Chapter Text
yashiro nene was an apprentice to tsuchigomori, a highly skilled detective that was eventually going to retire soon. and yashiro was determined to fill his role once he resigned.
“yashiro, i understand that you want to be put on the phantom thief case?”
nene nodded. “correct, tsuchigomori!” this was one of the biggest cases she had ever been put on, so she was elated.
“very well then, your investigation starts tomorrow.” he handed her a file, filled with all of places the phantom had robbed and details on when they happened.
“thank you, sensei. i won’t let you down.” she turned around to go to her office, but then tsuchigomori stopped her.
“i forgot to mention, you will be working with two other people on this case.” he wasn’t looking directly at her, but she tilted her head slightly regardless.
“who may they be, if you mind me asking?” she was hoping maybe it would be one of the higher ups.
“one of them, i haven’t decided on, but mitsuba will be on this case.” mitsuba? ugh. he was intelligent, but a pain nonetheless because of him being slightly scornful.
in her opinion, it felt weird considering that they were friends before they were co-workers. “um…okay. see you later sensei!”
on the way to her office, she could have sworn hearing someone unfamiliar entering tsuchigomori’s office. right now, who cared about some mysterious partner? she was promoted!
as yashiro was walking by familiar doors, she was humming along to the happy tune of good fortune.
she wanted to look this thief in the eye after she caught him.
...……10:00 am, at the office………
yashiro was sitting at her desk and waiting from a call from mitsuba, she thinking ’god, what is he doing at this time?’
all she was doing was taking sips from her tea while tapping her fingernails against the wood.
she was disrupted from her super “important” finger tapping, by mitsuba busting the door open.
yashiro flinched, before scowling at the ignorant pink haired boy who was leaning on the doorframe.
“you scared me! I thought you were going to call me back.” she crossed her arms.
mitsuba rolled his eyes as a response to her attitude.
“whatever, we need to talk about the case.” he finally walked into the room and pulled up a chair.
“what about the phantom thief?” “since we know they strike on the seventh day of the week, and it’s saturday….”
“excuse me, i understand that today is a high risk day. but what place would be the target exactly?” she didn’t know if she intended to interrupt him, or if it was out of pure irritation of what happened prior.
“i was getting there.” he said bluntly. “the target is the plaza, the thief is going through the popular jewelry shops from uptown to downtown.”
“i understand, so we should be monitoring those areas.” yashiro picked up her newsboy hat and put it on.
“speaking of ‘monitoring places’ or whatever you just said, don’t we have someone else on this case with us?” he was right, there was someone else on this case.
“um…yeah. i was expecting them too, but tsuchigomori apparently told them to come to me asap.”
mitsuba looked confused after she said that.
“so you don’t even know, and you’re his favorite?” yashiro was going to object to that, but it wouldn’t change mitsuba’s mind no matter what she said about it.
“yes, so it would be best to wait for them to show up. right mitsuba?” yashiro clarified, meanwhile mitsuba clearly was annoyed as well as he didn’t respond for a few minutes.
“rightttt, daikon-senpai.” mitsuba grinned slightly, looking somewhat proud of himself.
“you always call me that…..and i’m not a radish!” she said this while almost tightening her arms together like they would loosen if she didn’t.
“right, anyway…..where’s this damn person? at this point they’re awfully late.” mitsuba looked to the side and seemed impatient as hell.
“they should be here in a minute, so we should give them some grace….” nene gave mitsuba a warm smile, like she was trying to brighten up his mood.
she took another sip from her tea, before she heard a knocking sound. ‘where is that coming from?’ she was asking herself, the door was definitely left open.
mitsuba seemed to have turned around already, but yashiro had to slightly lean over in her seat to see who was in the door, who was seemingly knocking on the doorframe.
the first thing she noticed was the uniform, ‘a cop?’ no, more specific. ‘an apprentice cop?’ she only saw them when she had solved a crime, so what was a apprentice cop doing here?
then her eyes seemed to have finally grasped his appearance, blue eyes, and wild-ish hair. he looked slightly familiar, but she had never seen him before….? so what was this-
her thoughts were interrupted by mitsuba. “so, won’t you introduce yourself?” mitsuba tilted his head slightly to the side. “my name is minamoto kou, the second son in a honorable family of police officers!” ‘minamoto’….wait a minute…
her thoughts halted, where had she heard that name before?
then it dawned on her, he’s related to teru minamoto. the well renowned police officer.
