Chapter Text
This was ridiculous. All those years he had been looking for them and now they suddenly appear as transfer students. This was some stupid joke. His mouth trembled and he was enamored by that teal eyes that lost all life in them. Eren looked terrible. His eyes weren’t sparkling like they used to and it seemed like the boy lost all happiness and will to life.
Levi had to get himself together, he couldn’t get distracted at school. He coughed and started to take attendance.
“Mikasa Ackermann”
“Present.” She replied and sounded like back then.
“Armin Arlert”
“Here.” He sounded a little nervous and exited at once. At least he and Mikasa seem normal. He called the other names until he made a short break before calling for Eren.
“Eren Jaeger.” He lagged the second name. He wasn’t used to call him by his last name anymore. Only at certain occasions would he say it.
“Yes.” Eren sounded cold and distant, emotionless even. The rest of the roll call contained all the familiar names to Levi. He had this class the year prior, so he knew everyone already. He wondered if Jean and the others would regain their memories now that Eren appeared. But also, if those three had any memories. He would have to find that out.
But before that he had to get some information about these three. Asking them why they transferred shouldn’t be considered weird, even for him.
“So… I only leant just now in the teachers’ lounge that we have three transfer students…..” Levi tries to sound casual. “What brings you here and where do you come from?”
The three exchanged looks, and Armin was the one the reply. Not the voice Levi hoped to hear, but good enough.
“We lived in Germany our whole life because of our parent’s work. Now we live here.” Now this explained everything as to why Levi just couldn’t find Eren and his friends. He searched beyond the city walls, but obviously he wouldn’t think of another continent.
Nevertheless, Levi was surprised that Armin didn’t have any accent while talking. Growing up in another country it was rare for someone to speak like this.
Hearing Germany made Levi smirk a little. He has been there many times and knows a fair amount of the language, which is why he decided to ask the next question in German, leaving everyone in the classroom speechless/ surprised.
“And how did you learn to speak Japanese that well?”
“We were on a Japanese school, so we learned both.” Armin replied in German as well, smiling at the pleasant surprise.
“If you need anything, just let me know, okay?” Levi sounded softer than he wanted, but it felt like those few words in German were meant just for Eren. At least Eren would be one of the very few to understand him.
“Mr. Ackermann! I didn’t know you could also speak German!” Sasha screamed in surprise.
“Shut up, I know a lot more than what you brats think.” Levi quickly stopped the turmoil that was about to arise and started the lesson.
The class ended without any more distractions. Eren wasn’t paying much attention anyways and Levi looked at the other students instead. After he dismissed the class, he saw that some students were going to the transfer students. It seemed like they will be integrated well.
Luckily, he wouldn’t have to see Eren and his class tomorrow. And then would be the week end. So at least he would have some time to rest and clear his thoughts. That evening he called Hange and told her about his new students.
On Friday he was in the 2nd year’s class where the titan shifters were in. How he loved to ruin their Friday evening with math. Before dismissing the class he requested 3 people to remain after class. While everyone packed their things and went home, only Reiner, Bertold and Annie stayed behind. They sat on their respective desks in silence. Just staring at Levi.
They knew that he wouldn’t call them out for just nothing, so they waited until he finally spoke up. Levi sighted heavily.
“You guys are clever enough to know that I don’t actually want to discuss any homework with you. You can leave in a second. I just want to let you know that Eren, Armin and Mikasa transferred into this school. They are one year underneath you and in the same class as Sasha, Connie and Jean. However, they don’t seem to have memories from back then. Just wanted to let you know about this… It’s up to you to decide if you want to come to the junior’s building to interact with them.” Levi grabbed his books and left the classroom.
Levi couldn’t wait to finally take a shower and go to bed.
