabs two binbags and a little velvet box, which can only be the engagement ring.
She chucks them next to Harris, almost hitting him in the process.
"You're such a bitch you know what, I can't believe I was going to marry you" Harris spits with venom.
"Fuck you" is all she can spit back before she slams the door in his face.
She stands against the door and crumbles to the ground In tears.
Matty sits next to her and just holds her, eventually he picks her up taking her to the sofa where the two of them sit for hours, she cries for most of them but he knows she needs this.
Later into the night while he's holding her drawing soothing circles into her arm he feels her breath slow down and soon he realises she's fallen asleep.
Even with tear covered cheeks she's still gorgeous.
After a while of silence Matty falls asleep too, neither of them know why but being together is very comforting.
