Chapter Text
The next few days were normal. Dong wouldn’t go out into the forest ever since her little encounter, mainly because she was afraid, she’d fall down the cliff again. But she did attend her classes, deciding to just keep to herself and get great grades so she could just be done after a few years and go home.
She didn’t see that same wolf ever again, wondering just who the wolf was. At least until she saw someone walk into the cafeteria with crutches. Another stood next to her, holding two trays while the girl on crutches could maneuver next to her.
“I still can’t believe you got caught in a human bear trap…” The woman sighed.
“Look, I was chasing a deer... I was starving…” The dark-haired woman frowned.
“Whose fault is it that you’re picky about this food!?” The other growled.
“Not my fault they use store bought meat…” She scrunched up her nose, looking around at the students before her gaze met Dong’s. “I’ll be right back…”
Dong gulped, immediately looking down at the table and quietly scooting closer to Seulgi while Wendy continued her story about how she met this other fae who was nothing like her.
“Excuse me…”
All three of them looked up, seeing the woman standing at their table. She was gorgeous and everything in between. Dong looked up, blushing slightly when she saw the crutches.
“I… I want to better thank you for the other night…” The woman whispered, staring right down at Dong.
“It was nothing…” Dong mumbled.
“I would be on some human’s mantle if it wasn’t for you…” The woman frowned. “So, I want to thank you from the bottom of my soul,” She whispered.
“You saved a wolf?!” Seulgi gasped.
“You’re Minji… Right?” Wendy asked quietly, watching the woman nod.
“Anyway… Thank you again… And if you ever need anything… I am in your debt,” Minji whispered before making her way over to join her friend again.
Seulgi and Wendy watched her leave before diving into so many questions that Dong didn’t want to answer. She was beginning to regret befriending them now.
“How did you know her name?” Dong asked, looking at the fae.
“Minji is a big deal… Everyone knows of the reigning northern pack… Even vampires right?” She asked, watching Dong slowly nod her head. “So Minji comes from that pack. She runs circles in the high up alpha area… Her dad is king,” She whispered.
“So… she’s a princess?” Dong chuckled.
“Kind of. Hierarchy is a bit weird for wolves…” Seulgi shrugged. “They fight for their position as King and Queen. And up there? Gosh…” She whispered. “It’s usually a blood bath…” She frowned.
“They… Fight?” Dong whispered, looking back at the table full of wolves.
“Yeah… They’ve had a few fights here to establish dominance…. Minji always comes out on top… I wouldn’t be surprised if someone tried to fight her now that she’s wounded….” Wendy whispered.
Dong looked over, watching them all chat civilly for a moment before they all started to get rowdier, watching as Minji just laughed with them, getting just as rowdy without standing. It was a little concerning, but at least she was having fun.
The vampire went through her classes without another hitch, a few others beginning to talk to her ever since word got around that Minji approached her. The fact that a top alpha wolf approached the only vampire in the school made the rest of the student body feel a little more at ease with that.
At least until word got out that another group of late arriving students would join them… And that another vampire would be joining their numbers. Which brought Dong right back to square one.
She let out a sigh as she stayed seated on her bed, her roommate was forced out, being told that vampires should probably stick together and not worry about her placement. It bothered Dong that they didn’t even ask if she wanted this new vampire in her already once shared dorm room. In fact, she loved Seulgi. Seulgi was fun, lovable and all around great. How was she supposed to socialize with other creatures and learn anything if they forced the two together?
Dong knew it was because the administration staff were afraid of the vampires. That was why she was paired with Seulgi in the first place. Why she was given a dorm room so far from the admin office… Everything about it wasn’t fair to her.
When her roommate did show up… She wasn’t sure what to expect. The woman was younger by a few decades and had silver hair… Dong could smell the recent dye job, forcing her to turn away from the new arrival. The staff didn’t even stay long enough to properly introduce them either… Just dropped her off and ran…
“You must be my roommate…” The silver-haired woman smiled.
“Yes, I would like to thank you for forcing them to throw out my old roommate…” Dong glared.
“Apologies… I… Didn’t know they would force your prior roommate out…” She frowned, forcing her gaze lower. Dong noticed her eyes were a bright red, causing her to worry. If she was like this… Then that meant she was trouble… “My name is Yubin,” She introduced herself, bowing deeply toward the older vampire.
“Han Dong,” Dong muttered curtly. Her father always told her to introduce her last name first. Show dominance toward other vampires who tried to invade territory. And right now… This Yubin was invading hers.
“Han coven… You’re the princess,” Yubin smiled, watching Dong nod her head. “Well, it’s a pleasure to meet a royal… I apologize for…” She waved her hand toward her eyes, frowning. “They’ll level out in a few days,” She sighed.
“Why haven’t you fed?” Dong asked quietly.
The older vampire watched as the younger shifted from one foot onto the next, letting out a sigh.
“I… I know not many vampires go to this institution… And they aren’t fair either… So rather them make me uncomfortable… I figured I would make them fear me first… So I starved in order to look as menacing as possible…” She admitted quietly. “I’m here to learn… Not be ridiculed,” She whispered.
Dong nodded her head, understanding where she was coming from. She wondered if she had been too inviting at first, but at least now she understood why this vampire showed up late looking the way she did.
“The cafeteria has… Some options for us…” Dong sighed. “Animal and donations…” She frowned.
“I’m going to guess… The animal is the better one…” Yubin chuckled.
“Centaur blood just isn’t that great… And neither is witches…” Dong smiled.
“But can we agree… Wolf blood is by far the worst tasting…” Yubin laughed.
“Agreed,” Dong laughed with her, enjoying the conversation. A lighthearted conversation about food was what they needed. Just enough to get the ball rolling for them to start their path to being friends.
Dong brought her around, showing her the campus when the sun was set, explaining that the admin staff were working on putting a magic barrier around the school to prevent the sunrays from really breaking in and killing them.
“They are… Aware we can walk in the sun right?” Yubin whispered.
“This gets me out of so many classes though,” Dong chuckled.
“Oh no… The sunlight… it burns me…” Yubin pretended to be hurt, earning a laugh from the older woman next to her.
The two were walking around the campus, both having the best conversations while ignoring their duties as students. But no one would ever dare to stop them. So they continued, at least until Dong caught sight of the one person that could make her stumble over her words.
“Why did you suddenly stop?” Yubin asked, looking back at her newfound friend.
“I just… Have a crush on… Her…” Dong did her best to not point but still point Minji out to Yubin. It made her a little weird looking. “The one with the crutches…” She explained quietly.
“Oh… So she makes you stupid?” Yubin smiled.
“Kind of… I saved her from a bear trap and she told me she’s forever in my debt…” Dong sighed, looking over to see that Yubin wasn’t at all paying attention to her. In fact, she was staring at Minji’s short-haired friend. “Are you…”
“Her friend is pretty… Let’s go talk to them!” She whispered.
“Are you mad?!” Dong frowned while grabbing Yubin’s arm, stopping her from moving.
“How are you supposed to act on your crush if you don’t do anything about it!?” Yubin hissed, watching Dong sulk a bit.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to act on it… She really couldn’t. She did want to… Oh, she really wanted to.
So, she let Yubin drag her over.
“Oh, hey you!” Minji smiled the second she saw Dong approach them. “I know you!” She chuckled.
“Yeah… Me…. The life debt…” Dong blushed while nodding her head.
“I never got your name…” The wolf smiled.
“Her name is Han Dong and I’m Yubin. Pleasure to meet you,” The younger vampire smiled while stepping in front of the short-haired woman.
“Hi…” She whispered.
Dong rolled her eyes, looking back at Minji. She watched as the wolf chuckled before meeting her gaze again.
“So… Can I call you Dongie or… Dongdong?” Minji smiled.
“Y-Yeah!” Dong nodded, feeling her cheeks warm. Gosh, if she could blush… She would be.
“I was actually wondering… Since… Since I’m in your debt and all… If… If I could take you out to dinner sometime?” Minji smiled, standing herself up with the help of her crutches.
Dong frowned, “Oh well… Um… I kinda fed yesterday…” She whispered.
“Fed?” Minji frowned. “Oh… I… I’m so stupid,” She muttered before hitting her head. “I forgot… You… You don’t eat food…” She sighed. “Stupid dog brain…” She muttered.
“Hey…” Dong frowned while placing a hand on Minji’s cheek to stop her from hitting her forehead more. She could feel how warm Minji’s skin was, causing her to just stare right at her… It felt almost as if the world had almost stopped moving. That the universe was just them… That no one else mattered. “You’re not stupid…” She whispered. “And… I’m available for literally any kind of date…” She smiled. “As long as it involves you…” She whispered.
Dong watched as Minji’s cheeks turned a shade of pink and she could hear something thumping. Which made her look down and see a tail already formed and wagging very much. She couldn’t help but laugh, looking back up at Minji.
“Someone likes that idea?” Dong smiled as she glanced down to look at the tail now wagging even faster.
“You have no idea,” Minji smiled.
“It’s a date then. This weekend?” She asked, watching Minji tilt her head slightly. “For anything other than food?” She smiled.
“It’s a date… I’ll pick you up at sunset,” Minji smiled. “Just meet in the courtyard.”
