Chapter Text
Maxwell woke up in a bed.
His mind was swimming. He tried to open his eyes but the light from the window felt far too bright.
He thought for a moment. Was he home?
No, he couldn’t be. He was beginning to remember the crash.
He must be in a hospital.
Maxwell’s lip turned up a little.
Thank God, he was safe. That crash had been awful.
He grimaced when his head began to throb.
Soon the door creaked open. Maxwell opened his eyes expecting a nurse or physician.
But he was shocked at what he saw.
He was not in a hospital, but in a bedroom; and the man he saw did not look like a Doctor.
“Oh you’re awake, good.” The man seemed overly excited for some reason. “Heh he—I was starting to get worried.”
Maxwell almost began to speak, but he felt blind sighted.
“And ohh—it's just wonderful I found you!”
Maxwell just stared for a moment.
This man, something… was wrong. Maxwell couldn’t name it, but there was simply something off about him.
“You’re Maxwell the magician, aren’t you?”
“Well—ugh.” Maxwell grunted in pain as he tried to sit up. “I am but—“
“Ohh, I knew it! It really is you!”
“Yes but—listen.” Maxwell tried to get his words out before the man began gushing again. “Are the authorities on their way? I’m in a great deal of pain…”
“Oh yes, of course, let me get you something for that!”
“Wait—!” Maxwell tried but Wilson was already out of the room.
Maxwell could only sit anxiously and wait for him to return.
Wislon came back after a beat, holding some pills
“I need a doctor—“ Maxwell tried to plead.
“I am a doctor!” Wilson cut him off excitedly. “I have a doctorate in science!”
“That’s not—that’s great. But I need a medical doctor…” Maxwell tried to argue. “I need a physician.”
“Oh don’t be silly…” Wilson leaned uncomfortably close into Maxwell’s space. “I can’t let you go.”
“What?”
“Here!” Wilson prompted and held the pills out to Maxwell. “I'll get you some water in a moment.”
“Wait, what did—“
“Are you hungry?” Wilson leaned back and clasped his hands together excitedly. “I have soup on the burner.
“Wait—!“ Maxwell tried, but he was already out the door.
Maxwell leaned back into bed. Feeling startled.
He knew something was terribly wrong.
