Chapter Text
Sam and I were on our way to the Pep Rally. I had no idea what that was
“I think it's to lift school spirit? I dunno. I'm excited for it though!” Sam said.
“But will it be fun?”
“I mean.. probably.” Sam shrugged
“Well.” I started, “This will be the first time I experience this, so why not?”
“Yes! I like your spirit!”
We were supposed to wear colors that correspond to our grades. Red for freshmen, yellow for sophomores, black for juniors and white for seniors.
“Do you think this is red enough?” I asked Sam, gesturing to my apparel
“Hm-yeah. It looks red enough.” She replied.
“Yeah, I don't have much red in my closet, which is a thing I need to work on, and the only red vest I had was in the laundry basket, so I had to settle for a reddish-brown.”
“But,” I continued, “brown is really just a darker orange, and orange has red in it. Ergo, I am technically wearing red.”
“Sure, that works.” Sam, of course, was wearing red. She had every color of the rainbow in her closet. She wore a red collar shirt, brown pants, and white platform sneakers, adorned with her usual pins, and stitches, and random paint splotches that made her look like an elementary school kid's art project.
Once we got to the gym, and the event began, the place erupted with shouts. The freshmen were the worst. It didn't help that a person dressed as our mascot was encouraging everyone to shout louder.
There were games, and cheerleader routines. Sam even participated in tug ‘o war, at least she was enjoying herself.
As the crowd stood again, cheering for someone, I was hunched over, covering my ears. My head hurt, and I wanted to go home.
The crowd's screams turned to gasps, and then screams of… Terror? Why was everyone scared?
Then I felt something hit me. I looked to my feet and saw a jolly rancher. I looked up and saw a man in a trench coat, with a brown scarf covering half of his face chucking candies at the crowd. One hit me in my eye, why was he throwing them so hard? Is he flying? No, it’s more levitating than flying. WHY IS THERE A MAN LEVITATING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GYM?!
“THIS ONE CONTAINS SOY. ” He shouted. Was he shouting the possible allergens?
I looked at Sam, who was shielding her head from the rapid fire
The man left eventually, and the seats were full of candy. No one was spared from the strafe.
I was bruised a little, but not so badly. I picked as many candies as I could, and left with Sam after the bell rang.
“What the fuck was that?” Sam started
“I dunno.” I replied
“Why was he floating in the air?”
“I dunno, theatrics?”
Sam shook her head, and said goodbye to me, and I went to Alfredough's.
